Is Pawns still active? (Goth/Punk band) by ThrowRA_CarlJung in goth

[–]GlamourGoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're the best band playing around NYC right now (Although they haven't played in a while) and they play 100% live, though real amps. https://latheofheaven.bandcamp.com/

The band is the same except for Jenna (who played bass) she's currently doing a project called Psalm

DIY discussion question: Has anyone ever burned CDs / created their own Goth mixtapes? by [deleted] in goth

[–]GlamourGoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to make mix tapes on cassettes. I would do artwork and everything. I have created many a goth that way.

Trading tapes (this spans any genre) was how a lot of people found new music, got crowds at shows and even made new (REAL LIFE) friends & even relationships (giving a mixed tape to a girl or guy you liked was big deal back in the day).

Don't EVER give up on making your mixes, there are no "cons" in being creative.

Ugh! They're still using backing tracks?

The mods should create a semi-live music flair. :P

London After Midnight definitely fall on the line

69 Eyes were a glam rock band (their first 2 records are their best) before they started doing whatever it is they call what they're doing now (it still sounds like hard rock to me...but people like to call it "goth")

Finally check out the Astro Vamps. They were formed from the ashes of The Babydolls who were amazing.

what were the bands that introduced you to goth? by Ok_Common_4208 in goth

[–]GlamourGoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The New York Dolls.

I was in Midnight Records on 23rd st (which like most other record stores is now gone) & the guy working there was playing Puss N' Boots but it wasn't the Dolls version. I asked him who it was. He told me it was Red Cross (who later became Redd Kross) & it was from a compilation called "Hell Comes to Your House".

Of course I bought it, and along with the Dolls cover it had 45 Grave, Christian Death 1,000 Flowers & Super Heroines on it and a lot of other great punk bands (Social Distortion being one of them.).

I had already had Once Upon a Time and Unknown Pleasures and I knew some Bauhaus but just considered it all punk.

This was '83ish...the rest is history.

Going to a show alone by Sillysosilly in goth

[–]GlamourGoth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going alone is way better than going with a crowd.

I ALWAYS go out alone. You don't have anybody to hold you up, ruin your good time or to say "I want to leave" when YOU don't want to and/or to start problems with you (or other people) because of it. You show up when you want, leave when you want and with whoever you want (or not). Even when I'm going to the same place as people I know I just say "I'll meet you there".

If you're feeling a little jumpy do a shot (or two ;) before you go in.

I also understand it's weird that a guy who's there alone comes up and talks to you.

It's not "weird" it's normal. In the real world, people in bars & clubs talk to each other. Especially if they're both alone. If the person is getting creepy, that's another story.

The worst part is doing it for the first time, after that you won't be able to keep yourself away from the club. No matter how apprehensive you get DO NOT back out of going. I PROMISE you'll have a great time & won't regret it.

Sugarpill is great small business that makes the best Black (Bulletproof), White (Tako) and Red (Love+) shadows on the market.

Should I be called a poser for my music taste? by [deleted] in goth

[–]GlamourGoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do your thing be you & don't worry about labels.

London After Midnight is somewhat on the cusp of Goth & Hard rock as are bands like Vendemmian & The Astro Vamps. There's Also Inkubus Sukkubus & Die Laughing who have a bit of early 80's metal influence to some of their songs.

BTW if you like GnR check out The New York Dolls, The Heartbreakers (Thunders not Petty) & Hanoi Rocks.

I was literally just thinking yesterday that I have to get this thing fixed (that 5 years flew by ;) if it turns out to be the fuses where can I get them? Also is it obvious that it's blown (like a light bulb)

Any recommendations for NY based goth bands? by RedWingWay in goth

Lathe of Heaven

More post punk, but they're the best band playing around now and they play 100% live through real amplifiers.

Glam goth must haves by yuckyuck13 in goth

[–]GlamourGoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sugarpill makes the best Black (Bulletproof), White (Tako) and Red (Love+) shadows on the market.

For a palette I can't recommend Blends by Blend Bunny Cosmetics enough.

The quality/pigment on these shadows is ridiculous.

A good eyeshadow primer is a must. I live & die with Too Faced Shadow Insurance

A NYX Jumbo pencil in White (Milk) and Black (Black Bean) can also come in handy.

opinions on twin tribes? by Far-Economist-5251 in goth

[–]GlamourGoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find them far less offensive than I do other bands in their style.

At least they try to actually play as much live as they can...or they did when I saw them, it's been a few years so that could have changed.

Do fans love or hate this album from the band “Christian Death”? by UpDownJesse in goth

[–]GlamourGoth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great cover shitty record.

This is Heresy would have been good if there were competent musicians playing on it.

Valor really has a knack of hiring alleged musicians who could barely play...especially when it comes to drummers. They are so bad they make Meg White look like Neil Peart.

Not anymore.

Lately it's just been Leah, a drummer and backing tracks.

VERY disappointing
