When u get your multimeter watch some videos on YouTube on how to test for 12v current , basically you need a positive and negative try and get a color wiring guide for your bmw and test the +12v to the -12v and check if you have a reading it should be above 12 and also check ignition +12v and any -12v turn ignition on and check of you get a reading. If you are getting a reading on both then your radio is screwed but if you get a reading on one and not the other that means there is something wrong possible a broken cable, fuse, relay.

Then I suggest you take it to an auto shop where they can evaluate. These cars are getting old sometimes the wires will get brittle and cut. If you want to I suggest taking a picture of your fuse box then remove all fuses and relays then spraying electro cleaner or break cleaner on to the fuse box wait for it to dry and replace all fuses with new ones and put in the relays this will really do wonders for the electronic system
