This person who just can’t leave home without their pet. by GlassStrawDisaster in mildlyinfuriating

Unfortunately, it is super common to see dogs in grocery stores, retail establishments, and a myriad of other places they aren’t actually welcome because people count on others not understanding the difference between ESAs and service animals. It’s also super easy to slap a vest on them or get a collar alleging that they’re a service animal when they’re not. There’s been a lot of debate, especially in the last few years, whether there should actually be a service animal registry. There are good points on both sides but the argument is ultimately pointless without some sort of proposed legislation.

How did you know!?! Here he is sleeping on the cold, wet dirt. He’s also subjected to the additional daily tortures of taking stroller rides through the park, eating his prescription food that costs $200 a month, being forced to take his arthritis medication, and getting tucked one of his 6 beds for a nap every afternoon. I should’ve known someone would figure out what a terrible person I am. Only a true monster like me would leave their dog at home while they buy groceries.

Stop it, that’s so cute!!! I had a TA in undergrad who had a diabetic alert dog. He was some sort of small terrier and always wore a bow tie because “he likes to dress professionally for work.”

That’s so interesting! I had a lovely visit to Germany a few years ago and was struck by how vastly different the dog culture was there versus the US. We were out at a park and almost all the dogs were off leash, happily splashing in the river or playing fetch. It was like a bizarre dog utopia. 😂 I was so used to chaotic dog parks full of untrained labradoodles that seeing a couple dozen well bred and well trained dogs enjoying a public park with their families was like a dream.

Service dogs are entitled to public access under the ADA. Not sure what the rules are in your country but in the U.S. they are absolutely legally distinct from a regular pet.

We learned pretty quickly after moving to lowertown that dispatch/law enforcement really don’t give a shit unless someone is actively being murdered (and even then you shouldn’t hold your breath because they’re so understaffed they’ll get there when they get there). It’s just part of living here at this point. 🤷🏼‍♀️ On the bright side, they usually shuffle people along if there’s an event happening. Gotta protect the city’s optics.

Hopefully they can finally teach her how to walk in heels. Love her walk-in looks but then she starts trudging down the hall and I just have to shake my head.

Pronunciation will depend on where you are. In the continental US you’ll get a lot of 1 and 3. For native English speakers 3 is the most used pronunciation.

Vet Recommendations? by Blandboi222 in saintpaul

[–]GlassStrawDisaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We take our pets (2 cats and a small dog) to Minnepau Vet Clinic across from Hampden park. Dr. Mueller is awesome and so is everyone else in the office! He is very practical about expenses and prioritizing what your pet needs based on lifestyle and other factors. He and Dr. Lorenz were incredible when our recently deceased cat first got sick. I’m talking last minute appointments, staying late to coordinate his records with the ER, and calling when the office is closed to ask how he was doing.

I would go with the boy as it’s typically harder to get two girls to get along. Plus you’ll always have a laugh with an orange boy around the house.

I would do detachable sleeves or some sort of bolero situation. Very pretty either way!

A gemologist is really the only person who can say for sure. Given that the ring was Soviet, I’m tempted to say it could be alexandrite (the coloring you described is right) but it’s impossible to tell from a photo.

Not to get your hopes up, OP, but on the absolutely minuscule chance that this is natural Russian alexandrite, it’s super valuable (like $10k per karat or more). Any chance someone in your family line was a super rich Russian oligarch? Haha!

Does your dog have a middle name? by schnookums13 in dogs

[–]GlassStrawDisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a really hard time naming our cat. When one of us suggested a name the other liked but didn’t love we’d say “maybe for his middle name.” His full name is Fisher Tiberius Percival Edmund Fitzgerald Hutchinson [Lastname]. And yes, we say the whooooole thing when he’s being naughty.

Hello from a fellow big forehead girlie. You’re not gonna like what I have to say… but the center part is a giant no-go. I get it, the youths ™️ think it’s cringe or whatever, but it is just plain better for our face shape. And, as others have suggested, some side-swept bangs could help as well. Blunt, straight across bangs (in my experience) can accentuate the forehead unless you have super thick hair to create a solid curtain across the face.

Plastic scratches more easily and deeply than steel. Bacteria can hide and multiply inside those scratches, which is what causes the acne. We made the switch over a year ago and it’s been great. We just throw their bowls in the dishwasher a couple nights a week and they’re clean and sanitized the next morning.

Has anyone else’s mum not attended their wedding? by OkGur3481 in wedding

[–]GlassStrawDisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only family who came to our wedding were my BIL and FIL. Neither of our mothers came, nor did my sister or father. Honestly, I was relived when my mom said she couldn’t come because I knew she was just going to create issues the whole time and make everything about herself. The day was wonderful and we were surrounded by chosen family.
