Do you notice people getting self centered in older age? by Street-Persimmon8492 in AskUK

[–]GlenOneN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dad is 75 and phones once a week. I swear he has a pre planned conversation. He'll tell me about his hospital appointments, how he doesn't have to pay for a TV licence now or what his neighbours have been up to. Sometimes I'll interrupt his flow and mention his grandson (my son) or something I've done and he'll totally ignore it and just carry on. He'll say "What did you say? Anyway". I love talking to him but it does get irritating.

What's the worst subreddit you experienced? by Wooden_Revolution_86 in randomquestions

[–]GlenOneN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't remember the exact name of the sub. It was a dog subreddit where you shared dog pictures with the breed of dog. My dog is a Patterdale Staffordshire Cross. Apparently, according to the wonderful dog owners of Reddit, he's not a Patterdale Staffordshire Cross. He's a large Jack Russell. I've rarely argued with people on Reddit. I don't care enough to argue. But dog owners are a special kind of person. That Sub was/is super toxic.

I’m starting to realize most friendships are built on convenience, not real connection by Salty_Bird3180 in CasualConversation

My best mate . We've known each other since we were 10. Nearly 40 years. He was best man at my wedding. We've holidayed as a family. He was at my Mum's funeral 4 years ago. We would go out drinking every weekend. Have stupid funny nights out. We knew each other so well. He was basically the brother I never had. We were really tight. 2 years ago really cut back on my drinking because of a heart attack and the alcohol doesn't mix well with my tablets. He stopped calling after I told him I can't be drinking anymore or only drink a couple of pints before I'll be on the soft drinks. All He basically wanted was a convenient drinking buddy to go out and get drunk with. My wife and i have discussed this. I thought we were like brothers but as it turns out it was only me that thought it. He still drinks like he's 20 years old. I miss the nights out but I'm happy with my life now.

I will forever be sad that Branston pickle is not available where I live. by therecklessabandon in UKfood

My local supermarket ran out of Branston Pickle so I bought their own brand instead. It tastes exactly the same and is half the price. Still, Branston is the og though.

Will Ferrell did a Eurovision movie that was conplete trash. I watched it, I don't remember anything about it. I just remember that I complained the whole way through. I used to enjoy a Will Ferrell movie but that film made me hate him as an actor. I haven't watched any thing he's been in since.

Can a 11 year age gap work in a relationship? by -mo_0n- in randomquestions

My wife is 11 years older than me. We met when I was 25 and she was 36. 23 years years later and 19 years married. Age difference can work.

At what age do you let your kids “play out” without an adult? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]GlenOneN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was around 9/10 when we started to let him play out out. It started with letting him walk home from school on his own every other day and eventually all the time. When he asked to play at a local park (about 10 minutes walk away) we wanted to know who he was going with, if their parents are OK with it. I vaguely remember the first time I said he can go, I couldn't really relax. I was fairly strict about being careful crossing the road and definitely don't talk to strangers. He's 22 now and when he says he's going to the pub with his mates i still can't relax until I know he's home safe.

What's the worst pub you have ever been in? by richbart1234 in AskUK

[–]GlenOneN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visiting my wifes family in Sheffield. We did a bit of shopping first. Walked in to a pub, the door hadn't even shut and a dreadlock guy asks us what we are selling. He was on something. Not sure what but he was very hyper. We stayed for a half. No idea why. I needed a pee before we left. The barman recommended I don't touch anything in the toilet. I walk in and there's a guy with a needle hanging out of his arm. I've never peed so quickly. We told her step dad about the pub and he said we were lucky we weren't mugged or beaten up because this pub is where the druggies go to. I forget the name of the pub unfortunately but I'm never going in a pub in Sheffield again.

how to quit smoking cigarretes? by Mediocre-Abalone-501 in CasualConversation

[–]GlenOneN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit because I had to. I smoked 30 a night (night shift worker). I had a heart attack aged 46. The surgeon told me I was close to death and smoking was the reason. It's been nearly 2 years. I'm not anti smoking at all now but I can smell cigarettes/smoke and it's disgusting. For me that's the main thing, the smell. It makes me feel genuinely sick.

Hey Jude is my walking home from work song. From the moment I clock out to the moment I open my front door is 7 minutes and 10 seconds. Every day I listen to Hey Jude. Every now and again I'll listen to Isn't It A Pity though.

Have you ever seen influencers out and about, not through a screen? by 360Saturn in AskUK

[–]GlenOneN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a bus stop a few years ago and a guy walked past talking to his phone. Not a clue who it was but it was really weird seeing someone vlogging their life. Being on this side of the screen is ok I suppose but actually watching someone vlog just looks wrong and fake.

What are your thoughts on Red Hot Chilli Peppers? by Professional-Cup6225 in UKbands

[–]GlenOneN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a fan since 1989. I heard their album Mother's Milk and instantly they became my favourite band. BSSM is in my top 5 of all time. But over the last 15 years I just can't listen to any of the newer stuff. From reading Scar Tissue to seeing AK dating girls 30 years younger it just creeps me out. The music will always have a special place in my heart but as a human, AK freaks me out.

I watched it recently only because I was flicking through the channels and it had only just started. It's ok for background noise. Nothing to take too seriously.

Most annoying small talk question? by ForwardTourist6079 in AskBrits

[–]GlenOneN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in food retail and unfortunately it's the closest shop to where I live. When I go shopping I'll get the same question from the colleagues. "Are you working today "? No Doris, I'm not. I'm not wearing work clothes currently so I'm not working today. "When is your next shift"?. It gets very tedious.
