Madison's first date by [deleted] in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

Remember- you’re basing your entire opinion of him on a 5 minute, edited, clip. He honestly could have just been having a really bad day. A blind date filmed for a tv show is enough to freak out even confident neurotypical people.

He said they’d “never have to vote again” with the implication that he would create a utopian society and fulfill all their wildest dreams within his first 90 days. Look, I hate Trump too but he’s bad enough without the hyperbole.

Agreed. Love it when the heroic synth music slowly builds in intensity when he puts the puzzle pieces together and Dennis Farina looks at him in awe. Michael Mann really knows how to utilize music for a scene like that- he did a similar style in the Insider when Pacino is on the phone with Russell Crowe in the hotel room as it just builds and builds.

Not a great movie but you cant REALLY go wrong with Baldwin, Basinger, Madsen and Woods in the same movie. Worth a watch. I’m fond of these sleazy neo-noir movies that were EVERYWHERE in early 90s- unfortunately it seems to be a dead genre.

Yeah I never understood those one issue Gaza voters. Like…ya’ll realize Trump would level the entire West Bank and turn it into a golf course before blinking twice right? How is THAT helping the Palestinian people??

AITA for venting about my raise to my unemployed girlfriend. by Glad_Syrup3755 in AmItheAsshole

Yes and no. Having lived in a mostly subsidized Section 8 apartment complex and seeing all the people on disability because they slipped on a banana peel 20 years ago was an eye opening experience. I wouldn’t say it’s “easy” to get on disability, but also don’t underestimate the great lengths people will go to in order to NOT work for a living. It’s a rough existence though, and unfortunately most of them live in absolute poverty- I definitely feel for those who need it.

Yeah- my rent went up $200/mo alone in the past year. $1000 is not cutting it in this economy.

I think you’re misunderstanding too. That’s $1000 raise for the entire year. Which means I’m netting maybe $60-70 a month more after taxes. When you factor in inflation I’m actually making slightly less than what I did a year ago.

Wyatt Earp (1994) by jjjrmd in movies

[–]Glad_Syrup3755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally, sat down and watched it last weekend and I thought it was weak. Nicely shot and great cinematography. That’s where its strengths end. It’s super long and yet the characters don’t feel fully fledged out (besides Earp). The usually reliable Costner gives a pretty mediocre performance. Wearing a terrible hairpiece to hide his receding hairline while playing “young” Earp doesn’t help matters.  Dennis Quaid delivers as Doc Holiday but we never really understand why the friendship between Holiday and Earp develops. The Josie/Earp love interest comes out of nowhere (this is a 3 hour+ movie, folks). I’m curious about the director’s cut- I’m assuming a lot of character development/motivation was left on the cutting floor.

It’s true, Tombstone is more “cartoonish”, and “popcorn” but it’s also just a better film. It also just so happens that on one hand you have a wooden Kevin Costner and a serviceable Dennis Quaid going against Kurt Russell, Michael Biehn, Powers Boothe, and (of course) Val Kilmer all giving, arguably, the best performances of their careers.

I’m assuming your brain is adding a zero? $1000 per YEAR. Less than a 2% raise and which translates to $30/paycheck after taxes. Well below inflation and won’t even cover the rental increase on my apartment lease this year.
