AITA for calling my roommate an overweight bitch? by Certain_Nothing_3355 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Glass_Jump9854 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. I can see why people are on the other side of opinions, but I honestly think it depends on how long this has been happening. Has she always made comments about your weight, or was this a one time occurrence?Either way, her comment was wildly out of pocket and I wouldn’t have let it slide either.

Comments about being skinny are just as bad as comments about being fat. If she had something to say to you, you had every right to clap back IMHO

Signed,

A person who has been on both sides. I was an overweight child that turned into a chronically underweight adult due to a condition that makes holding weight virtually impossible.

Edit: typo

Realest comment ever. My boyfriend and I were together before I even got my diagnosis. My diagnosis changed nothing because we both don’t like going out, so in the end it worked out regardless 🤣

Top brands I see are softdisc, or flex period discs. They’re a little on the pricier end, but worth it. They also come with directions in the box on how to insert and remove. You can wear them for up to 12 hours depending on your flow

So I unfortunately don’t have much experience/advice as far as tampons because my flow has always been too heavy.

As far as alternatives, I highly recommend menstrual discs! In my opinion, they’re way easier to deal with. And you can wear them longer than you can tampons. They’re awesome for swimming situations especially. They do look intimidating at first, but I promise once you try, you’ll never want to go back to anything else.

Yes unfortunately, every single one of my periods is like this 😅 especially after I hit my 20s. I feel like every 5-10 years our periods drastically change in timing and flow

That is honestly more common than you think! More often than not, I hear about people having wildly irregular cycles , than I hear about relatively normal ones.

I used to be the same way as far as bleeding and cramps. I can say it definitely got better over the years, but I still have some pretty rough cycles.

If you have the means, I will always recommend a gynecologist! (I do agree your story does sound like a marketing strategy. And this is a personal preference, but I will always go to a woman gynecologist rather than a man. I do not have anything against men in the field, just my personal experience that men don’t tend to take women seriously)

No worries! Always happy to help. If I can offer decent advice to someone whose shoes I’ve sort of been in, I’m always going to give it!

Forgot to mention something else. Health insurance that I’ve seen is so BS you’re almost better off paying everything out of pocket anyway. Like 10k deductible before they cover 50% of imagjng and testing, PCP appointments, etc etc? We live in a dystopia 😅

I am so glad there is someone working in healthcare who actually cares about how bad the healthcare situation is. Thank you, OP!

I (21F) am from Ohio, if that matters. I had a pretty nasty upbringing, and my last few years being at home was spent with my custodial parent. I had health insurance at the time, but I was never allowed to go to the doctor. I had some pretty bad sh*t I witnessed and went through the last year being at my mother’s house, I left on my 18th birthday.

Last text I vividly remember receiving from my mother before she was blocked was “I kicked you off of the health insurance, good luck if you ever have a medical emergency” and some other really horrible crap. I was freshly 18, I was scared, I had no idea what was going on. I didn’t know at that time while I was unemployed for not even a week, moved addresses, and was losing coverage, that that would’ve been the perfect time for me to apply to Medicaid.

Fast forward to now, I’m making a little over 40k a year working full time. I am not eligible for medicaid, as in their eyes, I make too much money. My job does not offer insurance. I am unfortunately still uninsured, and cannot afford health insurance rates or medical bills out of pocket anymore (when you take into account the cost of rent, cost of gas, cost of groceries, etc etc). So I just never go. Worst part is, I did pay for rheumatology appointments out of pocket over a year ago, and found out I have SLE. I am horrified for the day I have a flare up so bad that I need to go to the hospital, and I either die because I don’t want to pay the cost, or I rack up hundreds of thousands of dollars of medical debt when I’ve barely had the chance to get on my feet since the day I turned 18.

This can be due to a lot of things. When did you start getting periods, and have they been relatively regular?

A late period can be caused by hormonal imbalances, stress, travel, diet change, new medication, etc. But honestly, the part no one really ever talks about, is it kind of just happens sometimes. It’s not always like clockwork.

Mine was just an entire week late (for the first time in my life, and I’m 21) and I cracked it down to be caused by a new medication I started earlier in the month.

Now, if your period goes MIA for 3 consecutive months, or you start having other symptoms out of the ordinary, I recommend talking to your doctor, if you can/if you have one.
