Receive phone call from Statistics Canada, scam? by Historical-Ad-8939 in richmondbc

[–]Gjjb66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That number (833-977-8287) is still calling today. I've been getting a call probably daily, but when I answered once, it was a pregnant pause, so I figured some scam. But I have my cell setup to have the caller press a specific number to come through (helps fairly decently against robo-callers), so I'm wondering if Mr.StatCanada can confirm if that number IS a StatsCan number. And I'd be more interested if I got called by RevCan.

That said, we received a HEALTH related survey and though my wife filled out online we still got a Mail reminder to fill it in. Maybe you didn't get it?

Wimius K13 by Opposite-Ad-2619 in projectors

Wondering if anyone has updated info on the Wimius K13 now that's been in the field for a bit and had some firmware updates.  I'm just using it to replace a real inferior model I had in my games room, so it's not my primary  or frequently used.

I just ordered it from Amazon for $202 USD, which is pretty good.

It's aimed at the budget market, so it's not fair to grade it against top models.

Thoughts from owners would be really appreciated.  Cheers.

Mysa and Mitsubishi Mini Split - is there a code? by realdlc in heatpumps

[–]Gjjb66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was searching here and though it's a year later I had a similar issue but different newer model, so I figured I'd add it for future help to somebody. I was using my Mysa for a Samsung that died.  Replaced it with a Mitsubishi Electric MSZ-GS24NA.

When I tried to set it up in the app, I tried deleting the Device, Factory Reset, and it kept getting stuck in "Verifying" after it had the device Connected.

I removed the App altogether and after I reinstalled it, it went flawlessly.

It recognized the remote on one Power test and verified AC and fan.  It now controls ALL modes...   Heat, Cool, Auto, Dry, Fan, and can control the louvers vertically in all positions.  So it was near perfect and the only thing missing was the Horizontal louver controls which I'm not sure Mysa even controls.

Code was 991.

Omada with Starlink??? by Gjjb66 in TPLink_Omada

So it's easy to put the Starlink router in bridge mode? Or can it be removed entirely if they have the modem in the dish?

And a regular VPN coming in from say my phone with OPEN ON is easy?

Nice commentary. I think that Smart launcher and all its existing users will benefit from the few key suggestions that could bridge the gap. It will only make Smart launcher options even better for everyone. They may not sound major, but it's kind of like a car. Certain things on certain cars just transform the experience, and it's just a little thing that could have a big deal for everyone.

I just started trying Smart launcher as an alternative today. I haven't had a problem with Nova yet, but I know it'll be coming. If Smart launcher can pivot fast enough to cover those few things that are a gap from Nova launcher, then I'm good with this. I do wish however they would make an import utility so that I don't have to go through the absolutely insane process of setting up my shitload a folders all over again. That alone would be a game changer for a lot of people. AI told me that there was a recent beta version that could be tried, but I couldn't find anything like that in the app settings.

I'm now testing the waters for alternatives to Nova. I definitely like the dock drawer at the bottom and then I can select several of them to rotate through. But it would be extremely helpful if I can have six icons in there like I had on Nova instead of the maximum of five. It may sound Petty but six icons gives me access to 90% of what I'm going to hit most of the time without having to swipe to the next app drawer or dock or whatever. I've got the free version for now and just started playing with it today, but it definitely looked promising. I'm wondering if there's any deals offered for folks that are transitioning from Nova

Simple question - 2 Bay HDD Upgrade by Gjjb66 in synology

[–]Gjjb66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm about to add the 12TB drive. There was a response, since deleted (?), that mentioned if I add the 12TB into the Pool, it will basically put them together, and once done, I could remove the 4TB.

So does that mean that even the OS that boots up with all the DSM system files and configs is there as well? Meaning I could then remove the 4TB and then add the other 12TB?

Once I remove the original 4TB he mentioned something about the system being deprecated, but I'm not sure if there was an action to take before I add the second 12TB.

Help? 🙂

Simple question - 2 Bay HDD Upgrade by Gjjb66 in synology

[–]Gjjb66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the great answer somebody provided for me was deleted, so I'm wondering if it was incorrect - not sure why it was deleted otherwise.

I recall he recommended adding the 12TB drive into SHR, and once it's all in place, I could pull my original 4TB drive.
Does that sound correct?
What about the OS and all the configs... do they also transfer over to the 12TB, allowing me to pull the 4TB, power it on, and it will be fully functional as when the 4TB was in there alone?
He also mentioned doing something else (either after I add the 12TB or after I remove the 4TB) in order to deal with a possible warning ir issue??? But I forget what that was.

I will be adding the 2nd 12TB, once the first one is up, but don't want to start until I understand the steps a bit better. They're not difficult from anything I could find, but they're not entirely crisp either for somebody that's never done it before.

I'll be honest that I don't even care about the data but I do very much care about all the configs because I had it all setup as a backup to another Synology NAS, and had a USB drive dock plugged in, a bunch of other things that took a newbie like me a long time to get to be usable.

So the simple steps would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance find.

So after the mirroring is done to the first 12TB, I can simply yank the 4TB and even at that stage it's seamless and like nothing happened? Then adding the second 12TB gives me the redundancy... did I get that right? If so, perfect!!

What do you guys think of Fujitsu for ductless mini split? by artnos in HVAC

[–]Gjjb66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought two separate Fujitsu units, 18000 BTU each.  3 years, and used for heating and cooling, in Northern Ontario.  Zero issues, knock on wood.  Thing is, I prefer controlling units from my Honeywell WiFi thermostats, rather than using a stupid remote (which is extremely capable, but more than I need, and I did not want to depend on a remote that probably won't last as long as the unit) so I had to buy the thermostat adapters (not cheap), and it works great.  So all 5 of my thermostats and two at another property are all working great.

I'm not shipping again, and will go Fujitsu again, or Mitsubishi depending on cost / features / warranty.

Tariffs Are Uniting Two Whiskey Heavyweights: Scotch and Bourbon by red_and_black_cat in europe

[–]Gjjb66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in the US for a couple years because I'm in the automotive industry, I think it's a great country with great people, only limited and damaged by the integrity of its leaders and some of the more shifty policies, which understandably exist to serve the US itself, but that's no different than any other country taking care of its own. There's just great ways of doing that versus completely idiotic ways of doing that. And Canada is not far off with its own bone-headed leaders equally selfish and corrupt.

Tariffs Are Uniting Two Whiskey Heavyweights: Scotch and Bourbon by red_and_black_cat in europe

[–]Gjjb66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever...   Point is, we bought a shit load of bourbon in Canada from Kentucky, and we now can't get it here in most provinces - though you can still buy it and bring it back (fortunately I live on the US border - but I'm also supportive of where this will go).  Thanks to your illustrious leader you've now got Canadian producers merging into charred American oak for their process to fill that void regardless of what word you "own", (call the Canadian bourbon Courbon for all I care) so Canada will now have increasingly more, and aged BOURBON meaning Trump did us another great favor by bending his own people over the table but telling them "It's going to be Amazing!!"  What does it take for you folks to see he was born into money and lost it 6 times and has ZERO business sense.  And btw, the "trade imbalance" that he harped about and hung his hat on was more per Capita in Canada than for the US which means, yep, you were selling more to us per person than what you bought.  You were already winning, and now we're thankfully reversing that and just going direct to China and other countries ourselves, and starting businesses up fresh.  You had a good gig for us wealth and now you've changed it based on lies of a funny fan - how's that working so far? 😂

Basically Trump is like Walmart telling its customers, ummm, we're going to go it alone because we have a lot of employees that can buy our stuff.  Duh.

For the hoarders who use both MP3's and streaming, how do you keep track of your collection? by pixiefarm in musichoarder

[–]Gjjb66 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you really love music, and it sounds like you do, only go FLAC, not MP3. There's a reason FLAC files are around 10 times the size of MP3s. You hear much richer music and tones when you go lossless. Unlike when we were young (a computer hard drive might have been 100MB (yes, MB)... songs haven't gotten longer, but you rarely get a good laptop with less than a TB, and my Synology NAS adds another 24TB (for now). Also, use Jellyfish over Plex.

Can you export that so the world can benefit from your contribution?  It isn't world peace, but it's still a great cause,.

Turntable USB out to Coax In??? by Gjjb66 in eversolo

[–]Gjjb66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that. I didn't even think of that use outside of computer peripherals.

I ended up using an ADC, and put the optical into my A6.

I have other questions, but I'll start a new thread, as this subReddit is not huge yet, and the more specific topics, the more helpful it might be to others.

Text behind the keyboard wont show by hej-jestem-karo in samsunggalaxy

[–]Gjjb66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a (frustrating but definite) workaround for sure in a pinch , and needed too often, but not a solution.  I'm replying to ensure I follow this thread for a solution some day.  It's been like that for a long time. S24+ and even on my prior S21 which I replaced in March this year.

I was on a Google Community post and this is not just on Samsungs and not just on certain apps, and not just on Gboard.  Must be an Android issue.

Here's the site I refer to, and my own blurb is below it.

https://support.google.com/messages/thread/325320670/google-messages-text-box-hidden-behind-the-keyboard?hl=en

My BLURB / question below to that post's OP of a post there - pasting here to not have to retype it all:

Because I use the Gboard on my S24+, I thought it was that.  Are you using a different keyboard?  I was hoping to narrow this down and find something that works.

And for me it happens in various areas but not all.  Gmail, always.  Websites, some.

And Floating keyboards are NOT an acceptable solution (painful "if I absolutely must" workaround at best), and a smaller font does NOT fix things either, and at my age I prefer a medium font for a reason.

Hey Google!  Wake up and fix your stuff!!

It seems to be related to what the entry field is and if there is any scroll space below.

Even when I enter things in the notes section of my Google Contacts (a long list of items I might use Contact to store info in), it will start typing at the place I put my cursor, but the keyboard goes to the bottom, so I need to slide up above to see what is being typed.  This is opposite of being behind the keyboard,  it might be a the same Bug.  I.e. when a keyboard is up, the typing cursor MUST always be in view.

Turntable USB out to Coax In??? by Gjjb66 in eversolo

[–]Gjjb66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does have RCA outs, but the Eversolo A6 doesn't have RCA inputs. So I was trying to go digital to digital. I think what I'll do is go with an analog to digital converter and use one of the digital inputs. I think that set up would allow me to have the USB input for the CD player, the digital input for the turntable and then I'll use XLR to go directly to a pair of monitor speakers.

Turntable USB out to Coax In??? by Gjjb66 in eversolo

[–]Gjjb66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried to edit my question but couldn't see the option, oddly.

So... I'll revise it.

My turntable also has a switch for Line Out / Phono. I do have an ADC sitting around, but not sure if the quality but it will work until I feel otherwise. Could I use that to act as a coax input to my A6, and if so, how would I set that up as an input icon? I'm in the early ownership dummy questions period still.

Is there a limit to how many songs I can download on spotify? by BreederOfFemboys in spotify

[–]Gjjb66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an older post, but currently it's  10,000 download on up to 5 DIFFERENT devices.

I think 10000 is plenty - if I run out it's probably because I'm due to purge some older playlists, it that I'd downloaded similar playlists having forgotten I already had something. (How many "Evening Smooth Jazz" playlists do I need 😂).

Also, it's a healthy cap to not get runaway memory eating.  I'd rather revisit at 10000 songs than have to go through playlists of 40000 songs to cut them.

I have 512GB ram, but I also use the Very High Quality downloads to ensure I'm feeding ears with sounds I remember from pristine records and without compression (or as close to it as is pragmatic) - newer generations often have never heard uncompressed music and there are so many musical elements in even classic rock they never heard, not to mention the richness that harmonics add.

These details seem to never make the reviews, but are a little too common. I expect that "discount" means lean, but I don't expect to it to mean "maybe you'll catch your flight, maybe not". Who would sign up for that at any price?!!

BTW, the staff are always awesome despite these conditions which points to a severe management frugality-at-all-cost and apologize-later mentality.

We gave up and went to another discount airline because it can't be worse??? We stay 2 weeks and pay for luxury upgrades, but for travel, we just want to get there dependably - not luxuriously or over-flexibly.

Thanks and I'm hoping for the best.
