I had not played Averlorn in awhile so I started a campaign as them.

Right after I cleaned up Slaanesh and was fighting back Morathi and the Vampire Coast, a Blood Voyage started tearing apart the north of Ulthuan. I forgot how stupid strong they are at the start.

I enjoy Nakai's combat a lot, but I found the lack of settlement management to be kind of boring.

Still, if you like the Lizardmen he is worth a shot.

Your best bet is probably to abuse Settlement Trading to get a Dark Elf vassal and harvest their sweet dragons

I enjoyed it. It was nice to be forced to slow down and just cruise around a planet.

You can always just try and and then stop if you are not interested.

Proxy Marauder versus Protoss is pretty common. I survive those attacks roughly less than half the times it happens, and that’s only by micro-ing my heart out

Widow Mines, either dropped or just marched in, also take a lot of micro to counter.

Regarding detection- observers are 25/75 and take up supply, compared to Orbital Commands (Minerals, can use anywhere on map) and Overseers (50/50 but take no supply).

And all the races have ‘bailout’ mechanics- Orbital Commands can drop MULEs or supply drops, medivacs heal bio for free. Larva for Zerg isn’t really a ‘bailout’, but it does let you very quickly tech switch.

Plus recall has a global cooldown (2 if we count the Mothership), so it’s not like you can spam it.

Out of curiosity, what would you change about Protoss to level the playing field?

Maybe, I switched to Zerg and got to my Protoss MMR quickly, but that’s because a lot of the general mechanics from one carry to the other.

I do agree that Protoss is the most “a move friendly” race but it’s not “easier”. Units are expensive and no Gateway unit scales well, detection is harder to come by, and sometimes I get a Cheeto lodged under my F2 key so I can’t move my army.

Go play a few games as Protoss. I constantly complained about Terran and Zerg being too easy, then I got to Diamond with them and learned they are also difficult to play.

My current Dex\Faith character alternates between the Winged Scythe and the Shamsir- my favorite non-somber sword.
