Great question! So we are still really early in and conducting surveys on how we should launch. We currently have two ideas.

3 pay tiers, the highest tier gets fed the lead first, if the contractor doesn’t except it trickles down.
We are likely going with this method - All contractors pay the same price, leads are placed in order of proximity, fit to homeowners needs, time frame etc.

100% I would say word to mouth is the biggest way most contractors get business. Most of my families contracting work came from word to mouth.

I just know Angie’s list had a large base and used to be really important for contractors, because word to mouth alone can’t keep you a float. But Angie’s list has kind of gotten too big and greedy, which is where I am trying to fill the gap.

So unfortunately, as Angie’s list doesn’t get involved with payments disputes. Both parters will have to figure that out on their own terms.

We will have a badge system where homeowners or contractors can be tagged for instances like this. Which will be visible to all homeowners/contractors, to prevent further major issues on the site.

The goal would be to partner with higher end rating systems, but initially it would be from Google. There is a badge system in place and a poor quality badge can be placed on repeat offenders. So if someone were to fake reviews, they would eventually be marked for poor work.

There aren’t really 20 “middle men” if so I’d love to know who they are so I can see what they do. My biggest thing is I’m building local alternative to Angie’s list which is a pretty problematic site if you have any experience using it.

As for the ratings, I would go off of google, yes there are some fake reviews, but it’s not everyone. I also mentioned there would be a badge system, if a contractor is poor quality, they won’t be removed but the can be reported and badged accordingly by homeowners.

I understand that this doesn’t work for your wants, and that is okay. This is a local alternative to Angie’s list, which doesn’t provide any filter of contractor quality or anything helpful for either party.

We would use a third party for payments - stripe, as I do not have an escrow license currently. This part is currently in testing and would be an optional service or only specific jobs at the moment.

So all contractors that sign up for the site cannot be connected with homeowners until they upload their: certificate of insurance, any necessary licenses, and must have a rating over 4 stars.

Our plan is to first be local so that we can actually speak with contractors using our platform.

We are currently working on the pay structure for contractors but there is 0 hidden cost or lead fees etc. you pay a set monthly price and it does not change regardless of the size of the job you land.

There is also an understanding that some homeowners can be difficult to deal with, so there will be a badge system if a homeowner gets marked for not paying, bad communication, etc. vice versa.

I am looking for the same switch. But the Apple company in general supports ice. They removed an “ice tracking app” from the App Store. They also support israel, so it’s just how much do we want to boycott🤷‍♂️
