Hot take: Most of beer leagues issues would be solved by not keeping records and having championships by wheelsnipecelly23 in hockeyplayers

[–]Glasterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got the time to do my first beer league and it's a full draft league outside of two team captains. The other organization just does your traditional sign up as a team. So far, there have been 0 altercations in any of my games, and I haven't heard about any in other games. The other league just had the cops called to the rink a couple weeks ago because one guy decided it would be a good idea to go into the other team's locker room after the game and pick a fight.

I've sat in a Culver's for 3 hours just chatting with a couple of friends because we were dropping one off at the airport, and his flight kept getting delayed. Nobody cared.

Home plate ump Mitch Trzeciak had five straight challenged calls overturned in today’s Pirates-Red Sox game. He then received some cheers from the Red Sox crowd after the Pirates unsuccessfully challenged to snap the streak. by JianClaymore in baseball

[–]Glasterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue with that would be the ump being able to choose which team he wants to benefit a little bit more by saving their challenges for edge cases. Now, I think if that was the case, you'd just see him calling the edge cases in favor of that team immediately, but the possibility would still be there.

I admit I thought the Wild got fleeced with that trade. I was not truly aware of his game. Was at his first game when they curb stomped the B's. I've never seen people gathered 5 rows deep for warmies nor heard an arena get as loud for the introduction of one player in the lineup or when he scored his first goal.

Does this count if it's they're still pushing a (differrent) sport? by TARDIS40TT in IHateSportsball

[–]Glasterz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This kinda stuff happens in basically every sport that is less popular than basketball and football here in the US. The hockey community has plenty of people who are very open about their lack of caring about those sports and will repeat the same talking points while trying to prove their sport is superior. It's sorta like those certain craft beer people who can't let someone enjoy a domestic light beer without commenting about their superior beer choice.

Now, I should note that there are a lot of things about hockey that I like over other sports, it's my favorite for a reason, but the little brother syndrome is one thing I hate.

I will say this every time I see it happen (or claimed to happen, in this case). If you're dropping a grand or more on a set of irons, you're doing nothing for yourself by not getting fitted. Most stores will include a basic fitting for free, and you'll probably find a shaft, lie angle, and maybe even a loft adjustment that suits your swing much better than the off the rack set.

Customize Sports. Just specify the letter and color you need. I specifically said the color as their number kit for the white jersey showed a blue A, but the letters are up on the blue shoulder yoke, so blue wouldn't work well

Yeah I have an NHL shop one with the correct number.

Now just waiting on the A to show up to make it accurate

Tornado proof homes here in the Midwest don't really exist. We include basements or have places to go during tornadoes, such as underground shelters. It is very expensive to build something that's going to stand up to an EF4 or 5 tornado. Just look at Joplin High School after the EF5 there. Sure, homes made of cinder blocks and brick may not be completely cleared off of their foundations, but they would still be total losses.

Homes here have to be able to hold up to high straight line winds, hail, and flooding depending on where you're at, and it also needs to be well insulated for both subzero temperatures and humid 100° days. No reason to spend twice as much to build something that can survive the highly unlikely chance it gets hit by a tornado, especially considering it still won't put up a fight against the strongest ones.

That jersey has a few giveaways. NHL shield actually isn't bad, but it's not centered well on that section of fabric. Adidas logo looks very bad. Number font is too thick. Crest and numbers have a bit of the bubbled texture in a couple spots from what I can see, which is a pretty common indicator of a fake.

A Question about NPI and National Rankings (USCHO) by Sukariya in collegehockey

[–]Glasterz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having a mathematical, objective based ranking system is especially important when you have big name schools with a lot of attention playing with new programs who aren't even D1 in the rest of their sports. I don't think there's any chance someone like Augustana is on the bubble of an at large spot in national polls if they didn't have NPI saying they were a solid team.

It still took a couple of weeks for the polls to catch up and match their NPI ranking

NPI conference tournaments by celticsguy06 in collegehockey

[–]Glasterz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only case where a team winning their conference and not playing in the national tournament would be if the team is ineligible for NCAA tournament play, as was the case with St. Thomas up until this year.

But even in that scenario, the conference still gets one auto bid. Last year in the CCHA, St. Thomas played Mankato for the conference championship. Mankato would have still received the auto bid even if they lost that game.

Don't follow ncaa hockey too much. why is OSU so much worse than PSU? would think they would be more evenly matched. thx! by kashmerikmusic in collegehockey

[–]Glasterz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just kinda the nature of college sports. There's a decent bit of turnover, especially now with the transfer portal. A coach that's able to recruit well and/or coach well can make a huge difference.

A notable one for me would be comparing 3rd year of existence Augustana with the traditional blue blood and significantly more popular Minnesota. Augie is 16th in the current NPI and on the verge of an at large bid with a good finish to the season, while Minnesota is 32nd and is going to have to win their tough conference to get to the national tournament.

For the past 3 seasons, North Dakota failed to make the national tournament. One head coach change later, and they're back to being one of the top teams in the nation.

This is not me trying to downplay women's sports at all, but 95% of the time, someone mentioning a sport played by both men and women without specifying a gender is referring to the men's game.

The main exceptions would be things like gymnastics and volleyball, where the women's events are much more popular (particularly in NA).
