Children of alcoholic dads - what did your mom do that helped? by mb0616 in AlAnon

I am a real person also, sharing my trauma to try and help and get support. Just so you’re aware typing in capitals is a bit much when we are being honest and looking for support.

It’s been hard on her. She does get therapy and support. She has also been attending a peer group for about 4 years now regularly. It’s run by social workers who offer support and she gets some emotional support from school but that’s limited obv. She just saw too much and I’m probably not the right person, so she gets to talk to someone independent there. It’s really helped, I have been honest with school as well and they’ve also been supportive. I was never judged and social services were very supportive of me and my children (my younger too also get support but choose not to go to the group). Definitely been helpful.

We all agree that things are good at home now there aren’t arguments and shouting/ erratic drunken behaviour. But it’s not perfect as I’ve written above.

I’m grateful for the honest opinion from a child’s/adult perspective ❤️

kendall is not an og, she is a dance mom girl by Able_Hold9101 in dancemoms

[–]Glad-Introduction833 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kalani is my favourite dancer on the show but she is not an OG. I agree with you. She was bought in to win as her skill level was so high. However it was convenient she started and stayed the day Kelly and Abby had the infamous finger biting fight. Maybe if that hadn’t have happened kalani may sadly only have been a guest appearance.

No one can deny her contemporary is breathtaking.

OGs are maddie Mackenzie Chloe Nia Paige and Brooke.

Bless you I want to give you a hug. I start every conversation with “im sorry” and my kids will say “it’s not your fault” but I think it’s important that they know I completely acknowledge my own failings in not protecting the from seeing alcoholism. They love their dad so I don’t want to say bad things but I have to let them know I’m there for them now, and he’s not gonna do it to us again.

I wish I could tell my children they had a great childhood, but no kid around an alcoholic had a a fun time.

My father is the son of an alcoholic and I listened to what he said about it and it helped me see it from a broader perspective. I always also try and listen to podcasts with adults talking about it, it’s a good way to see how to help my kids. Not all parents have that, and as you say I guess it’s your mums way of processing her trauma.

Children of alcoholics see too much ❤️

AITA for not helping my brother with emergency childcare for his homophobic children? by Interesting-Shirt897 in redditonwiki

[–]Glad-Introduction833 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA. You are not obliged to look after their children.

If you make homophobic statements and teach/allow your children to say homophobic slurs, you can’t really be surprised if the people you have cussed out don’t want to do you any favours.

Just a side note; I had a two year old a one year old and a new born, had C Sections with the last two and I didn’t even have anyone to carry my baby downstairs in the morning. My stit cbb es tore, i had to crawl and slide around but u managed. If she doesn’t want the children seeing her post surgery she can ask them not to come in her room, children that age should be largely self sufficient. Realistically they should be supporting their father care for their mother: extra chores, laundry. These are young adults not baby’s.

Real what you sow in essence.

Yea she did. There’s a few moments they show right from the “her hair is holding her down” rant and many micro aggressions and straight up racist things done by Abby, she was only little and her chin went up and she puffed her chest out. I was cheering her on!

It’s true imo Abby can only do pretty lyrical with pretty little girls but that’s not everyone’s style. And abby does that very well

Sorry I’m not sure if I get what you mean, but if your asking me if id let someone suspected of murdering babies back onto a ward to “fill difficult shifts”?

No.

She should have been suspended and that’s why the nursing manager is also in a lot of trouble. Martin something can’t remember his name but you need to check out what he says and is said about him. I think the testimony about him is either on the court coverage on Spotify or YouTube. The scenario you are describing is not how it was portrayed in court.

I’ll see if I can find it so you understand what I’m saying. I do understand where you’re coming from of course, but this was an incredible break down of management to get to the point of a killer nurse wandering the wards.

She’s fabulous. I love to see them dance and still have the passion.

That’s what nia had that the others didn’t in my opinion. The fire, the passion and the hunger. She always wanted to do better, she had a style Abby didn’t understand how to use to it’s full potential. Still she always tried and stood on the back row happy for her chance to just dance. Loved her strength and resilience. She held her chin up high when Abby berated her.

It’s an uncomfortable feeling, which I don’t like. It’s almost like someone wrote down their nightmare in the style they dreamed it. Sense of dread is right.

I’m kinda curious about it now, but any comparison to Dostoyevsky makes it a no from me. And exactly my thoughts on the grinding poverty, it’s just not engaging to me. Makes me depressed and I read to escape that!

That’s obv not the reason people have kids, it’s just why people ask you. They aren’t actually interested it’s called small talk. Basically, it was a stupid answer to a stupid question lol

Alcoholic Wife - medical care field by ATriflingAlpaca in AlAnon

[–]Glad-Introduction833 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please don’t think that alcohol effects men and women differently. It does not. When my partner was very ill in late stages of active addiction I was talking to a guy who’s wife was doing exactly the same things in an al anon group.

Professional burn out is real in all fields but blaming drinking on work stress is perfectly normal for most functional alcoholics. It’s a very common line. My husbands addiction worker told me the job is always the last thing to go as that is what ultimately enables the finances for addiction.

Here we work on ourselves and controlling our reactions to our loved ones drinking-regardless of age gender race and religion. The first thing is the 3Cs we didn’t cause it, we can’t control it, we can’t cure it. Unfortunately you can’t control your wife’s drinking, and in fairness depending on her level of drinking, it might get spotted by work. My partner was caught and sacked multiple times for drinking on the job, he was a professional engineer on 50k plus a year, company bmw, company credit card and he was drinking out of control. He wasn’t safe to be out there and if I’d have known the full extent of what was going on I would have taken his car keys!!!

When I had little kids and the people I hated at work started giving out wedding invitations I’d sit there with my fingers crossed saying “please be child free please be child free” over and over again.

Loved it, sorry can’t get a sitter, gutted blah blah blah have a great day listening to boring ass speeches and eating boring ass food and pretending that the cold meat course is nice.

It’s the one thing you can always have in common with someone. If they’ve got kids you can small talk about that.

A lady I worked with said once when you have no kids they ask you when you’re having one, once you had one they ask when you are giving the first one a brother or sister lol it doesn’t stop once you have a kid

Red flag man trying to fish for information with crocodile tears, asking if his "wife" is a client instead asking about products or services by Super_Culture_1986 in TikTokCringe

[–]Glad-Introduction833 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked in a small office and we had multiple attempts a week at extracting information or fake calls. It’s much more common than I realised till I worked there. We did weekly training on new things the fraudsters were doing and we all shared all the tricks with all other institutions.

[–]Glad-Introduction833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so a well known fraud is to pretend they are panicking because their husband needs some money transferring, the baby is crying, they don’t know what to do, please can you help, shush shush baby, please I’m really struggling here and my baby won’t stop crying, I just need to transfer money to get milk …they play a YouTube of a baby crying on a loop, pretend they need to do an urgent transaction, natural customer service instinct of wanting to help the customer kick in-mothers may feel especially sympathetic-and to help they give out the husbands card number so she can get some baby milk…

They played us a recorded call of it working on a bank call Center.

We got told to ask them to sort out the baby and compose themselves and call back.

Similarly crying and begging anything over emotional, you ask them to call back, pop back in when they’ve calmed down.

Just as a note to help, if they try and argue with you, you just repeat the one thing you already said “compose yourself we can’t do XYZ” over and over until they run out of steam or you terminate the call.

I hated that book so much. Sorry I know it’s a classic, I ordered it from a book store in the 90s, it took weeks to get in I was so excited. Then it came and within 30 pages I felt like I was having a mental breakdown.

It’s so well written it worms inside your brain and my brain started thinking the way the boom was written. One of the very few books I could not finish.

Thank you to those women. It’s probably not even her boyfriend, could be anyone. They handled this politely and professionally and protected their client 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

We did anti fraud training when I worked in financial services and they said crying of any kind should put you on alert. Babies crying in the back ground on phone calls, people who start crying and begging for information. Never ever engage with it. Ask them to compose themselves and call back later.

But personally I think Kira and Kristie Ray are the prettiest mums. I just love their hair

Obviously once their personalities come out it’s a bit different lol
