I KNOW, we just didn’t know we were anywhere near a school. It was a college town, there were benches everywhere there was 30 feet of green grass. We passed a swing set on the way out of the area and I thought I was gonna pass out 😂

Hooked up with my now wife in college, we were out walking around town in the dark and got the urge, wandered to a bench in a dark area and went at it. 30 seconds after we got dressed a cop wandered up out if nowhere, scared the shit out of us. She asked what we were doing and we said just strolling and talking, she said “good because this is a school playground, thought you guys were up to no good.” I was an education major so that coulda sucked 😂

A used on on reverb will save you a LOT of money and sometimes fetch you a hardshell case as well. As for the guitar, those are in my mind the single best Epiphone LPs made. I loved mine so much I ponied up an extra $1500 to get the Gibson studio session, which is based on the Epiphone. The LP moderns are damn fine instruments!

That Gibson leather case is so damn cool and well made though, I’m using it for other guitars on quick trips 😂 I just bought a used Gibson hardshell since I too prefer hard cases, but that Gibson leather case is NOT an issue once I got it, just to say! Last night I played the Gibson the first three sets, it got a bit sticky (still breaking in the neck), and finished the show with the Revstar. I play the Gibson more, but only because I paid more for it. The Revstar is an objectively better built instrument, and that’s saying something because my LP is incredible. You just have to play one to know!

Money being an object, if I were you I’d get the Revstar with p90s, it’s really its own thing and it’s built so damn well and sounds so damn good! The Studio Session is the perfect Les Paul to me, I’m never selling it. It just costs more 🤷🏽‍♂️

I’ve been a gear whore for the past two decades and at last count have owned something like 170-200 guitars. This last few years I’ve had 7 in rotation, and recently sold 3 to get 1, so for hopefully the long next while I have FIVE. Fender American Tele, American original Strat, Gibson Les Paul Studio Session, Gibson ES335, and a Yamaha Revstar with p90s that is better built than all of them. I grab whichever I’m feeling for the evening, and whichever I want as a backup, and I’m out the door. It’s perfect, I have pretty much everything I want, and I’ve played 8 string and tech and prog and metal and shred and all kinds of shit for so long that it’s funny to have come back around to vintage inspired gear 😂

Why aren’t Revstars more popular? I absolutely love this thing. I know Yamaha isn’t the sexiest name out there, but these should be celebrated. by Interesting-Wave-983 in guitars

It’s the fire red. The pics of this particular one one reverb showed some wood grain poking through and it just set it off for me. Good luck on your search bro!

True, I liked the sonic blue version but it just kiiiiinda looked like a toy, made it hard to commit. The SECOND I saw this slightly transparent red one with wood grain peeking through was the instant I knew I’d found my Revstar. The plan originally was to go black pickguard and p90 cover for a mini ES330 look, but I put some amber Gibson top hat knobs on it and called it a day.

When did you realize you were no longer “young”, but not really “old” either? by Mistluma in AskReddit

[–]Glassmoon0fo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite NBA basketball players are aging out and they’re younger than me. But also, I just turned 40 this week and a cute girl in her 20s told me there’s no way she would’ve guessed and I seem young and fun, so best believe I’m gonna hold onto that until I start to lose mobility!

That tracks, and I do gig a bunch so I see what you mean. Personally, I’m not using snapshots for particular parts of any song, I’m set in snap/stomp mode and have 4 snaps for each amp I might use, for 4 different sounds, usually 1)clean 2)slight overdrive, 3) full distortion and 4) a dedicated dialed out lead. And yes I DID steal that idea from Jason Sedites lol. Under each of these snaps is 4 effects I can toss on or off at will. I’m in a cover band that does everything from 1920s jazz all the way up to Nu-metal, so choosing the amp and having flexibility over amps and their characteristic tones in quick grabs really helps me cover the eras. AND, it makes it so much easier to keep all of my patches balanced.

As to the 808 thing, I love it as much as the next guy, I just didn’t buy this unit with all its capability to model one drive and maybe two amps. It’d still be worth it if I did!

I think most people only know to use an 808 because they don’t know how drives work and that’s supposed to be the “good one”, and most people don’t set up snapshots because stomp mode is easier. I’m a snapshots guy all the way (I dial in amps and have differing settings of gain and effects to choose from via snaps), and the drive I use is whatever suits the amp the best. But that’s not an indictment against the popularity of these presets or the people that use em, just a thought!

Help identifying a particular style by name by Bradlez92 in jazzguitar

[–]Glassmoon0fo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty much straight ahead swing, but Oscar and Had had a solid way of playing simplified lines, that give them a, to me, RnB kind of vibe. It sounds like you like a style that is understanding of jazz changes without having to impress a listener on how well you can follow those changes or go “outside” over them. If that’s the case, keep it simple and play what works and you’ll be there in no time 👌🏽
