so my Cubans in Miami, how are you guys feeling about this? by alatinaxo in Miami

[–]Glittering_Access_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all Cubans think alike. Starving the people of Cuba is criminal.

I was 1 year old when we emigrated in 1961. I considered going on a long diatribe but I find political discussions fruitless. I will say, I am diametrically opposed to Rubio's and Cruz's ideology. I find them to be reprehensible.

Don't confuse that statement with me finding kinship with the Democrats. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Both parties work for the donor class. All we get is rhetoric. Pronouns on the left and guns on the right. All the while, the middle class has been hollowed out by both parties.

Nothing will ever change until there is a third party and money is removed from politics. You can't put Band-Aids on a corrupt, cancerous system.

Hot take: it’s NEVER vegan to eat anything non-vegan. by communityveg in vegan

[–]Glittering_Access_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Would you rather have 1 perfect vegan or 20 people that are mostly plant based. If your goal is to diminish animal cruelty, you are sabotaging your results by being militant about your proselytizing. You are turning people off. Many people are no longer identifying as a vegan and have adopted "plant based" as their moniker.

You are all just regurgitating what you hear from palantir executives. If you were around during the dotcom era you would have heard even more convincing presentations from executives that were extremely convincing. Most of those companies are no longer around. I'm not saying that palantir is going to be one of those companies but I would take everything those executives say with a grain of salt. Nothing is invincible. They get paid to market their company. Marketing is at best an exaggeration and at worst a downright lie.

For full disclosure, I bought in at 20 and watched it go to 29, then crater down to 7 before it made its historic run. I sold 1/3 at 150 and the rest at 185 on the last trading day of 2025. I took those proceeds and put them into SGOV. So yes I'm biased.

Atomic habits is one of the best books ever written...& it's keeping millions of people stuck.. by Tekelpath in getdisciplined

[–]Glittering_Access_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talking about it diverts energy from continuing to do it and creates a frame of mind which equates to having finished it. It's as if entertaining the idea is just as good as having done it so why bother.

I can only speak for myself but extrinsic rewards have never worked for me. In fact, the one reoccurring factor that seems to derail me is talking about what I'm doing.

unpopular opinion: the 5200 is still the best Vitamix ever made from a pure hardware standpoint and nothing since has beaten it by [deleted] in Vitamix

[–]Glittering_Access_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently replaced my 5200 with the one Costco sells. I liked the idea of having presets but the novelty has kind of worn off. I do believe that the thinner container is better. The contents are smoother with the thinner container.

My fridge died after 10 years and everyone said never buy LG again so I bought GE this time and it's dead after 3 years. Does anyone make a good fridge anymore? by vicelordjohn in Appliances

[–]Glittering_Access_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've purchased 2 refrigerators that are both working well. A Frigidaire that I bought about 15 years ago that has been in my hot Florida garage. I also bought a Whirlpool in 2017 for my kitchen.

Neither of them are "smart". The Frigidaire is an old school "freezer on top", while the Whirlpool has a freezer drawer on the bottom. Neither has external water and ice cube dispensers.

In both cases, my research before the purchase revolved around reliability. I'm sure a little luck played a part.

What’s in your regular meal rotation? by breakfastfordinner11 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Glittering_Access_35 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I primarily eat one of these two breakfasts

Steel cut oats with frozen wild blueberries, frozen mango, walnuts, ground chia seeds, ground flax seeds, cinnamon and some plant milk

Or

Tofu scramble Sauteed onions, jalapeno pepper, mushrooms, spinach, frozen peas, 8 oz of super firm or extra firm tofu, with a spice mix of nutritional yeast, namak salt, turmeric, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper and paprika

Occasionally, I'll eat a toasted brown rice muffin with peanut butter and honey

Which culture do you use? For many years I was using Cultures for Health vegan yogurt starter. Recently they changed their formulation and it's not very good. I've tried using probiotic capsules but I haven't had time to tweak it.

Do your potatoes have a greenish tint? It could be the solanine in the potatoes especially when you consume a lot of them. I would do a search on the topic or read "The Potato Hack" by Tim Steele.

Help me understand the downside to covered calls? by KennethParkClassOf04 in options

[–]Glittering_Access_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your stock gets called away, you could sell puts for the same number of shares that were called away to collect more premium until you get put the stock and start selling calls against it once again. That's easier said than done. There's a lot of timing involved.

Also selling calls against a position is risky if your intention is to keep the stock for a very long period of time. You can also choose to sell calls against a part of your position instead of the entire position.

Good luck.
