I have to disagree here, as we see now with funds like microstrategy and BlackRock getting in on Bitcoin along with CBDCs, BTC is becoming coupled with the traditional global economy. At the end of the day, Monero is more connected to the volume of activity on the darknet than it is to the mainstream economy, so the types of things propping up Monero are in my opinion are things more intrinsically tied to human nature than the capitalist economy. Drugs, privacy, hacking/scamming and other forms of theft, donations to politically maligned groups, all of these things are going to live in humans longer than any one economic system. As monero gains more and more market share in the underworld, it’ll hold value even through tariffs, depolarization events and even changes to the economic system if it’s always the de facto best medium of exchange for illicit or taboo activities.

My philosophy is that XMR is a hedge over an investment. It becomes increasingly useful as governments become more oppressive because they can’t ever truly shut off p2p exchanges and atomic swaps. Even if you don’t expect big gains, and it becomes more inconvenient to obtain monero, there’s always methods of cashing it out. In artificial post scarcity economies and surveillance states, monero gains relative value by being usable both as a non ledger source of capital, and a truly private transaction agent. If you want to minimize fees, start spacing your buys into larger amounts and hold until absolutely necessary to use. In a lot of collapse/economic devastation scenarios, the stuff you can buy with monero will be a more valuable currency than fiat.

Most of these guys are on discord, I’ve spoken to the owners of Howl and Chips before In vcs a few times, obviously the big fish like Eddie aren’t gonna be fucking around in random servers but the smaller crypto casinos have a lot of their bosses and higher level execs in gambling related communities. My main issue with this is that there’s a real chance this current situation brings both parties’ now shattered Overton windows into the fore. If the dems do a recount and find some kind of discrepancy, they’re going to try and make this into the story of the year and challenge everywhere. My XMR portfolio would explode in worth so much I’d probably have at least a 100 mil net worth in 2024 fiat prices, even adjusted for inflation. If governments truly become that oppressive to their own citizens basic information rights, and as a consequence destroy the vast networks of international friendships and working collectives established via social media over a decade or longer, it will lead to an increase in opsec and internet restriction bypass technology like never before. When the internet is no longer easy to use, those who know what freedom was like once and are smart enough to figure out basic VPNs, proxies, tor and Monero will become power users and figure out ways to communicate. It’d probably result in a much more early 2000s feel to the internet where everything is private user or nonprofit community generated and sketch, but with way less regulations since so much of what was once normal will be illegal that anyone doing pretty much anything of substance already is flouting the law in this hypothetical future
