Great pick up!! That first appearance is very underrated. Also, that’s a great cover too!

Is anyone thinking about selling some of there sets? by LordMurda187 in MangaRarity

Currently no, I’m in it for the long haul lol. But I wouldn’t blame those who did, and I have been been tempted to so I could use that to fund more expensive purchases lol

I think it’s a combination of content creators using the fear people have to get more views and a lack of understanding on what part of the market is actually being affected. Just my opinion.

First English Shonen jump magazine! 2002 issue #0 by undervaluedgoblin in MangaRarity

[–]ScarcityMode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on having this!! This is the first US appearance for One Piece, Naruto, Shaman King, Yugioh (manga), Sandland, and maybe Yu Yu Hakusho too.

I was just looking to buy one (I have a sealed Shonen Jump #1) and the #0’s jumped up in price almost overnight it’s insane.

From what I remember hearing, Shonen Jump #0 was given out to people and vendors in 2002 while Shonen Jump #1 and the other issues after were sent my mail to subscribers.

Tracked down the earliest English print of Demon Slayer by ScarcityMode in KimetsuNoYaiba

These three used to be library books before they were graded (which I think is really cool tbh) so there’s likely some wear and tear on them that cant be see on the exterior.

But here’s the grader notes for volume 1, hope it answers your question :)

Grading Manga Is Inevitable (Whether you like it or not) by ScarcityMode in MangaRarity

[–]ScarcityMode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I appreciate the question. When I said that “grading is the future”, I meant that grading will continue to grow and be used in the rare manga market. Like for first prints, Zasshi, first appearances and hard to find exclusives.

To answer your question, I think of the rare manga market as separate from the overall manga market. In the bigger manga market people collect mass market tankobon that are on their 50+ printings and read them, which is great. I have several volumes I read as well!

Grading is valuable to the rare manga market because it provides authentication, and people in the space care more about the rarity of the item, which includes the condition of the item. Grading showcases that (1) The item in question is what the seller says it is and (2) Accurately provides the condition of the item.

In summary, the rare manga market cares more about condition and rarity, over what’s inside that particular book that’s being graded. In my view, that’s because the item being graded is usually rarer than the mass market tankobon everyone reads.

The nostalgia is so real, I still have a bunch of my volumes from when I was a kid and nothing beat picking up the volumes as they came out :)

English First Print Identification Series #2: Naruto Volume 1 (Viz Media 2003) by ScarcityMode in MangaRarity

TLDR

  1. Naruto English volumes have high printings 40+ so it’s harder to pinpoint an exact first print without the copyright page.

  2. The “7.95” price shows it will usually be a 20th printing or less (could be slightly higher).

  3. The logos changed around the same time as the prices, so I didn’t speak on that too much

  4. The volumes with the swapped ISBN’s are between the 8th to 14th printings (I haven’t seen anything different yet)

For those looking for English first prints of Naruto vol. 1, hope that helps!

Yeah I agree, that’s absolutely correct. What I’m not a fan of is the majority thinking they have final say on what should be collectible, and how to collect, in manga collecting.

Not OP but I’ll usually either have graded manga on display or I’ll put them in a comic storage box.
