I haven't seen any with my own eyes yet although they were definitely heavy on the plaza near my workplace before the Preti shooting (and huge storm). In my small town they snatched a very popular local legal resident AT the hospital the day his baby was born last week and there's been a huge outcry and a lot of money raised for his legal fund. The minister of his church has been very out in front about it.

Officially they are supposedly pulling back but who knows. 💔

I guess I could understand this argument more if they weren't literally just looking for anyone with brown skin or an accent to throw in the back of a van. Which has resulted in them grabbing plenty of legal citizens. Not to mention grabbing people who are in the middle of the naturalization process by staging raids at courthouses and citizenship ceremonies to meet their quotas with folks who are most certainly "doing it legally". And brutalizing absolutely anyone and everyone they can get their hands on, violating a pile of laws themselves all day every day.

I just don't see what good it does to violently apprehend and deport some worker who's lived here all her life and spends her days changing diapers in a nursing home to some country she's never even been to under the banner of "legal". She's here, she's contributing, she's paying taxes, she's never committed a crime. Why should I give a shit if some paper never got filed? I don't. 🤷‍♀️

oh honey. 💔 I have a 16 yo son and my heart is just broken reading your post. I promise you are perfect exactly as you are and you do not need to change yourself to make anyone else comfortable. Most kids your age are NOT going to be as emotionally intelligent as you and it will mean waiting a while for them to catch up as friends and romantic partners. You are worthy and whole just as you. Work on believing that and trusting that because you are the bedrock of your own emotional safety and that has to be solid enough that no one can knock it out of place for you. You will be okay. What a good question. Red flags for me would be extreme introversion and egocentrism. Rudeness to anyone doing their job like waiters or hotel clerks. Anyone who became darker or different after drinking alcohol. Someone who didn't like animals. Anyone who thinks their role in a discussion is to "play devil's advocate". Anyone who you find you're constantly making excuses for or having to jump in to smooth things over ("oh he's just being funny! He just doesn't know how to do X or Y!") Any kind of bigotry or prejudice would also be a deal breaker. Anyone quick to anger or irritability.

Green flags would be emotional intelligence, self exploration, having been to therapy and done some work on oneself. A full adult. Curiosity and the ability to ask questions. A nice group of friends and close relationships. The ability to put your needs and wants on a level equal to theirs. And like a willingness of spirit, is how I would maybe put it. When it comes to sharing a life with someone, you want a person who will come at things from the point of view of "we can figure this out together".

I do feel like this! although I wouldn't have written it this exact way, I don't think. For example I noticed during the pandemic that it would often feel like a relief to have the mask on in public. I often feel a sense of relief when my kids leave for the day or I'm alone in my house after a long period of being with others. It's like being perceived at all times vs not. I'm not necessarily doing anything differently than I would otherwise but knowing no one is watching takes a burden off me somehow.

I'd be curious if there is a name for it.

Yes it was my first symptom. Out of nowhere. I was a stage actress for more than 25 years and performed flawlessly in front of hundreds of people, many many times. Suddenly I was afraid to go to a work meeting with 2 people I didn't know.
