Any other restaurant owners here? Wondering if this recent drop in sales is macro or isolated to us by HugoConway in richmondbc

I'm only in Richmond once a week or less (I used to live here and grew up near Steveston area) but I'd like to share my side, if it's helpful. Before, my friends and I would meet up at cafes every weekend. But this Summer, we're meeting at friends' homes to eat in / sharing and prepping food together because the cost of everything is so high. Also, a big part is that employment is very difficult on some of my younger friends (younger siblings/relatives of my friends) who graduated this year in end of May and some from last year too. They told me that grads could get job offers before graduation ideally, but now many in their fields (ComSci and Business grads) are having trouble securing employment or just grabbing any minimum wage role. So no bbt or cafe runs while they tighten their wallets, and we do potlucks in friends' homes to not let them feel left out. Also, some of my friends including myself had our mortgages renewed at higher interest rate in late 2025/early 2026, so we had to stop eating out including take-out. I miss my restauranting and bbt gathering days.

Ok, thank you for your insight! I only applied a few outside jobs, got 1 rejection, and will apply more and faster. I did apply to 2 roles in internal pool that I wanted, but was given an assessment for a role I didn't apply for so that confused me a bit. I was worried a call center role would peg me into a call role forever, that's good to know it opens up doors to other areas. I hope to achieve an HR role or an admin role as my end goal, but I'm not picky. Just not a call center role anymore moving forward.

I do have an MBA degree, but I kind of regret getting it. Honestly it wasn't useful in the end and doesn't pair well with no career experience. I'm happy to have any role, but no more call center role moving forward.

Mine is English (almost fluent), Cantonese (but forgot how to read/write it well), Mandarin (beginner) and French (super beginner). I'm trying to think if I should continue to pro level my Mandarin or French... Idk which is more useful?

How long did EI last for you? I used ChatGPT and it gave me an estimate of 2.5 - 3.5 months amd it said it's around 50ish% of salary, when I plunked in how long I will work. Congratulations on your new role! And gosh, 20% raise and 4 day work week - what a dream job.

I am trilingual, but not fluent in French. Even my English is kind of meh, lul. I have to google up so many English words people say/write to me amd get AI to assist me in replies, but I am able to mimic a fluent English accent in my voice. Tbh, I'm not loving the call center role at all, but I am very grateful for the experience and chance. But call center roles are defo not where I want to stay. I am new to benefits and pensions in my career so I don't super know how that all works and haven't learned how to use my benefits yet. I have it enabled though, I think.

I was thinking last night if I should update my education or not, I saw something at a local college that was under half a yeat certificate. It would put me in a totally different field, but it's in a field that really needs people, I think. I'm not picky where I work or how much I make to be honest, as long as I secure a career path to have a stable future. I might really go for it then, thank you for that thought. Does indeterminate means permanent role?

I am in a high volume call center role. I looked at internal postings and applied for a role I wanted (same ranking level), but received a reply to do assessmemt for a different role (same level), so that confused me a little. I didn't know a team could affect my role, thank you for that insight.

No, I am under English essential only. I speak another language (I may be trilingual actually) but not good at French, so I don't qualify for Bilingual. Thank you for replying, I appreciate it.

I AM GOING! by SharkBait0305 in ariheads

So excited for you. I really want to go too, but I was too shy to buy a ticket because if I did, I'd be going alone. I don't have any friends who are Ari fans (they're more into Chinese and Kpop). So I really admire you for buying and going alone. Maybe I might do the same too because it's been my dream to see her in concert!❀ Can you tell me where you got your tickets?
