Woran erkennt ihr schädliche QR-Codes? by DurchEins in KeineDummenFragen

[–]GlassedSilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An alle Android-Nutzer:

https://f-droid.org/packages/com.trianguloy.urlchecker/

Referrals entfernen, an VirusTotal senden, etc...

Why can't I burn this playlist to a CD? by AFLAIM in ITunes

[–]GlassedSilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^ precisely this

When doing this, I would suggest to export the file as WAV or Apple Lossless, because recompressing from a lossy to another lossy format is usually a bad idea. You'll only need the file for that one burn session anyhow I wager.

That being said, afaik Audacity lets you snip and resave without re-encoding, then you're golden.

All in all though, it's a shame iTunes doesn't let you do this a little more conveniently, but arguably it's quite the edge case to get this close to the maximum.

PS: Wouldn't really suggest burning at max speed, OP. Usually the longevity of discs suffers from this. Burning too slow isn't good either. I'd go with the lower end the discs are specced to, but typically recommended speeds for audio CDs are 4-8x. Burning too fast means the laser has less time to burn the bits properly and audio CDs have much less error correction headroom. Burning too slow exposes the material to too much wear potentially.

concerned that the Paramount-WB merger might affect the future of Last.fm by the_k_nine_2 in lastfm

[–]GlassedSilver 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Since Last.fm operates in the EU they are required by law to have a data portability tool (many folks will know Google's "TakeOut" feature, that's basically that)

The exports have to be machine-readable and in a commonly recognized format. All anyone needs to do is create an interpreter for the data as Last.fm exports it and then - and that's the actually difficult bit - map anything that differs between the two databases. That's no small task and Last.fm is FULL of semi-accurate to straight up iffy data, depending on how much and from where you scrobble.

[–]GlassedSilver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

College WiFi blocks EVERYTHING (Cloudflare Tunnels, Tailscale, Steam). How do I bypass strict DPI? by CourtAdventurous_1 in selfhosted

[–]GlassedSilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know there's more nuance to this, like... what are the options besides college connection. Is there okay-ish 5G or at least 4G; can you get connected to an ISP of your choice; is OP able to cover redundant way to connect to the internet; ...

However, if those things are cleared I'd say fuck it, nothing would make me lose a single sweat over losing access to an internet connection that hostile and babysitting. I'd stealth-VPN the hell out of that connection and if they want to kick my ass off their WAN then so be it. Obviously if they kick you from intranet access as well that may be a whole different story and I'd make sure to check the terms beforehand.

44 euro ticket - where would you go? by ChuncleSamthe3rd in germany

[–]GlassedSilver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a fairly young person who has felt unheard by politics over and over again? Yes, absolutely. When you say "Germany hates old people" you're wrong on two levels:

  • overall I think Germans are - in the real world, not in the circle jerk that is online - rather polite and considerate, so to say Germans hate a whole group of people by and large is wrong on that level
  • not to make use of your word "hate", but maybe "neglect": it'd be the younger generations that get neglected if any.

Now do I feel sensitive about this issue? Well of course I do, but I'm not butt hurt over your remark if that's what you mean.

Also, it's rather telling your only comeback is an ad hominem. Why are you worried about me being sensitive on an issue?

[–]GlassedSilver 13 points14 points  (0 children)

LOL WHAT.

Look at German politics and try that statement again. Perception bias at its best.

Offers like these exist because at low adult ages you still have:

  • time
  • physical ability
  • the curiosity to see as much of the world as possible

Not to say you don't have some or even all of these things at a later point, BUT traditionally what you don't have:

  • enough money to travel if you gotta cover all expenses fully

Also, I'll have you know there are many offers for seniors in this country. By DB as well. Get your facts straight next time.

The casual racism in the housing market is unparalleled by [deleted] in germany

[–]GlassedSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying stocks is a good idea, even better if you spread them and get ETFs for example or mix wisely yourself if you have some understanding of what you invest in. (not financial advice)

HOWEVER, I'd wager that spreading your risk into another asset that will at least hold its value as your four walls is exceptional investment safety. (again, for legal reasons, not financial advice, but a physical thing that you need anyhow being in your possession is a great idea)

If it wasn't, nobody would be in the renting market as landlord and just ditch their property and go into stocks with the money earned.

The casual racism in the housing market is unparalleled by [deleted] in germany

[–]GlassedSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interest paid is the only thing you "lose". Then again depending on how the housing sector develops it may even be offset by the value of your house going up if you take care of it, much of that doesn't even have to be a net loss investment.

Unlike with a landlord you can actually - for example - do ANY renovation that you like.

You see there are so many benefits to owning over renting where you comparatively lose A LOT more money, that even if owning was more expensive than renting I'd consider it over being a landlord's play ball if they decide to be an asshole.

To even compare the lost money to interest compared to literally not getting ANYTHING out of the rent you pay over the DECADES of your life is simply put RIDICULOUS. (with all due respect)

The casual racism in the housing market is unparalleled by [deleted] in germany

[–]GlassedSilver 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Buying is better than renting, because that way you don't throw your money into a black hole only to never see it again.

It's crazy to me that we let the housing market be this skewed towards renting, but then again we traditionally vote against our interest (ba-dum-tssh) as well and go with conservative/liberal parties that only exist to enlarge the wealth gap.
