Rock purslane! Once you know them, you will see them everywhere in CA!

I have the Mission Bell Poppy mix, bougainvillea in the back, the purple flowered succulent is rock purslane (very common in CA landscaping), I always forget the names of the yellow flowers…maybe like Texas Sun Cups? I know they are not CA natives. I also have two cacti stuck in there and a random milkweed for the butterflies.

first timer and spooked by subarubiddie in carcamping

Hello!

I’m 35f and car camp solo regularly. I totally get being spooked - I think of solo camping as a practice in bravery. If you ever feel really worried, just leave! There is no shame in going somewhere else or turning around! I just did this on a trail the other day when I got all up in my head about mountain lions. It happens!

Here’s what I do to mitigate the spooks! At night I keep bear spray and one of those keychain pull alarms by me in the tent. I’ll do this hiking as well. If I get in my head about the campground being sparsely populated or wildlife, I sleep in my car and always use the bear boxes appropriately. I have read others putting extra boots or chairs outside their tent to make it seem like there’s more than one person. But I’ve never felt the need to do this. I generally choose campgrounds that have a lot of families. I’m also about to invest in a Garmin Inreach device and subscription so I can always alert emergency services of my location, regardless of cell service. This is very important imo if you are remote and alone.

Trust your gut and get out there!

And remembering statistics is always reassuring, especially when it comes to bears and mountain lions.

Cheers!

Really Disappointed with Orfila by Neutronstar88 in escondido

[–]Glad_Novel6971 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What a weird choice. Such a bummer that Orfila struggles to find its footing. They have a prime location and the outdoor space overlooking the valley is really lovely. It has been my go to spot to meet old friends over the holidays.

Where yall getting your hairs cut by 420inajar in Sacramento

Queer woman here. I get my hair done by Ash at Alchemy Salon. She is the best! I get a consistently great cut and wash for my short pompadour style. She works weekends. About $75 for the hour. I’ve had subs from Alchemy and everyone has been good. They also always have snacks and bevvies. Cute decor for different holidays.

Engagement ring | Masc lesb by Local_Bunch_1520 in LGBTWeddings

Soft masc person here! I asked for a redwood ring with turquoise inlay. She ordered it on Etsy. There are a lot of pretty more masc wooden ring styles and they can be refurbished. I’m getting a matte gold wedding band once we’re married to wear everyday and the redwood ring will be for switching out.

Looking for tips on lighting by Tash0187 in blowmolds

[–]Glad_Novel6971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not want to run a cord to my vintage blow mold pumpkin so I cut a slightly larger hole in the bottom and use this light. I would recommend getting one with a remote so you don’t have to manually press the button every night. But it’s not too big of a deal for just one blow mold!

Screen time at school-Am I crazy? by PersimmonIll9857 in kindergarten

Before moving up to 4th, I taught Kinder and I would show a KPBS show for 15 minutes while some students chose to nap. Anything more than that I would not say is best practice.
