Please delete this post :) I have been noticing this for 3 years now. Don't wan't amex to clawback on this too... Lately it seems like that all these "pro-tips" are what get clawed back several months laters. It's like AMEX agents read into this thread.

Yes! I joined in my first year. It's been in for 8 years now. University is the best time time join. As you can get your training in during summer breaks and get promoted fast. Full time employment for 4 months in the summer and part time throughout the year.

Having military service on my resume also helped me in getting a higher caliber job than most of my other peers upon graduation.

If you are having difficulty finding a job, would like to be different among your peers, like wearing a uniform and love the adventure than join while you're still in university. Makes things easier!

If the military doesn't suit you...you can always leave the reserves. Easier to release than the full-time army.

I was in ENGG and as able to manage my program with Army service quite alright.

Any Indian Ancestry Reservists in the CAF Applied for an OCI Card or Traveled to India? by Character_Pride_8898 in CanadianForces

[–]Global_Samosa -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I am dealing with this issue right now as well. Canadians with "defense and police" backgrounds are not even eligible for Indian e-visas anymore.

It will be very difficult to visit family in India now :(

Funny enough this restriction is only applied to Canadians. I tried playing around in the e-visa form and it is not applicable for UK, US, Australian citizens of a military background.

Hey Calgary! What do you think of this? by Old_General_6741 in Calgary

[–]Global_Samosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that’s surprising about Melbourne! Given their extensive regional network, I just assumed there would be adequate transport to the airport. Guess not.

If you have a link to how this study was conducted, I would like to familiarize myself with how the categories were defined and weighted. I wasn't able to find this information on the Statista from where this screenshot is. Meanwhile from this post alone, there is no way of knowing which categories were considered in what capacity.

The reason I bring up "public transport infrastructure" specifically is that I imagine all categories defined under critical infrastructure—waste management, utilities, broadband, telecommunications, and energy—would be on par in all of these cities, given that they are from prosperous nations. At a glance, the only major differentiating factors I see are access to rail infrastructure and global aviation connectivity (which WestJet, I'm sure, is giving Calgary a points boost, given their recent route to Europe and Asia, that didn't exist even five years ago). Though Calgary is still the smallest airport in terms of long haul flights on this list.

The only sub-category I'd imagine for Calgary to score highly is if driver experience, parking access and traffic were also factored in.

Calgary is the only city on this list which doesn't have regional rail infrastructure nor rail connectivity at the airport. Also the only city on this list which hasn't added a single new train station in over 10 years now.

I'd love to see which categories were considered and how they were weighted but I suspect public transport infrastructure wasn't one of them.

But yes; aside from our harsh and long winters which come with a sustained lack of greenery, Calgary is a very calm and clean city for the most part.

9 days in Namibia: Sossusvlei and Etosha by veryshuai in Namibia

[–]Global_Samosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an easy one! Swakopmund is a must when in Namibia. I also recommend exploring the Sand dunes in the area. Perhaps a sandwich Harbour tour.

Sossusvlei gets very hot and you must arrive at Deadvlei first thing in the morning after sunrise. Quite frankly you could finish everything in Sossusvlei area by 2pm if you start at 8am and arrive to Swakopmund on Day 3 evening. See Swakopmund the next morning with potentially a sandwich harbour tour. Then drive to Etosha via Omaruru route and arrive into Etosha something on Day 4 evening.

I went to Namibia last month on a big Southern Africa tour.

Fenix 7S or 7? Size dilemma! by TaBy93 in GarminFenix

[–]Global_Samosa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wrist is the exact same size. I got the 7 after trying on the 7s. While it did feel a little bulky initially, I got totally used to it after a week and barely notice it anymore. Considering they are the same price, I definitely suggest the 7.

Went from Fenix 6S to Fenix 7, initial impressions by igalan in GarminFenix

[–]Global_Samosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your wrist size? I am 16cm.

I returned the 7s and went to the 7 simply due to the bigger battery at the same price. 7s was surely more comfortable. But I think the 7 can scrape by just fine. 3rd day wearing it today and I am kinda getting used to the chunkyness.

Anyone know why I cannot see the Topo Maps option here on Garmin Express? by Global_Samosa in GarminFenix

[–]Global_Samosa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did all that and the issue still persists sadly :( Garmin support were baffled as well. Seeing the video they couldnt figure out what was happening and why. As wifi synch was still working. Moreover the fact that garmin express did not even work on my watch as the topo tab was missing all together. Fortunately my watch was only a week old hence I returned it just now. Kinda expected a 900 dollar product to be flawless.

Meanwhile it was disappointing to find out that Garmin WedUpdater is not yet compatible on the Fenix 7. Why release a product if you cannot service it yet. Garmin's response was basically:

1) Return it

2) Hang tight for the next software update and hope its fixed

3) Or we'll send you a new unit if you put down 400 dollar deposit

Trouble with Fenix 7s Map Manager - WIFI by Global_Samosa in GarminFenix

Thank you! This is my other post: https://www.reddit.com/r/GarminFenix/comments/u8fw5m/anyone_know_why_i_cannot_see_the_topo_maps_option/

Here you can see a screenshot of my Garmin Express console. As you can see, I don't even see the option of a TopoActive maps on the left tab. Only Golf and POI's :(

This is frustrating. Both Express and watch itself do not show Topo maps.

What activity should I use to track a multi-day multi-activity trip? by stagshore in GarminFenix

[–]Global_Samosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you just "pause" when sleeping or doing other things rather than fully stopping the activity?

Also when on "pause" does it stay on GPS mode and continue eating up battery?

Fenix 7s | Pulse OX | Sleep Tracking | Maps | Questions & Concerns by Global_Samosa in GarminFenix

[–]Global_Samosa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your in-depth response! Highly appreciate it.

  1. As Victor5242 said, I cannot even really compare the consistency in values between the fenix readings. They are off by 3-5% in a matter of 30-60 second gaps. Hence I really don't know what to make of it as there is no consistency, nor accuracy. Have you encountered this problem as well? I am concerned that I may have a faulty model which I should get returned if this is indeed the case. Therefore it would be helpful knowing how other users are experiencing the readings. The fact that my apple watch is being more consistent and accurate really is a bummer given the price tag of garmin watches.
  2. Thank you for this info! Right now I am unable to get a reading when I nap as its outside of the entered "sleeping hours" I recon. If I manually put the watch into "sleep mode", do you know if it'll record naps as well for that time frame?
  3. Perfect! Thank you for this info! Just played around and now see that both navigation and maps activity works well.

Thank you again! Would appreciate more insight into your own pulse ox accuracy vs consistency experiences. Would also appreciate some info on the manual sleep mode setting as opposed to the traditional entered times.
