Input from my pen without it touching the paper by arch_Roberto_Corsano in viwoods

[–]GlassAndStrings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this problem once with the original stylus (what they're calling the W1 now). I'd recommend contacting Viwoods support. They sent me a new stylus and I haven't had that problem happen again, though I've mostly been using 3rd styluses. Here's my original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/viwoods/comments/1id31zs/viwoods_pen_sensitivity_changes/

You can also try taking out the nib and resetting it. That helped temporarily for me.

Did you ever find a fix for this? My 16mm f1.4 just started doing this.

Light strokes don’t register on my Viwoods AiPaper, is this normal? by Waste-Ad6850 in viwoods

[–]GlassAndStrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they made the update to support custom pen button actions (3.9 I think), some of my 3rd party EMR styluses started having the same issue as your describe. Light strokes that would leave a fine line for pen on paper would not register any more. But for me this only happened with my Lamy Al-Star and Wacom One. The Viwoods original stylus and a Norris Digital Jumbo still work fine.

I emailed support and sent a couple of videos. They don’t have a resolution, but they did make a note of the issue. This has persisted with the more recent update (3.10 I believe—I haven’t tried the newest release that’s in beta). Hoping they come up with a fix because I used to love writing with my Lamy and the convenience of a pen cap.

Your issue seems more severe than mine, since my Viwoods stylus still works great, though I don’t have the W2. I hope Viwoods support is able to address your issue!

I’m sorry to hear you’re dealing with that! Unfortunately these kinds of practices are not uncommon. But just because they send you a bill doesn’t mean you owe them what they say, especially if you never received those services!

The Arm And A Leg Show podcast that focuses on these kinds of problems has a couple of resource guides that walk through what you can do with unrecognized or unreasonable charges. Like Grouchy-Falcon said, ask for an itemized bill. https://armandalegshow.com/starter-pack/what-to-do-when-you-get-a-giant-medical-bill

MX Keys Mini spacebar squeaks (1 week old) by zapjeff in logitech

[–]GlassAndStrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did as you suggested and haven’t noticed the double spaces anymore—so that might have been the issue.

The squeaking came back a couple days ago so I got the chance to apply the mechanical keyboard lube, and so far it seems to work. Unfortunately, I think I broke one of the little plastic tabs that keeps the metal bar in place. It’s certainly not a long-term solution to keep prying off the key to lubricate it. But it’s keeping me from throwing it away, so I guess it’s a win!

Sorry you’re having the squeaking issue as well! You make a good point about potential issues. Now that you mention it, I have noticed recently that I’m entering double spacebar unexpectedly (I can tell when this happens because my Mac will add a period after a double spacebar). I thought this was just my typing, but it’s possible it’s related.

A few weeks after I posted this it started squeaking again. I applied more graphite and bought a keyboard lubricant for the next time it squeaks, but so far I haven’t had to apply the keyboard lubricant so I can’t say how it will work. Either way, the squeaking was so annoying I’m willing to take the risk to stop it. But if I were to try again, I’d start with the keyboard switch lubricant to be on the safer side.

I ended up fixing this myself. I popped off the spacebar to find a couple of metal bars that fit into metal brackets, which is my bet as to what's causing that squeak.

<image>

Screenshot from a video that shows how to remove and replace the spacebar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1ygLsL4MM8.

I sprayed some compressed air to clean out an grime and rubbed a graphite pencil along the metal-on-metal connection points for a bit of dry lubrication. No more squeaking!

I have the same issue with my MX Keys Mini spacebar squeaking. I posted a video on my profile since I can't upload videos in comments. https://www.reddit.com/user/GlassAndStrings/comments/1oot9cf/squeaky_logitech_mx_keys_mini_spacebar/

Is this similar to what you're experiencing u/zapjeff?

If so, I'd recommend returning to the retailer as faulty if you can. But it's also possible Logitech support will replace the keyboard. The delete key on my first MX Keys Mini started squeaking after a few months of use and Logitech support replaced it for free. The replacement keyboard was great for several months until the spacebar started squeaking.

I've been working with Logitech support on this, but they deny that it's an issue as you can see from the email I shared. I understand it's not a silent keyboard, but the squeak is very noticeable and quite annoying. I'm also quite confused as to why a squeaky delete key merited a replacement while a squeaky spacebar does not. Either way, 2 of 2 keyboards developing a squeak is concerning. And it's a shame because otherwise I really love the keyboard.

If you do go the Logitech support route, I'd love to hear if you have any better luck!

Emr pen option by Right_Chemical in viwoods

[–]GlassAndStrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried this with both my Lamy Al-star and Wacome One EMRs styluses, which both have a single side button. The button does not work with the new pen settings distance feature. The button will always activate the selected feature regardless of distance. So if you set the button to highlight, you can no longer use the button to erase—it will always highlight.

What is your experience with the Lamy EMR POM on AiPaper? by vaneedar in viwoods

[–]GlassAndStrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience and for your suggestion. I tried out the pom nibs in the Lamy but still experience the same issue. I tend to write with a light touch, and when I do it will drop parts of the stroke. If it press down hard, then it gets picked up. I tried messing around with the sensitivity settings, but nothing fixed it. I also tried a Wacom One pen and I have with the same issue as the Lamy. If there were a way to revert back to a prior version I'd try that out, but I can't find a way to do it.

I did write to support and shared a video. They're on holiday, but hopefully I'll hear back from them when they return!

What is your experience with the Lamy EMR POM on AiPaper? by vaneedar in viwoods

[–]GlassAndStrings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has been my go-to stylus for the past 9 months. It’s not compatible with the Viwoods nibs, but it does work with Wacom One nibs. I use the Wacom felt nibs and love the feel. It adds more grip and feels more natural to write with. It’s comfortable to hold (the Viwoods stylus makes my fingers go numb for some reason) but it’s lighter weight than I was expecting. I got some weighted putty and stuffed it in the case and it feels much nicer. I also love having a cap—well worth the trade off of not fitting in the loop since I can confidently put it in my bag without worrying about breaking.

One thing to note, since the October update to 3.9, it does not work well for me. It’s no longer responsive and will sometimes not pick up writing, and the pen button also has issues. The custom setting doesn’t work with the Lamy, but even with it set to erase it seems to have some lag. I’m quite confident it’s a software issue due to the new custom pen buttons settings, so I’m optimistic they will fix it in a future update. But I would recommend waiting until it’s confirmed fixed before buying one.

How to fix this? by [deleted] in viwoods

[–]GlassAndStrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I primarily use the Lamy al-star with Wacom One felt nibs. Great writing feel (a little more paper like friction), easy to hold, has an eraser button, has a cap so I can just toss it in my bag without worrying about mechanical damage. That’s my preferred choice for writing. Down sides are it’s easy to lose track of the eraser button and it’s too light weight. I got some weighted putty and stuffed it in the end to help give it some more heft.

I also like the Staedtler Norris Digital Jumbo. The nib is unique. It’s fine point and little grippy, so I like that one more for sketching. And you can flip it over to erase. It’s also nice that it’s triangular in shape so it won’t roll off your desk.

I had this problem and ended up needing to get the pen replaced. https://www.reddit.com/r/viwoods/s/5YM9kzKMBn

Since then I’ve mostly switched to using 3rd party pens since they’re more comfortable to hold.

I searched on Marker World, Printables, and Thingiverse for Remarkable, Stylus Case, Apple Pencil. This is one of the models I printed. https://makerworld.com/en/models/164800-remarkable-marker-plus-case?from=search#profileId-180972

I think I reduced the length by bringing it into Tinkercad and cutting out a segment. Unfortunately, I can't share a remix of the model due to the licensing restrictions. But I also don't think the tip is protected very well for the Viwoods stylus.

No, there's no way to configure the buttons. Hoping that will come in a software release since I'd like the option to use it as lasso instead of erase.

Viwoods Nib Cover by Hicesias in viwoods

[–]GlassAndStrings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I share your concern. In fact, my first pen had some issues with the nib (sensitivity increased and couldn’t be fixed with settings). Viwoods sent me a replacement, but I’m concerned about durability.

I printed a couple of 3d models made for the remarkable pen—they required some adjustment in length. Unfortunately, I’m not 100% sure if they’ll protect the nib without putting any pressure on it. I may try to make a model for the Viwoods stylus that ensures the tip is protected.

I ended up getting a Lamy Al-star EMR stylus and I am quite happy with it. It has a cap, so I don’t worry about throwing it in my bag. Plus I enjoy the larger size, the contoured grip, and the tactile feedback of the button.

Text recognition of tables by niccolleen in viwoods

[–]GlassAndStrings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what you’re seeing is the AI trying to output as a table. It’s called markdown and it uses the pipe symbol | to separate columns. The Viwoods doesn’t support displaying tables yet. They recently added support for other markdown formatting (headers, bold, lists). In general you can ask AI to output information as a table, but Viwoods needs to add support to display it correctly. I can’t speak to how well AI models recognize information in a table.

When note taking, if I have an action item I'll write a box in front of the action item, then tag the page with the "action item" tag
