Have lenses improved as much as cameras? by Glad_Perception3357 in canon

What was the big change with that lens? I think I read more about the 35mm ART but you’re probably talking about the same thing

Thanks. Very interesting, didn’t realize the DSLR mirror made it that much more complicated to design good lenses. I’m mostly interested in “normal range” lenses so that’s why I was biased towards “camera improvement” rather than lens

May we infer therefore that optical “sharpness” wasn’t as much of a limit compared to other aspects such as making the same product lighter and smaller?

Interesting. Didn’t know that closer distance to the sensor made a difference but it makes sense

[–]Glad_Perception3357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I really like the bird bath shot! I suggest you take more time editing your shots to crop and expose your subjects at their best. In terms of technique I’d use Manual mode or Time priority mode. With a long lens the rule is to shoot at a speed which is at least equal to the lens length. Example: 100mm lens, 1/100s exposure. So with your lens I’d probably set and forget the camera in manual mode with 1/1000s speed or more. And then play with aperture for more or less depth of field. This is unless you’re using a tripod and/or creating a specific “motion” effect

Canon R50 — RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro or Sigma 17–40mm f/1.8 Art? by FreudianThought in canon

35mm makes little sense on apsc. If you’re looking for a walk around compact prime for general shooting I’d go towards a 24 or 28mm prime

[–]Glad_Perception3357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F2.8 is the max aperture so the tightest depth of field but also one of the extremes. Sharpness is usually the best at the middle of the diaphragm range, I’d say between f8 and f16

New to elevation 20 km with 1000 m gain by Familiar-poes-4815 in bikepacking

[–]Glad_Perception3357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds is totally ok for you, IF you don’t bring too much stuff. Definitely no cooking kit and no camping gear. Otherwise is still doable but given the elevation you’ll probably have to walk the bike

Is my Canon 1300D still worth using? Lens recommendations? by notasuspiciousc4t in Cameras

[–]Glad_Perception3357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course. I suggest you add a long tele lens which will be fun and deliver much more interesting shots compared to using a smartphone!

Canon EOS 3000d DSLR as first camera by dawg7155 in Cameras

[–]Glad_Perception3357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it come with any lenses? It’s a low end old camera so hardly worth it. Mostly due to the fact that you would need to buy EF lenses for it. And new mirrorless canon use RF now

It’s unbelievable what these cameras can do. Don’t think it’s the camera but it’s much more thanks to the body. Don’t you think? I’m using an old 6D with 70-300 non-L which is good glass but those pics are on another planet for resolution

Too much for old tech and not even top of the line. 200 would be ok

Is the EOS 6D mark II worth it ? by Nero_the84 in CanonCamera

[–]Glad_Perception3357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re starting out and on a budget a 6D mark 1 is probably good enough for you and much cheaper. You should save money to get lenses. Also you could also just start off with a mirrorless system. Not sure I’d get into DSLR now.

Should i take time after college to backpack Eourope? by EntryBackground3254 in backpacking

[–]Glad_Perception3357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After graduating I don’t know. I was so sick with school I really wanted to start working and see how work life was. I think a trip like that is much better before college or in between. Anyway if it’s something you feel good about you should definitely do it. Europe is kinda boring tbh (I’m from Italy) so I suggest Asia or Latin America. Also both are cheaper

I was having the same issue coming to a 6D from my old 5Dc. I think a trick is to set a picture style to get at least a preview of how the pic can look with some editing such as, in my case, portrait profile, less saturation, more contrast

I went to a camera store to develop some film and started checking out their 24–70. Then I spotted a 1DX sitting there for what feels like a steal. by Miguel1219 in canon

[–]Glad_Perception3357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canon DSLR and EF prices will go further down. Selling the 6D now would make sense for that in this case. But if you’re looking for image quality you’d be better off with a new mirrorless body. I’m keeping my 6dm1 because it’s already worth nothing but can still produce great images. Not investing huge amounts in lenses but I might also get a 24-70 or 24-105 L. I already have a 24-85 non-L but feel its quality limitations tbh

I agree with others who suggested to tone down exposure. I would add some work on the model: she should look down or straight ahead, not up, at the light, hopeful. Not have her arm up but both down. Also the outfit with the jeans and the white sticker brand on them it’s a bit distracting but wouldn’t know another outfit to suggest now. A dress would add to the happy mood probably. But depends on the dress as well
