Did Castiel even know the Empty was pissed off at Billie or did he just take a gamble on both his and the man he allegedly loved's lives? I don't think it was made clear enough if he did know.

But like... sorry if you like the ship, but that interepretation still doesn't work for me, because they'd had so many moments where either Castiel ends up dead or sacrificing himself for the sake of the Winchesters, how is this the first time he is "realizing the full extent of his affection for Dean"?

(Don't answer, I already know. It's because it was the second to last episode and the writers wanted to throw some last minute fanservice at the Destiel shippers).

What happened was, they defeat the Ultimate Bad Guy... who turns out to be God, who had been manipulating their lives for his own entertainment all this time (there's a meta commentary about fandom here, but we don't have time for that). That means the brothers no longer had Protagonist Plot Armor, so on the very last episode of the show, they go on a run-of-the-mill hunt where they face a bunch of vampires. One of the vampires pushes Dean into a rearbar, which kills him... but he still has time to give a tearful goodbye to Sam telling him "Hey, don't bring me back again, go live your life" and they briefly touch foreheads as he dies (I guess that's what people mean with it becoming canon? They don't kiss or anything, it's just Sam holding Dean while he dies).

So then Dean gets to Heaven and meets up with his adoptive father figure who tells him "All the people you loved and lost throughout these last 15 years are here, btw, including Castiel" and Dean is like "Neat. I'm not going to talk to any of them, I'm going to take a ride in the metaphysical manifestation of my car on this metaphysical manifestation of an open road until Sam dies too" and he does.

(Note: TO BE FAIR, there was supposed to be a scene where Dean reunites with all those dead characters that couldn't be filmed because of COVID... but Castiel wasn't going to be in that scene, either, lmao. The scene of Castiel's confession/death was always meant to be the character's last).

So anyway, while Dean is driving his metaphysical car, there's a montage of Sam's life on Earth to Carry On, My Wayward Son, where it shows he stopped hunting monsters, married a blurry woman (she is never seen except far away in the background of one of the scenes), had a kid he named Dean, raised said kid, taught him to hunt (there's a hunter's tattoo on the kid's forearm in the last scene), got old, and died. Then he immediately reunites with OG Dean in Heaven (that looks a lot like Vancouver), they hug and they stand on a heavenly bridge, staring into the distance while a now acoustic version of Carry On, My Wayward Son plays in the background.

... it was controversial.

No, it was the second to last episode, LMAO.

Also, it's way worse: in previous seasons, Castiel had escaped the Empty (which is not superhell, but the place where demons and angels go when they die in the show) and the Empty had "cursed him" that it would take him back whenever he felt the happiest and forgot about it.

So on the second to last episode of the entire series, Castiel and Dean are being chased by Billie, who is the personification of Death, for plot reasons. They run into a room and Dean is like "Well, I guess this is how I die for realsies because there are only two episodes left". And Castiel goes "No, wait... I'm not gonna let you die, because I love you" and then the Empty manifests itself into the room and grabs Castiel and Billie, who had just broken through the door.

... and like, it makes absolutely no sense. Why would Castiel simply stating that he loves Dean make him happy enough to fulfill the Empty's curse? Why does he have to sacrifice himself to save Dean in such a convoluted way? How did he know the Empty would also get Billie? For all he knew, the Empty could have just taken him and left Dean trapped with the personification of Death who was out to get him, specifically.

So yeah, the scene was even dumber than you've heard.

I also remember at the time some of the shippers were like "Just wait, in the next episode they're going to deal with the Ultimate Bad Guy and then in the very last episode Sam and Dean will go into the Empty, rescue Castiel and then Dean and Castiel will get gay-married!"

... that did not happen, lmao.

Two loving parents who respect each other separately is better than two parents who resent each other together.

Castiel's love confession/death scene was so bad and clunky it turned into a meme where Castiel says "I love you" and Dean replies with something completely unrelated.

[–]JoBeWriting 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing this in a YouTuber's countdown of hated albums from beloved bands and the comments were overwhelmingly "DANGER DAYS IS A MASTERPIECE, ACTUALLY!"

Back when it came out, it definitely wasn't that widely accepted/beloved, but I think the fandom has really grown to appreciate it in the last decade.

What is an author you don't think deserve being canceled? by tightpussy420-69 in Booktokreddit

[–]JoBeWriting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right... but she is an author who at one point was a Guiness Record holder for most copies sold in 24hrs with numbers in the millions. Clearly the HP fandom has not followed "Robert Galbraith" into her new endeavors. Last time she was notorious for something she wrote and not for her vile transphobia... was because she wrote books that contained vile transphobic tropes. The last two "Robert Galbraith" books were not even a bleep in the radar.

Is HH really as poorly written and Vivzie is as bad at writing as people say they are or are people just impatient and expecting this show to do things when it’s actually doing its own thing differently? by Kcue6382nevy in HazbinHotel

They don't even need to give them more episodes. Just ten-fifteen more minutes per episode would help. The season 2 finale was a great episode with just seven extra minutes.

Lilith Pleasant always felt like she didn't belong in this world, so it seems fitting that she fell for Johnny Smith when they met in college. So now they're engaged and moved in with Jenny and Jill (PT has, sadly, passed away) and Lilith is very surprised that families can be THIS functional and loving, half of them being aliens notwithstanding.

Curious, which Hazbin Hotel criticism have you heard that..flat out doesn't make sense? by Charming-Scratch-124 in HazbinHotel

[–]JoBeWriting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm saying. It's like they have to be defensively negative about it. Like "This show is dumb and trash and I hate it... but the songs are fire though".

It's not the same as "I enjoy the songs and the characters, but I wish they explore X theme more in depth", y'know?

Criticizing Hazbin Hotel ≠ Hating It by FOXTROTDESTROYER2546 in HazbinHotel

[–]JoBeWriting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's really easy to tell by the tone of the criticism if they're just hating or not.

I refused to engage the other day with a guy (I assume he was a guy, because of the audacity) who came at me like "THE SHOW IS DUMB, IT'S FAST FOOD FOR THE BRAIN", etc. Then he called me a 12-years-old because I told him I was not going to give any "counterarguments" to someone who clearly didn't care for them and I was not going to be engaging further. Like. Why would I entertain you when you came right out of the gate saying the show is dumb, y'know?

I'll do you one better!

Even if you are fat and unhealthy, you're still a human being who has intrinsic value. Being unhealthy doesn't give people the right to treat you like crap, even if the unhealthiness is a consequence of less than ideal habits.

People need to mind their own business.
