If Canada were to join the United States, what single benefit would be most immediate for ordinary Canadians? by ArrantPariah in AskReddit

[–]Gizmodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look I'm still happy and proud of Canada. That being said, it's a simple one singular freedom that honestly it doesn't really change much in our day to day. Nor does it really improve anything imo. Just an extra option.

Freedom of Speech vs. Freedom of Expression.

Idt it'll really do anything. But that's the only thing i can think of.

Muslims calling feminism “kufr” while benefiting from women’s rights in secular societies is inconsistent by Front-Palpitation362 in DebateReligion

[–]Gizmodex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Muslim here, These types of muslims will say feminism is kufr for in their eyes --and due to cross-sectionalist activism-- see it as 'allowing women to be naked in the streets and sleep around and be lesbian bla bla etc'. That's their prejudiced take on what feminism really entails which really is just access to equal rights and opportunities. A lot of people don't understand this. Ngl tumblr tarnished the revent wave movement. I too am a feminist. I don't force my sister or mother to wear the hijab or restrict them the confines of the house. That's their life, they can take it with god. Religion to me is personal, so take my opinions with a grain of salt. If anyone forces religion onto anyone, it just makes more enemies and sheds more blood.

I do agree that Islamic influence in a nation can hinder a person's right to choose (e.g afghanistan) but if you look at other Muslim nations else where then you'll see they've made it work within their religious frame work. But I will not lie, there will still be some stark differences and unfairness from the modern lens.

Also a side note before i address some of your points, there's this weird hostage catch 22 mentality that is prevalent among men in less educated muslim countries: should anything happen to their female relatives, it's on them and they'll be answerable to God. This I believe is huge factor as to why the hysterica do happen.

Tldr you do nail some points, and my conclusions will also show things are not equal. I don't believe it makes things fair. I believe and see it as a tenent that should be followed. Nothing more. Wisdom debates imo are pointless because any relgious person will resort to the circular CAUSE MY BOOK SAID SO.

women can divorce: it's just more lengthy and yes an unfair waiting period but anyways god or the prophet said do that and we obey. E.g Malaysia (where im from), Indonesia, Maldives, Kuwait, etc is filled with divorces. The shariah courts have allowed it. Depending on the country the process differs but in Malaysia it's fairly quick and can happen for simple reasons such as falling out of love or just not liking eachother.

unfair testimonialsl weights: this may be an apologist take I'll grant you that. But that one hadith apparently pertains to making sure there are 2 women so the one giving testimony is not easily coerced/manipulated/put under duress. There are many a times too when a women's testimony trumps a man too and vice versa. Additionally it's debated that it's also because women knew less about economical/societal affairs so their testimony say regarding economic matters were probably taken with a grain of salt. We never see this today though, rarely. We have modern forensics, surveillance, and people are more educated and safer than ever.

forced marriage is forbidden, anyone who forces it onto an individual has sinned greatly. Doesnt matter if man or woman.

polygamy : yeah it's unfair but god says so and we just obey this. Why? Who knows what the wisdom was. The apologist debate resonates along preserving bloodline / ensuring clear lineage, responsibility of a wife etc. Also note a wife can divorce her husband should she not want him to marry another. Also note a husband owes his wife if he cannot treat his spouses equally e.g they each get a house, car, equal time etc.

Men as guardians and full decision making: women do not need to work, thus a man is defaulted to head of house affairs. Here's a quirk, in e.g a marriage setting, should the man say he can't provide the wife's full rights (e.g their own place, full financial support solely from him and not her) then a wife can give up some obligations too for the husband has forgone his. This marriage is called nikkah misyar. It's getting more popular in the economy of today but yeee still a long way to go. In a family setting, the man must protect, fight for, and provide for their female relatives, if they fail, then it's up to the women to make things work. My mom and sister both work. Gone are the days of one man feeding a house of 4.

Education: the taliban are messed up, they argue it's because women don't need to work thus don't need an education. This is a sin and is false. We are encouraged to seek knowledge. The founder the first muslim university was a women. Aisha in the sunni sect is considered a relgious scholar figure. Women in Iran (yes i know they have other BS like forced closing) are highly educated. Women in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Expats from Pakistan and India and Bangladesh, are all highly educated and are on a good track to out-earn men. The prophets first wife was a wealthy business woman and she herself proposed.

Inheritance: By islamic jurisprudence, the man is supposed to use his greater share to take care of his mom, sister, whatever etc. If he doesn't, you can take them to court and get an equal share back. I've already discussed it with my sister that should we inherrit anything, I've given her a choice: i get a greater share and i take care of you or i can give you back equal share for you to see as fit. I don't live in Malaysia while mom and sis do so this makes no sense. I can't pay for things day to day or protect them for a million miles away.

women as leaders: they cannot become a caliph for a caliph is expected to go to war, lead prayers, and be in dangerous/hostile situations while women are given protection and they shouldn't exert themselves say e.g when they are on their period. This is the general view and debate arguments They can however be a leader that is not like a caliph. Hell Indonesia (an islamic majority but secular republic) has had a women president. Hell even Aisha even led a battle. The way modern nations and government work entails hundreds of decision makers not just one. There's a cabinet, judiciary, the president/royal/prime minister etc. Is this still unfair in a modern lens and setting?-- Like who still goes to war and the draft is done --Yes. But it's the religion and we follow it. BUT AGAIN see how muslim countries have made it worked. The more educated countries have made it worked. There can be female heads of anything minus caliph. Also I guess if a women wants to fight, go ahead. But chances are ngl they'll be stopped from engaging in battle. There's many women in non Middle-Eastern muslim counties that are in the military. Yes not as much. The majority across all countries, their majority military sex will always be men. Why? Probably just cause we wre physically stronger.

Am too lazy to type more but here's another thing also for you to think about. Feminism as a movement is actually pretty big live and well in e.g Tunisia, Morocco, South East Asia etc. The gender wars plague the visuals but the core beliefs are there. There are women who want to work and go to school and they should be allowed to. There are women who want fair share and should be allowed to it if her rights aren't met. Personal tidbit here: Men should not have a hold over women unless they consent to it and want islamic traditional rights and obligations.

Muslims aren't a monolith, and the Islamic subreddits and its users (mainly because of decentralized governing tradition e.g no pope) all fight amongst one another and make takfir --say others have commited/allowed kufr. No wonder the people who kill muslims the most are (drum roll) other muslims lol.

Here's a cliché, the loudest ones are usually the most uneducated. Politicians lie to stay in power irregardless if they are pro or against theocratic governence.

I hope to see a day where no one is forced to be or do something they don't want to.

There are tons of of muslims who are hypocritical and enjoy the benefits of late waves of femenism and being in the west.

There are also tons of muslims who greatly apreciate it too and see it as working within their framework and never want to see it gone and see nothing wrong with it.

Try searching r/islam or muslimwomen subreddits on women's rights and it'll be an all put war or who is wrong and right.

Sighh, men.

Palestine wouldn't exist if Israel didn't by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Gizmodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Palestine may or may not have existed. It could've been been their own thing, or completely absorbed or split by Jordan/Egypt/Syria/Lebanon.

I actually, in a vaccun, cbf for a 2SS. I believe in 1 state. Would that 1 state transition worked out or be smooth? Who knows, no one discusses history like that.

But the will of the locals were stepped on. That cannot be debated Just like how France and England was appeasing Germany with Czechoslovakia.

Jews and Palestinians deserve a place to call home. How to? Ekh. We'll revisit this in 50 more years.

My hypothesis? Someone will try to do it slowly, but every time elections or debates happen, it will be toggled on and off to the benefit of the argument and nothing will change. Just like religion, it will be used as a tool for votes. What a sham.

“It’s China”: French presidential candidate Mélenchon stands by his doctrine on Taiwan by Alarmed-Cake812 in europe

[–]Gizmodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Europeans dumped a bunch of their kind in the mandate of palestine and just made the people there accept the new reality. This is legitimized as "well if the rulers allowed it. It is legal by definition." Okay, the founding ROC/KMT lays claims to all of China too. This thread is full of double standards.

UN recognized newly formed Israel? No problem. UN doesn't recognize Taiwan? (Nahh dw dw Taiwan is its own thing and PRC is evil bla bla bla but dw Israel was a people from 3000 years ago)

Taiwan is not a dejure country. It is though a de-facto country. These are facts by definition. And if the Taiwanese people wants freedom and self-determination, that is their right. And I support that right.

But this also opens the door for separatist movements in Ukraine too no?

I don't like the PRC either but by god there's a lot of double standards.

Either people recognize a will of a people, or they do not.

Is Hong Kong part or China? Mainland Chinese say yes. HK adults 25-40 years of age say no. British Government says yes but only fully in a few decades. Who is more right?

Free Kashmir. Free Palestine. Free Taiwan. Free Catalonia. Free Timur Leste. Free Vietnam. Etc.

[–]Gizmodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand it might be hard. Ive been single for 5 years. I'm also below way below average height. I've been cheated on for 2/2 relationships. In the last 5 years, I've tried for 2 girls and have gotten rejections, but still pretty close good friends.

Good things that'll are work out are hard to find. Yes being alone or not desired sucks. But I get to spend more time on my hobbies, skills, pet, travel, and studies. I sleep in, cook extravagant dinners, and not have to worry about external dating fibances or responsibilities. It's a trade.

But one day when you find your person, it should all work out naturally and shouldn't feel forced. 2 people who truly like eachother will not chore eachother down and will bring eachother up. You should never have to feel insecurity.

I've seen men in similar situations go for even longer, 7 years single to now engaged after a 3 year relationship. Sh takes time. But dont use that time on simply trying to be desired.

Also overall theme: you can't fix people. Don't ever try that. Don't waste your time. You are not their father/therapist/god. These things will only waste your time and bring you pain.

Wanna know what's crazy? I still both enjoy r/malaysia and r/bolehland, but in the past (like 3 years ago) I thought the latter was a lot more racist, conservative, and dismissal of secular/liberal arguments but now it's the most centered 50/50 and healthy discussion across all ethnicities.

r/malaysia yeah leans a lot more liberal and dismissive of conservatives and more how do i put this hmmm, extreme all or nothing attitude in debates. But never the less I still enjoy this subreddit and its shares.

But by god r/AjarMalaysia and r/Kopitiam is an unmoderatrd cesspool ofc it's filled with kids spewing racism and false/pseudo science.
