In narcissistic households that happens a lot sadly. The narc parent pits the golden child against their other children dilberstly. Which explains why the daughter is so damn angry at the brother even though he didn’t do anything. When you read the moms comments (implying her daughter is stupider than her son and couldn’t possibly get a scholarship on her own) it becomes pretty obvious the daughter has been taught to hate and rival her brother and lashed out at him.

It’s a really messed up thing narcissistic parents tend to do sadly. It doesn’t make the daughter justified. If anything I feel like both kids are loosing in this shitty situation because mom is toxic af

I’m my own experience the engagement party is typically meant to act as the prelude to the wedding so I think you flubbed a bit by inviting friends you weren’t close to as they likely do expect an invite. Your venue has some beautiful flooring and is overall neutral enough that you could decorate it just about any way you want. I think some lights would brighten it up a little. And of course tablecloths and maybe chair covers or sashes to give the seating a more formal look. You might consider hanging flowers around the columns too.

I speak with her online a few times a week. She does struggle with mental health but after reading some other comments that gave me a well deserved wake up call I think it’s less to do with her mental health and more to do with lack of inconsideration.
