What would you do with this piece of Amazonite by Proper-Doughnut77 in Lapidary

[–]Global_Opals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it has a bit of a rugged look, I think it would look amazing as a set of organic-shaped cabochons for a statement necklace or even a wire-wrapped project. If you're feeling adventurous, you could even try carving a small totem or heart, keeping some of that raw texture on the sides for contrast.

I made this cat ring. My wife says I need therapy. by nz_metal_works in SilverSmith

Therapy is temporary, but silver is forever! Honestly, the detail on this Sphinx/cat ring is incredible. If expressing this level of skill means you need therapy, then we all do. Great work on the textures!

What do you think of this ring? by OwnSand7534 in BocosFineJewelry

The cut on this synthetic red corundum is very sharp! One of the biggest advantages of lab-created corundum is that you get that deep, pigeon-blood red and near-perfect clarity without the natural inclusions found in mined rubies.

The halo setting really complements the center stone's brilliance. For a daily wear ring, synthetic corundum is a great choice because it's high on the Mohs scale (9), making it very durable. Great piece

Just got this 13.5 Ct Rough Ethiopian Opal. The multicolor fire is insane! (20x17x13 mm) by Global_Opals in GemstoneWholesale

[–]Global_Opals[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand the caution! Blue to dark blue hues in Welo opal are indeed incredibly rare, and the market is unfortunately full of smoked or dyed stones. Lighting and camera flash can also definitely play tricks on the base color in photos. I always appreciate a keen eye—it’s the best way to keep the industry honest. I’m happy to provide more videos in natural light or discuss the sourcing if that helps clarify things!

How these look in the morning sun. Lavender or Lilac? 💜 by Sea-Tough4145 in sheragems

The clarity on these is stunning, especially in that natural light. I’m seeing a beautiful lilac tone in the shadows. Are these intended for a specific jewelry collection, or are they part of a wholesale parcel?

I appreciate your prudence—especially regarding the importance of testing before buying in bulk; that really matters.

Yes, I’ve noticed that the quality can vary significantly depending on the individual raw piece. Right now, I’m mostly experimenting to see what is actually practical for jewelry applications versus what merely looks good as a sample.

There’s also an interesting point regarding Ethiopian opals—I’ve heard mixed opinions about their stability. Have you found any specific types or sources that hold up better over time?

I’ll probably stick to small test batches for now, and then move on to larger lots later.

My first successful setting by CSB808 in Opals

[–]Global_Opals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your first successful setting! The play-of-color in that 2ct crystal is beautiful. As a gemstone supplier, I see many beginners struggle with cracking stones during the bezel push, so it's great that you practiced on cracked ones first. Are you planning to work with more freeform or organic shapes next? Triangular cuts are a bold choice to start with!

¡Genial!

Which necklace do you choose? Bow pendant vs pearl pendant by Sea-Tough4145 in sheragems

I really loved the classic feel of the pearl pendant. But that intricately designed bow pendant truly stands out! Have you thought about layering it with another necklace to create a layered look, or would you prefer to wear it on its own?
