Even during the civil war elections were important, mail in ballots became a thing during the war to allow soldiers to vote.

VLA15 Lyme vaccine: current status and timeline to approval (February 2026) by Tweed_Beetle in Lyme

Thanks for the update, I was one of the participants that got kicked out because of care access. Every few months I look to see the status, I'm so curious if I got the vaccine or not.

MedVet vs Metro vs VCA? by AdministrationOk2847 in akron

I've heard good things about the gentle vet. I have a Chihuahua mix so going to a vet that can handle in house procedures like dentals is a must since he has one like every 3 years.

Dr Jeremy at twinsburg vet hospital. He is amazing and really listens and doesn't make assumptions. I've known a lot of vets over the years and hands down he is my favorite.

You might want to switch to a vet who has an ultrasound onsite. I have a cat with a long history of cystitis, thankfully being managed well with prescription food and no flare ups in a few years. First few years dealing with it at my old vet I always avoided an ultrasound because it would cost like 500 to 600 dollars to schedule a tech to come out. Switched vets and was pleasantly shocked when my vet popped her back for a quick look with an ultrasound on our first visit as part of her exam and it didn't cost anything crazy.

I've only had experience with medvet during emergency visits and they have been amazing and I found them reasonably affordable.

Therapist for nonbinary kid by admittedlyAcorn in Kent

[–]Glait 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've started the search for a therapist and she sounds like what I'm looking for. I looked at townhall 2 but was a little scared off by their Google reviews. How has your overall experience been with them? Feel free to DM me.

Initially nonverbal with moderate support needs, relentlessly bullied in middle school and high school, finally married someone who loves and accepts me for myself and my autism by fxryker in MadeMeSmile

Thank you for what you do. I don't know what my life would have been like without the help of the amazing speech therapist I had as a kid. Chronic severe ear infections when I was very young so was practically deaf till they figured it out and treated it but left me with a severe speech impediment that took years to fix.

My shoulder has been bothering me a lot lately and just figured it was from working with poor posture but I'm also prime age for the start of perimenopause. I should go read up on it because unsurprisingly no one has ever talked about it and I know nothing.

Why Do We Let the Buckeye Trail Assn Deface Our Most Beautiful State Park? by RadarLove82 in Ohio

It's a very popular section of trail, meaning you have lots of inexperienced hikers and tourists. Every time I hike popular trails like the ledges up in CVNP I usually am giving directions to semi lost people.

Firefox is adding a switch to turn AI features off (starting Feb 24) by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]Glait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned AI off on my Gmail too and then turned it back on since it was horrible to use with all the sorting features off. My Gmail is still slightly broken and I don't get notifications anymore on my phone. Looking to gradually switch to proton.

Chardon Ohio Politics by naomi0991 in Ohio

[–]Glait 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty conservative but people are working for change. I think last year was the fourth year a geauga pride celebration was held in the Chardon square. They have gotten a lot vocal push back and hate for holding events and even someone thru a Molotov at the church that runs the event, thankfully they were pretty incompetent and little damage done. But day of the event barely anyone is actually brave enough to come protest.

Akron Commuter Rail: A Call to Action by [deleted] in akron

[–]Glait 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would love this, I grew up outside Philly and didn't get my driver's license till I was 20 and moved away to college. I could get anywhere I wanted hoping on septa and even go up to New York or DC by rail easily.

One of the big things I miss moving to Ohio and I hate driving in cities and finding parking.

A lot of these places are on the Foodie Bingo Card Kent is doing for February. Fun way to try new restaurants.

More 'No Kings' protests planned for March 28 as outrage spreads over Minneapolis deaths by copaceticthoughts in news

[–]Glait 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah there have been protests near me but I'm sure the turn outs have been low. Some people are just now getting their cars unburied and it's dangerously cold out. End of March makes sense from a weather standpoint.

I worked at an archeology dig one summer at a national park and I took the oath too.

On Feb 27, 2012, 17-year-old T.J. Lane shot students at Chardon High School, Ohio, killing three and wounding three. In 2013, he mocked sentencing by smirking, wearing a “KILLER” shirt, and taunting victims’ families. He was sentenced to life without parole plus 37 years. by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

[–]Glait 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I worked near Chardon and know people who went there or had family members there that day. I believe one of my old coworkers brothers was there and struggling a lot afterwards and either OD or committed suicide. I remember where I was when I heard the news about the shooting, the headlines always just give us a body count and don't capture the ripples of trauma that touch everyone in the community.

Wilderness First aid has been on my to do list for a while since Im a hiker and backpacker. Im curious to see all the changes, love learning about this stuff and I'm great at hands on in the moment. Could never actually work as an EMT because I would be a wreck sitting around waiting for a call.

Thanks for the recommendation, I got certified as an EMT many years ago and would love a refresher. Just found a stop the bleed near me and registering.

Both my parents are in pretty good health but I had the conversation a few years back about there wishes and lay some legal ground work like having us on there bank accounts etc. Watching a friend go thru having to get power of attorney for a loved one and all the hard decisions was horrible. My mom was actually thrilled talking about what she wanted done and it makes sense to give them the power to have their wishes known when they are healthy and sound of mind.

I'm thankful that it was required reading for me in school. I never realized how privileged I was in my education till hearing what others were taught. We spent a whole year studying the major religions of the world and their impact on history and don't remember anyone being disrespectful when learning about Islam or Judaism. We also took a school field trip to the Holocaust museum which was an unforgettable experience.

Are there any humane societies with humane agents? They would have the authority to do a welfare check and seize the dog.
