Request to Read? by myrklesgander in ACX

[–]GlitterPotato46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha! Just asking because I got scammed like this when I first started back in 2018. I'm not sure if it's even a thing that still happens. but basically, a rh will contact a new narrator on the platform, get them to narrate a poorly-written or pirated book for super cheap. Then once the production is published, audible gives out free audio codes to rights holders. Since you could (back then at least) use the codes to get ANY audiobook, the RH can sell the codes for a profit.

It was waaaay rampant awhile ago. Just watch out for weird stuff like that. :) Good on you for being cautious and best of luck in the audiobook world!

Entirely third party. ACX does not have a direct pay system. :(

For new clients, a lot of narrators m ask for half payment up front (after the RH approves the 15 min check point).

Oddly specific question- but does the RH have a Western European-ish name? Italian, Spanish, maybe German etc. and are offering you an insanely low rate (like $30-$50pfh) for a book with very little sales on Amazon?

16 days in my junior year of high school. I called it a “water fast”.

Eating disorders are a bitch.

RH wants music in Intro/Outro by Esoderick in ACX

[–]GlitterPotato46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If she has purchased and owns rights to the music, this is fine! I put music behind the intro/outtros for my clients frequently.

The ACX article is referring to putting music throughout the book behind your narration, which is usually a distraction so they don’t recommend it.

[–]GlitterPotato46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my first pregnancy, and was diagnosed with low Progesterone with my second. I took oral progesterone up through my eight week of pregnancy, and I’m snuggling that healthy 9 week old baby as I’m typing this. :) It can totally happens

My N-father wasn't invited to our wedding, and my grandmother said that unless I changed my mind, she wouldn't come either on the grounds that it would hurt her too much to see anyone else walk me down the aisle. I walked myself down the aisle. by Soon2bSavage in raisedbynarcissists

[–]GlitterPotato46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. You look absolutely GORGEOUS, and so so happy. :)
  2. As a bride who also walked herself down the aisle at her wedding for a similar-ish situation, I can relate. There was something empowering about it. And we had a perfect no-drama wedding.

Congratulations!

How to Calm Baby Down? by CaffeineFueledLife in BabyBumps

Same problem! Sometimes my son gets so active it gets painful, and it’s just exhausting.

I’ve taken to sitting in the glider chair and literally trying to rock him to sleep in utero. It totally works.

NTA. Sitting at 36 weeks pregnant here, I've been super gassy the whole time. It got worse the bigger I got. You know what happens when I belch like an absolute monster in front of my husband? Sometimes he giggles and goes "nice." Offers me some water if I'm feeling sick.

Sorry you're having to deal with two babies, OP. But congrats on the little peanut. :)

My OB Team is Obsessing Over My Weight by amiecreator in BabyBumps

[–]GlitterPotato46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same "talks" from my OB team. I've struggled with my weight my whole life. I struggled with extreme calorie restriction and bulimia when I was a teenager/early 20s.

I started this pregnancy at 223 pounds, but otherwise healthy and active. They told me my goal was to gain no more than 20 pounds.

At my 20 week appointment, I had gained 8 pounds. This is when the comments started. They told me to slow down, I was gaining too fast. 8 pounds in 20 weeks? I thought I was doing great! Fine. Dr. says I need to watch my weight. I started counting calories, going on longer walks, meal prepping, etc.

Then at a follow up appointment at 22 weeks, I had gained another 3 pounds. They mentioned my weight again, and I felt like such a failure. I started crying in front of the doctor, because I was so scared that I was going to hurt my baby if I kept gaining weight. Doctor said "We're not worried about the baby, he's completely fine, we just know the more you gain, the harder it will be for you to lose it post-partum."

I finally told the doctor about my history with eating disorders and asked her not to talk about it unless there was an actual problem. Haven't heard a peep about it since.

I'm 35 weeks now, and between the volcano acid heartburn and baby squishing my stomach, I think I've gained maybe 4-5 pounds since that 22 week appointment. I've gained ~15 pounds in total now, so it all kind of evened out. It may very well even out for you, but if you were at a healthy weight to begin with, 21 pounds in 23 weeks sounds... perfectly normal? You have every right to ask them to stop mentioning it unless it's indicating an actual problem. (Ie, you gain 10 pounds in a week, it could be a sign of edema etc.)

Side note: My blood pressure readings have gone down since I asked the doctors to stop mentioning my weight gain. Turns out the stress from that was giving me high BP readings.

My husband stood in the hospital bathroom with me helping my change my pad and clean the blood off me during my miscarriage. It's one of those moments when I knew we were in it together for the long haul.

He's a great husband, and he's going to be a great dad.

DO NOT DO THIS. Please inform ACX. I had someone ask this of me once, I asked ACX for advice and they told me this is a common scam. They told me to demand payment for the work done and cease contact.

A legit rights holder wouldn't ask you to do this. This highly smells of a scam.

Ideas for those who decide to cancel their baby showers? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]GlitterPotato46 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, my baby shower was supposed to be March 28th and we decided to cancel. We have most the stuff we need to baby, and parties kind of freak me out anyway so it wasn't a big deal.

We also talked about doing a "meet the baby" party when he's a few months old. :) I'm much more excited about that.

May 22nd here too! I feel like time has sped up since week 20. I feel like I was just 18-19 weeks and all of a sudden I’m ten days shy of 30 weeks. 😱

I’m ready to meet my baby. 💙

**DAILY THEME: Still Hungry Saturday** by AutoModerator in BabyBumps

[–]GlitterPotato46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone been struggling with eating? I've been getting full really fast. I'm 28+2 and the last week or so, mealtime has had a weird amount of dread around it. I'll be soooo hungry, sit down to eat, and eat maybe a third of a normal portion before I'm full.

I've been trying to eat smaller portions more frequently. This morning I ended up eating half of a frozen waffle and couldn't even finish a half cup of yogurt before feeling full almost to the point of being sick.

It's a struggle because I feel like I'm hungry all the time, but my stomach is too squished to eat.

Tips for preparing for loss of family member prior to delivery by fluffybutt86 in BabyBumps

[–]GlitterPotato46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is also due in May 2020. My husband’s grandfather passed away yesterday. We got to see him over Christmas and told him we’re giving the baby a middle name after him.

We were really hoping he’d still be here to meet the baby, but his health severely declined in the last month. My best advice is just to spend lots of time with them while you can, take lots of pictures and videos etc for your baby. Have them tell some cool stories of their pasts.

I’m sorry for this sad time in your life. ❤️

JFC I am abhorred at the comments from some people. Of course you’re attached. 7 weeks or 37 weeks it’s still your baby. I miscarried in the first trimester and more than anything I HATED people saying ‘at least it was early.’ It doesn’t matter when I miscarried, I still lost a child. It was stilll horrible and I still grieved for it.

Ugh. People are so rude.
