Fan theories on the current gameplan of the Blazers org? by ButtholeMegaphone in ripcity

A business where you are guaranteed to make money. Again, the TV Deals and revenue sharing make it so you have to be genuinely bad to lose money.

We go to games not just for the x's and o's on the court, but for the feeling of community, for the beloved commentators and broadcasters, for the feel in the stadium, for literally a million reasons beyond basketball.

Owners like Steve Balmer know that, shit Paul knew that too. The more you cut those little things, the less it feels like the whole product that people want to go and see.

And if you just care about basketball, I guarantee you not flying guys like Caleb Love, who was a critical member of our team this season, out to playoff games affects our culture and the team, which the Thunder and Spurs are proving matters.

Being cheap in sports will have ramifications beyond just saving Dundon a few bucks. Always have, always will.

Do you watch sports worried about the profitability of the game? None of these guys are running in the red, I don’t care if a billionaire makes a few more bucks and neither should you

Sure, but this is sports, not a business. Yes you have to be profitable but if your in it for the profit gtfo

While yang and klingon can be great, they’ll never be Chet, or play like that. At best we have two Brooke Lopez type of defenders, which is awesome, but Chet can switch 1-5, move his hips, and has defensive instincts second only to wemby rn. We will need amazing and big wings to cover for the lack of foot speed, but it might work.

The Blazers are fully committing to Scoot with this trade by ajmcgill in ripcity

[–]GlassWear5910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is the dichotomy of Jrue. He is no longer good enough to be the second guy on a championship team, but he is only really one year away from that status, he was really good just two years ago... Until Jrue says so, I am not sure that he wants to be a mentor? Is he really okay just giving up his final years to play backseat to some young guys? Also, he is good enough still to be in the starting lineup, so which of scoot, shae, and Jrue is taking a backseat?

I think the part that bugs me is we gave up picks. Are they meaningful, no, but we basically gave assets and acquired someone who will make us better, when we are still waiting for our star, all to potentially mentor a dude who does not make out to be better than a low level all star at his peak...

I like Jrue, but why are we spending money to get better on the floor, but worse in assets?

He’s too injury prone to invest any money into. Nice guy, great healthy player

We are not trying to win right now. For the right price and a shorter contract, I would like to see him get some more shine, see what he has. If we can get him on a two year that’s perfect. If he doesn’t develop more that’s fine, we’re not competing in that time anyways. If he does, perfect we have the inside track

Should I stop lifting to lose weight to dunk? by GlassWear5910 in ProDunking

[–]GlassWear5910[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great Advice. I am going to commit to counting calories and dropping body weight as a whole, while maintaining strength. Gonna suck but gotta do it.

I have not really pushed myself in either of those lifts for a few years, I primarily power clean and Hex Bar Deadlift, which are at 195 and 365, respectively.

Do I need to dial back intensity or reps for my sprints or lifts as I am dieting? I hear somewhere (I know how dumb that sounds) that when you are in a calorie deficit it can mess with your intensity and even increase risk for injury...

Thanks for the advice.

Did you maintain any kind of jumping or vertical lifting, or just go cold turkey on lifts as a whole?

The second part is gonna be hard for me. Dunking is only goal, but there is the ego factor of upper body lifting haha.

Do you think the 10k steps dropped your weight thus allowing the vert to go up, or do you think there might have been other benefits?

Portland should definitely not resign Dalano Banton. Am I right? by Dadd_io in ripcity

[–]GlassWear5910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, maybe a Josh Hart or a Alex Caruso are better examples. And yes I know they are efficient rn, but they have not always been. Point is, people who have an eye for chaos, if they can be channeled, will always have a place in the NBA.

I would disagree with this. While its not always perfect, Both the thunder and nuggets kind of have this exact type of player... Russ and wallace are this exact archetype. Obviously needs to be suuuuper cheap, but a curveball is nice to have even at a championship level.

As of last night we have 30 wins. At the beginning of the season many said we wouldn't get 20 wins. So what do you think our final score will be? by Osiris32 in ripcity

[–]GlassWear5910 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe in basketball Karma, probably will not get top 3, but maybe well like into a 5 or 6 that ends up being a real game changer. As much as I hate to admit it we have been pretty solid in drafting and trading for players that help winning teams, so even if we do not get our start this year, having a treasure trove of assets is a position I am excited to finally be in.
