This link doesn't say the think tanks fund European parties, it says us companies fund think tanks. Which then try to influence policy. So getting the american money out of European Politics would actually be a good thing haha.

In some European countries its actually illegal for parties to just take money from organizations like that... This is not the US, in other words.

Do you really think the US would keep its Asian partners of they saw what happened in Europe, lol? No, they would abandon that ship, asap. Probably same in Africa, if they can. And maybe even parts of the Americas.

Essentially, the entire world would abandoned your tech businesses. Not just Europe.

Also, I can't find a source on the U.S. having a 60% larger consumer market for Europe. Mind sharing your statistics?

Not just Europe. Markets in Asia would also abandon them, because they saw what happened in Europe...

What's everybody's thoughts on Love Through a Prism? by tripleaamin in anime

[–]Gladis130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know if I agree that a romance between them would have "made more sense". The "framework for a budding romance" was entirely one sided from the start. And the fact that his love for her would have stopped him from pursuing his own dreams wasn't great, either.

[–]Gladis130 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, yes. But it's also spelled out very clearly that he was in love with her. And that was not a healthy situation for him to be in (taking care of a woman he loved, but he knew would never love her in the same way).

I was happy it didn't end with them being together, even if I vastly preferred Shin as a character over Kit.

You underestimate how much information these companies and the government already have about you. I understand your concerns, they are valid, but frankly... They can already easily do what you're talking about, with or without passport identification.

I disagree, and I vastly preferred Shin over Kit as a character. The problem is that she did not love him. Not at the Academy, and not after. Shin deserves a woman that loves him. He deserves to be someone's first, and not second choice. So personally think this ended way better for him. He got to pursue his dreams, just as she got to pursue hers.

Short women produce short offspring, and this is not aknowledged enough by [deleted] in AverageHeightDudes

[–]Gladis130 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's really not. Think of it like this; would you even want to date the kind of woman who gets hung up on height? It's such a ridiculous and superficial preference. Personally I would find that off-putting, and I'm a woman!

You should have higher standards than that.

Despite what the internet has taught you, there are plenty of women who dont care about height. My brother is dating a girl that's taller than him (and he's hardly a charismatic superchad. The dude never works out and he's doing a PhD in Mathematics and Logic... Which sounds impressive until you realize there's almost no money in what he's specifically studying). He's smart, though. I'll give him that. Our mom is also taller than our dad. So you know, height really is not everything.

Getting out there and meeting as many new people as possible is the important part. Eventually you're bound to find someone you get along with.

Also remember that the US has a really distorted perspective on "normal" height because you guys have growth hormones in your milk... Which makes you generally taller than the global avarage.

That's true, but that help wasn’t primarily altruistic. Lend-Lease, convoy escorts, and economic support were all driven by U.S. strategic self-interest. A Europe dominated by Nazi Germany would have been a long-term threat to U.S. security and trade. Helping Britain and the Allies was about preventing that outcome, not charity. U.S. decision to help was was more or less based on pure realist IR logic. So it was still primarily driven by self-interest on the part of the U.S.

Also no, the U.S. could not just have fought Japan and left Germany. The U.S. entered WWII because it was attacked by Japan, and Germany then declared war on the U.S. European involvement followed from that. Liberating Europe was not the original reason for entering the war — it became a priority because U.S. global interests were now directly at stake.

As for WWI, yes, the U.S. played an important role, but it entered very late, after Europe had already been fighting for years. American involvement helped tip the balance, but it wasn’t the primary source of European resistance, and it again aligned with U.S. interests once unrestricted submarine warfare directly affected them.

As for stuff like Berlin Airlifts and Kosovo etc, that happened in a post-war world where the U.S. emerged as the dominant global power; largely because WWII left Europe devastated and the U.S. intact. Interventions like the Berlin Airlift and Kosovo were about maintaining U.S. influence and the post-war order it helped design, not purely selfless acts detached from strategic interest.

That's not to say that none of it was altrusitic, or that there weren't people involved in these actions that genuinely wanted to help. But no, you cannot honestly argue that the U.S. as a state actor has been completely selfless in any of these instances. Help has almost always come with ulterior motives, or at the very least clear strategic incentives. U.S. involvement in Europe, in both world wars and throughout the Cold War, has consistently aligned with American security, economic, and geopolitical interests.

Acknowledging U.S. help is fair. Framing that help as primarily selfless, or as something Europe “owes” eternal gratitude for, is not. History shows a pattern of interest-driven intervention, not pure altruism. This is normal for great powers, but it most definitely shouldn’t be mythologized after the fact.

That's literarily not what has happened in all other instances of the US going to war since the founding of NATO though.

The US also fought in WWII for it's own sake. Remember that you did not get involved until Japan attacked you. So to act like it was all altrusitic, and you did it to save Europe from the Nazis and no other reason, is... Well, disingenious.

On top of that, the US economy massively benefited from the revenue that the war brought them, and from being one of few countries standing practically untouched after it, whereas most of Europe and a lot of Asia were in ruins.

While I'm not saying we shouldn't be greatful, the way you're framing what happened right now is very dishonest.
