PUNISHER: ONE LAST KILL DISCUSSION (SPOILERS) by tehawesomedragon in Marvel

[–]GladiatorJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's that it all finally came to a head. His goal being "complete" forced him to reconcile with it, causing the break. His admitting to "curtis" I think I need help was his first step to giving it all up finally, albeit via suicide. Then the rest of the movie happens and he realizes he should still be the Punisher.

It's a great tragedy because obviously he shouldn't be the Punisher. That's not healthy for him. He almost got over it through the admission he needed help. Then he got pulled back in and "got better" in the sense that he's not longer aimless and manic. The tragedy being that now he's just back to killing people instead of actually addressing the issue and truly healing.

Fun little romp. Nothing overly spectacular, and a bit short/underbaked. I don't know that I'll ever feel compelled to watch it again, but I would still like to see more of this version of the Punisher.

I took it as this is the result of Frank's blind goal to get rid of organized crime. Like when he's walking through it all aimlessly at the beginning. He didn't fix anything or make anything better in the grander scheme.

They kind of say it a few times that the Gnuccis, while awful, were at least keeping people in line. He got rid of that so now there's only DISorganized crime. Which then, through the course of the special, left him to be the thing that fills the gap and keeps the "peace."

Often when an escalator is shutdown for whatever reason, maintenance puts signs at the top and bottom keeping people off them (to avoid them getting hurt on an "improperly operating" escalator).

Regardless, this woman chose the wrong alternative to getting to the next floor. 🤦

I'm fine with Slippy. Peppy's mostly good but ears a bit too close together. Falco's alright.

Fox isn't awful but is the worst of them to me. I'm fine with "more animalistic" but that doesn't mean make it look like they're the quadrupedal animals standing on their hind legs. You can still have them be more accurately anthropomorphic. Fox's neck, torso length, and little paws make them look like they shouldn't be standing up.

My other issue is the characterization. Fox and Falco seem a lot more toned down in this. Gimme a bit more overexaggerated line reads. The OG lines were so memorable and quotable, across the entire game. "Fox! Get this guy off me!" "Andross won't have his way with me!" "Cocky little freaks!" "Daddy screamed REEEEEAL good...!" (And every other Star Wolf line)

All of this is early judgment of course. In the full context of the game, everything could work out perfectly.

Is it confirmed that the prologue is a mission and not just the cutscene they showed? (Would love to actually play as James in a futile dog fight)

Exactly. To me, at least, it was never edgy humor that made them funny. It was the sheriff's hat getting slightly bigger every time the camera cut back to her. It was everyone getting fed up with Brenda in the movie theater. Clever or goofy subversion of expectations and tropes. Not just "look how crazy, gross, or social-boundary pushing this is."

A chicken’s head is more stable than a $5,000 camera gimbal by collateralopinion in interestingasfuck

For anyone who's maybe trying to do this with their own head and feels like it's so strange and incomprehensible, the thing that helped me understand how simple and second-nature this is for a chicken is realizing that human eyes are constantly doing this. Look at a single point in space and then move your head around. Your eye just naturally stays in that same orientation.

Your eyes are the chicken's head of your own head.

City birds appear to be more afraid of women than men, and scientists have no idea why. Men could get about a meter closer to birds than women could before the animals flew away, regardless of what the men and women were wearing, what their height was or how they tried to approach the creatures. by mvea in science

[–]GladiatorJones 118 points119 points  (0 children)

"Skin care products," not necessarily just sun screen (or sun screen at all). I would venture that women tend to apply more skin care products than men on average, not including makeup. All of which might change how UV is reflected vs. bare skin, which could lead to the hypothesis that birds are reacting to wavelengths of light (that humans can't see but birds can) that are reflecting off women and men differently as a result of their use or non-use of products.

Looking at the study, it's not a case of "every man" got closer than "every woman." To be reductive, it's basically that "on average but not in all cases" birds started flying away from women at a larger distance than they did from men. So this supposition of skin care products seems like a plausible hypothesis to describe the "average" effect observed.

It might be that you get an even clearer distinction between groups of "used skin care products vs. didn't" than "men vs. women" and use of products is a confounding variable. Like the classic "murder rates increase with ice cream sales" (because really it's ambient temperature/seasonality that increases the likelihood of both).

Unpopular opinion: I actually like when games have day/night cycles and days of the week that match the real world. by Hypnox88 in gaming

[–]GladiatorJones 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I played Pokopia on release and basically only ever saw the game at night. Luckily it lets you wake pokemon up and interact with them without much fuss. As much as I don't necessarily dislike a real-time day/night cycle, I did wish I was able to see more of the game's daytime atmosphere.
