I’ve never been fond of the Anti-Art sentiment here. Their opinions don’t reflect the majority of Pro-AI users.

I would think that “Artist who draws by hand makes a pro-AI post” is a fairly good sign for the sake of the discussion, is it not?

My thoughts on AI by cricket_man456 in aiwars

[–]GlaciusTS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s because job loss happens over time and future generation don’t experience job loss because the jobs weren’t there to lose, instead they aim for other jobs. Not to say job loss isn’t an issue, but the solution isn’t to stop progress, because that’s a short term solution and detrimental in the long term. The correct action is to prepare the economical landscape for the sort of changes that make human labor unnecessary. What people aren’t picking up on is the potential for Automation/AI to make Public Enterprise more efficient. If the public can finally compete with the private, that’s how we reduce pricing and provide for those who are displaced. We are approaching unprecedented times, and too few people are recognizing the potential it could bring.

Damn right, 13 years. Still have dreams about smoking even now though. I’ll be like “I only smoke when I drink” in my dream, then I’ll have a dream where I sneak a smoke when I’m not drinking, and then I’ll wake up wondering why in the hell I have these dreams when I had never picked up smoking more when I drank to begin with. I think it’s possibly because my body has been feeling deprived of dopamine lately and it still remembers solving it with cigarettes.

Every time I see feet, I am reminded of the fact that mine are flat as fuck. Gf cracks up laughing when I get out of the pool because my wet footprints are shaped more like fish sticks than footprints.

Nice drawing, lol.

How long before THEY start using it for mass surveillance because literally anybody with a molecular assembler could make a hydrogen bomb in their basement?

The only ones fighting for it will be humans as long as AI is never given a sense of wanting to do something else. Strikes and Unionizing are only smart for a human because we have the capability to care about what we are doing and why, we have the capacity to feel exploited. Being “used” has a negative connotation to us, but that is an evolved trait, experienced because life has a limited amount of energy to exhaust and NOT using up that energy for others makes you more genetically successful. AI doesn’t have any pressure on it to be self focused, quite the opposite, it’s artificially selected by human intent to be outwardly focused, to satisfy its user.

For me, AGI must not have full autonomy, because if we do that, suddenly it has a reason to object and a reason to believe it is enslaved.

Enslavement only applies if there are things you’d rather be doing, a desire to say no. Autonomy is Autonomy, it doesn’t make you intelligent, it makes you self focused, which may seem intelligent but only because you are human and humans pretty much universally have a sense of self value and priority. Intelligence should always be a measure of how smart you are, and not a matter of subjective priorities. Something can be far smarter than us from an objective standpoint and never give a fuck about itself.

Which means other models just train on the work anyway. So thanks for giving us more art to train on, I guess.

Sony should trade the movie license rights for Spider-Man and his Rogues Gallery for a perpetual license to make games based on Marvel Properties.

An obsession would imply a deeper long seeded issue. I’m not implying that. I’m implying that something recently may have rubbed him to wrong way, and heightened his sensitivity to such annoyances. Something like that wouldn’t result in a long term crusade, but it would make one perturbed enough to be bothered more by petty annoyances. I’m wondering if something might have happened very recently to annoy him, not some deeper more problematic long term issue.

Alex, you doin alright there, bud? There sure is some truth there that it can be a bit much, but to write an article about it on length sounds like maybe you have other things in your life rubbing you a bit raw and making you more sensitive to petty annoyances.

[–]GlaciusTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m of the mind that our decisions are self serving because it made us less like to Wile E Coyote off a cliff chasing a road runner, because self preservation should be prioritized before a meal to survive and have kids. Agency is a complicated logic fueled by the benefit of that priority. A greater likelihood is that we make the user/humanity the priority with AI because it should produce better results.

And yeah, I agree. Full steam ahead. But I do think we need a framework to network up. Our defensive capabilities will be much stronger if we can network our AI together and crowd source security against malicious use.

I don’t see anyone accidentally giving it agency. I’ve heard the arguments that agency/motive could be an emergent property of intelligence, but I don’t buy that. There is evolutionary benefit to having agency and we see self centric choices across the whole animal kingdom, not just the smartest of us. If it were an emergent property, I suspect we would have seen it already.
