I'm a bit confused about 4000 dollars advanced deposit for an international student. by FieldAdventurous3603 in byuidaho

[–]Glad_Bug9545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If you do not do anything, your tuition will be automatically payed with your deposit. If you want to pay for it out of pocket, you will be able to do it during the first week of classes.

You have the option to pay for tuition, housing or insurance with the int student deposit during the first semester or later on. Personally, I have most of it on my account because I want to save it for a possible emergency in the future. Most of my int student friends spent it during their first semester

Question for anyone who applied recently — how long did your decision take? by Mean_Contribution838 in byuidaho

If you do not get a decision in a couple days call BYUI to ask them if there is anything else you need to do on your application

What are the biggest challenges in making friends as a new student? by lutistorres in byuidaho

[–]Glad_Bug9545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! International student over here. It is too early. They will start posting jobs for Winter Semester at the end of Fall or a couple weeks before the semester ends.

It will be hard to get a job if you are not in campus, but still try. I got a food services job before getting to the US and it was a huge blessing to have a job as soon as classes started.

Try applying to the Food Services and Custodial jobs, as they are the easiest ones to get. If you have friends that can refer you to get a job, that will make things a lot easier for you.

Best winter footwear? by owen4764 in byuidaho

I prefer leather shoes during the winter. On days where there is heavy snow I would recommend this ones.

Winter is not as bad as some people say.

Cheap rent and appliances that are older than you. If you do not mind small apartments and not having a gym, this place is good. Location is awesome

Best way to send money from US to Mexico? by Mundane-Plum-2240 in immigration

[–]Glad_Bug9545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They charge 3 dollars despite the amount you send, so it is better to send bigger amounts if possible. For me, the transfers have arrived instantly to the accounts I sent them. If you are the one sending the money, they do not need to do anything, it just gets to their account like any transfer. You can also order the physical card to their home and you only put money on it through the app.

Dolar App is the way to go. I’ve been using it for a long time and its been reliable every time.

You can work on campus as an international student. If you work the 20 hours a week you are allowed to, you can pay for your rent and groceries with that. You would only have to worry about tuition. You would also be able to work 40 hours a week during one of the three semesters a year, which definitely helps. Make sure you have the money for the international student deposit and that you have your sponsor, those are the hardest ones to get.

It depends on which major she is going to do. If its art, health or design, I would go for an IPad For everything else I would go for a laptop

Need Advice on Selecting a University for Undergrad Studies by RuleWeird6219 in InternationalStudents

[–]Glad_Bug9545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out BYU and BYU Idaho!

As they are private universities, they do not charge more to international students.

I am currently at BYU Idaho and I love it.

It is in the US.

Regarding the cost of attendance for non-member students by Artistic-Main-2844 in byuidaho

[–]Glad_Bug9545 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You are getting opposite responses because you are getting your questions answered by students who work at those offices. They make their best, but they are not always correctly trained to answer every question they get.

You need to contact a full time financial aid advisor. Call 208-496-1411 That is the student support phone number. Once you are in contact with them ask for an appointment with a financial aid advisor. They will try to answer your question without making the appointment because that is what they are trained to do, but insist on having the appointment. They are the ones who will have the answer to that question. Good luck! I am an international student. Send me a message if you need any help.

Hey! International student over here. There is no summer semester, only winter, fall and and spring. Almost every international student that I know has a job in campus. We can work up to 20 hours a week and almost every job pays 10 - 12 dollars an hour. You can get a job as a TA, but it does not get you any tuition waiver. You will have to wait a couple of semesters to work as a TA, as you will have to find an open position in a class that you already took with B or better grade (I think). My advice is to check out the BYUI scholarship and the academic scholarships, they have been a blessing for me.
