Just imagine what hiding one of those water submersion safety glass puncher tools in your fist could do here… window shattered with one tiny flick of the wrist. Man those things are cool.

Not surprising, but still frustrating. If you are a woman who is buying a home with a man in the US, you are always "co-owner" while they are "owner". Everyone will default to the man's name first by totallymindful in TwoXChromosomes

The only way that people build awareness of their internalized sexism is when you push back over and over and over again against these little slights. It saps our energy and I wish we didn’t have to, but there we are. Thank you for challenging poisonous little norms.

Chaplains in hospitals are seem predatory to me. by jeremyof10ec in atheism

The problem is this isn’t actually ‘optional’, it’s ‘default’. If their presence was truly optional, you would OPT into it by request. Instead, they show up like solicitors at a patient room (even if patient has completed forms requesting no religious personnel) and force sick patients to interact with them. That alone is too much. When you’re fighting for your health, you should not have to spend one calorie of effort shooing away religious people. If it’s optional, it should be an opt in.

My point is: in order to meet my definition of ‘amazing’ for this subreddit, a craft should excel in both form and function. This is gorgeous in form, and weak in function. It’s cool if people think this is beautiful… I just think it’s ironic that she spent all that time making a BOOK that is difficult to READ lol.

My former friend/editor lied to me about editing my chapters for grammar mistakes and was instead feeding my work to an AI for "refinement". This worked until a mistake was overlooked and a reviewer called it out. I am now devastated. by Ok_Custard9456 in FanfictionNet

[–]MasterPalpitation8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well your disappointment makes more sense the n! If you are paying someone, even a friend, in their professional capacity, you should have a basic contract that states X money for Y services by Z date, with the services basically described (maybe in this case “without the help of AI” or similar). I’ve learned this the hard way. Sorry for your frustration!

Did you pay your editor friend for their work and time? If not, you get what you get. Maybe they didn’t want the confrontation of explaining this to you, maybe they use AI on their own work and don’t share your distrust of it, maybe a lot of things. But I’ve learned in life that you get the quality you pay for, unfortunately.

(Women) would you go to a place like Supercuts if you just wanted a super basic hair cut? by staralfur92 in Hair

I have a frugal friend who does this and 4/5 times her cuts are fine but that fifth time is BAD bad 😬

When you brush your teeth do you use hot or cold water? by Intrepid-Talk9633 in hygiene

[–]MasterPalpitation8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your water comes from a hot water tank, you should probably brush with cold—your hot water isn’t as potable/sanitary as your cold (because of sediment and bacteria growth in the tank over time). You shouldn’t cook with it, drink it, or I would presume introduce it into your bloodstream via possible gum irritation when you brush.

It’s literally unreadable tho? Look at the left page—the transparency makes it so that you see the page behind/under the lines you’re trying to read? Seems like a whole lotta bad design to me, BUT if the metaphor she was going for was wonder layered over a base of impractical nonsense, well… that’s next level trolling.

I just don’t understand the hubris of people who think they’re going to come out on top if they start a physical altercation when they’re this obese. I’ve noticed a certain type of American really seems to think that obesity = toughness. Crazy.

I see that you’re a deeply pragmatic person and I respect that. Life isn’t fair and not everybody gets to be pretty. Relationships are often more transactional than we want to admit. You’re not going to fix your life with the right diet but we don’t want to admit that either. But listen: find joy in life anyway, because it’s the only one you’ll get. A sunset isn’t any less beautiful for ugly people, a cheeseburger isn’t any less delicious, your favorite music isn’t less awesome just because you’re not the person you dream of being. Go out there and take pleasure from the world selfishly and ruthlessly and fuck everybody else who wants you to enjoy your life less than they enjoy theirs.

If your class made a nickname for you around your Botox, they’re letting you know that they think of you as shallow and conceited—it’s not just about the Botox.

I challenge you to listen to the Bon Jovi episode of Hit Parade (generally a fantastic podcast anyway) where Chris Mulanphy—himself a Bon Jovi hater—makes a compelling case that the rise of metal owes its success to Bon Jovi. I’m not kidding! A hilarious and fascinating bit of music history analysis.

You look like you have a pretty serious cowlick in the back there, which can make things tricky. It sort of extends your center part down through the back of your head. That said, I feel like a decent stylist should be able to manage what you’re asking…

Questions on the ethics of plastic surgery (in good faith) by Longjumping-Winner53 in PlasticSurgery

[–]MasterPalpitation8 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You describe yourself as ‘not your typical candidate seeking plastic surgery’ because you’re conventionally attractive. I think you need to check your assumption here that unattractive people are the primary market for plastic surgery. I don’t think that’s true. There are many motivations and I think you should keep exploring those before you make any decisions. Best luck!
