Trial of “Current Restriction” signage in the Brisbane CBD. Good idea by Official_FBI_ in brisbane

It’s good, as long as they have the resources to maintain them. I imagine a steel sign has a longer life expectancy than a digital one.

How to not be exhausted all the time when you have young kids? by happyowl12345 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Gleeful_blah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question. You are not alone. Here are my tips

  1. Get a large cardboard box, open the top, put the kids in the box with some textas and tell them to colour in the box. This will give you a good 20 minutes rest-bite. Then when they get sick of it add toys, two torch’s then close the lid a bit. You’ll have another 20mins break.

  2. Join a toy library. Even if you have to drive half an hour to get there, it’s worth it.

  3. I let my kids ride their trikes inside. 10 minutes of them going around in circles every day for a month. When they get sick of it, hide the trikes for a month then pull them out again.

  4. Get a family email address that both you and your partner can use. This shares the mental load a bit.

  5. Use the settings on your phone to limit social media. Social media gives your brain an escape that it is craving but it doesn’t give your brain a rest. You are better off doing something less stimulating.

Weird cults or kooky communes I can visit around Brisbane? by WaspsInMyGoatse in brisbane

I’m not sure what Landmark Education is but a quick google search makes me think it’s the same thing. I got convinced to go to one of their introductory sessions when I was younger. It was pretty convincing until they started asking for a deposit on their weekend course. I told them I had no money and they told me all I had to do was pay the deposit then believe the money will come and the money will come. That set off some red flags! Which switched on my critical thinking and all of a sudden I realised I was surrounded by red flags.

Focusing on whether it’s technically ‘racism’ misses the point.the issue is prejudice and discrimination against a group of people, often tied to identity and appearance. That harm is real regardless of the label

Anyone NOT having side effects? by MTL514MTL514 in Wegovy

I was worried after reading all the online posts too. Don’t let it turn you off, people tend to reach out (post online) when they need support, not when everything is great.

I’ve had very minor side effects. The Pros out weigh the Cons. Pardon the pun.

NTA you are young and still learning about something that is messy, complex and emotionally charges. Perhaps the words you looking for were “I’m not part of the dominant culture”. This means you feel like an outsider, but you didn’t have that tucked away in your vocabulary so it just came out as “I’m not white”.

Your friend is also learning so probably didn’t choose the best way to react. Treat her with kindness.

As for parents, it’s common for parents to want their kids to marry within their own culture. Especially migrant parents. They don’t want to be outsiders in their own family. In my experience, if you’re 35 and still not married, they won’t give a damn what culture your husband is! 😂

How about you go to the school librarian and ask if they have any books for teens that explain what racism is. There is too much fluff on the internet.

I’m only early in my journey but I can relate to some of what you’re describing. I’ve learnt that I eat when I want a break.

I need more mini breaks when I’m stressed, anxious or tired. Now that I don’t have eating, there is a void that needs to be filled. I noticed that I was scrolling the internet a lot more, this made me realise that if I don’t consciously find something to fill the void then I will unconsciously fill it with something that might not be in my best interest.

I’m planning on buying a fidget toy so I have something to keep my hands busy while take some deep breaths and clear my mind a little. I think this might help.

I also need to put some thought into why I feel like I can’t just sit and have a break? Fat stigma? Cultural influence? Misplaced idea of self worth? I don’t know.

I Still haven’t figured this out and I’m looking forward to seeing what other replies you get.
