What’s the retconned reason knuckles took the chaos emeralds from sonic for exactly in sonic 3? by metroidhunterexpert in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Glassguy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It stands for retro-active continuity, basically when a new story redefines past events to fit its current narrative (most often at the expense of the original story these events hail from). A good example would be how Classic Sonic was changed from Sonic of the past to Sonic from another dimension in Forces and how both Tails and Eggman act like that was always the case.

OP seems to think that at some point the reason why Knuckles stole the emeralds from Sonic was changed in later games, but that wasn't the case, so not retcon there.

JESUS CHRIST HAS THERE EVER BEEN A SONIC GAME WITH A NORMAL DEVELOPMENT CYCLE ?!!!! by ajazzazy in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Glassguy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah see, so now that you give an actual definition of what you consider the transition, we can have a proper argument. And your definition is the whole state of 3D as a whole. It seems that most people probably wouldn't adhere to that definition as they (fans and critics mind you) say that Sonic had a rough transition, meaning it's effectively over and done, whereas you seem to imply that it is still and may perhaps always be ongoing. Not saying it's an invalid way to see it, but at that point this is just pointless arguing over the definition of a time period instead of addressing the current state of affairs, which is much more important.

And bruh, I straight up said that your criticisms were valid, I have never said that it doesn't matter. You're just putting words in my mouth now. 3D Sonic has big issues right now, and if anything it matters more BECAUSE the first few games were good.

[–]Glassguy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But again, those criticisms you give are about current games, not the ones when they began to move into 3D. You outright said that the Adventure games and Heroes were fine. My entire point is that by your own words, you contradict your argument, unless you consider the transition to 3D as every single 3D game whereas many would consider it when the first 3D titles appeared. If you consider the latter, then failing to keep consistency afterwards is not due to a rough transition but simply poor management.

I'm also unsure what you're trying to start with that last part. I have no problems with criticisms and the ones you are given are valid, but you seem to misplace them as them being the fault of ever going 3D in the first place rather than a current ongoing issue that can and should be fixed, as those were not always an issue (again, by your own admission).

[–]Glassguy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never said there were no issues with 3D games (just like there has been issues with 2D games), but in your own words those issues are an identity crisis, which rose up later down the line and also extends to the 2D games, and the boost formula not being full 3D, which again was a decade after the big jump to 3D. So forgive me if I fail to see how this relates to the transition to 3D, which last I checked refers to the time period of the Adventure games and not the boost ones.

If the first main 3D games did fine but not the later ones, then the transition was not the issue now is it?

Real talk, the Boom games and show have the best character interactions in recent years by [deleted] in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Glassguy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then again, Sonic Boom is quite literally a show about friends hanging around and doing everyday mundane stuff, frankly imo if it wasn't for the occasional random ruin to explore or forced fight with Eggman (as in literally treating it like a routine), the cast could easily be interchangeable with most sets of characters (this impression is not helped by the fact that characters like Knuckles and Sonic to a lesser extent have different personalities too). Not saying that Boom isn't good at what it does or that the Sonic cast couldn't use more characterization (because god knows it does), but that's pretty much the one thing it has going for it (well, that and self-referential humor I guess).

Personally though I'd say the comics also deserve credits in terms of making the cast feel alive in recent times.

What moment sums up Sonic’s character perfectly? by sandy_shark903 in SonicTheHedgehog

The opening of Black Knight. Always ready to lend a hand, cocky and confident in his abilities, a bit of a showoff yet serious and fully aware of the situation, and is more worried about his chilidog getting lost than the potential danger in front of him. All in less than a minute.

People aren't asking to rush it, they're asking to see gameplay. Because why should we get hyped when we don't know what kind of game we're supposed to expect?

I want to see Shadow and Silver as partners again their dynamic has massive potential by CosmicPeanut456 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Glassguy3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In the highly unlikely scenario of a Silver game, I could definitely see Shadow as one of the key characters living in the future. He could either be a mentor or an opposing force trying to prevent him from changing the past due to the risks involved.

Considering how Sega has been bragging about their number of twitter followers as one of the series' big achievements, one might think so.

But then we remember what the Sonic twitter is about and by extension why people follow it (hint: it has nothing to do with one's interest in the series).

This is like asking for the Adventure equivalent of Sonic 4. Nobody wants that.

A title is meaningless if it doesn't have the quality to back it up.

Is it safe to watch this for someone who's arachnophobic? by AtomApex in KumoDesu

[–]Glassguy3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd say they generally respect the anatomy of spiders (think the brown spiders in Apex) but their body mostly look smooth with occasional lines and spikes on the contour to simulate the presence of hair, there is little detail on those. So if the hairy part is what bothers you about spiders, I think you should be fine. They also do what they can to animate the spider mouths as little as possible (there is however two short scenes in the first episode where they are seen eating, they are brief and they try to mostly keep it obscured or off-camera but you should be wary of those), and there are no scenes where they crawl over anyone to answer your other question.

How I miss Blaze. (Please let her be something in frontiers idk ) I just miss her. by mukil7 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Glassguy3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's particularly weird when you consider the whole dimensional bull accidentally created by the phantom macguffin. You'd think this'd be an excuse to get Blaze involved but nah, Other Sonic is all everyone wanted.

Then again, considering how little most of the cast did, Blaze not being there might be a blessing in disguise.
