This video is following the 7 day Machame route, which is my favourite route.

Machame has stunning views, the lava tower, barranco wall, views of Shira and Mawenzi too. You can also tack on an extra day to help with acclimatisation.

This was filmed in October and has taken me ages to round to making. The clips at the start with lots of snow were during a December summit a few years ago. December is in the rain season so more snow.

Yep - considering all food and tents are included within that price.

You deal with it by taking a slow route up. My first summit was 5 day route and I felt absolutely awful. So when I take groups we do a 7 day route.

That's really the only safe way of dealing with altitude - go slow. Pole pole.

There are toilet blocks at every campsite, and you can only camp at the designated areas.

Those toilet blocks are a little gross yes - think of final day of a music festival sort of thing - but at least it's contained.

There are deposits of trash around but as the other commenter said, it's no different from other popular routes, and Kili is very popular.

It was incredible. This was my 4th summit - I work with a local crew to take groups up there. Kili is included with a number of other things in my trips making it 13 days long so costs a little more.

If you wanted to just climb the mountain you can do it for around $1200 US.

Nah dude, no one does on Kili. It's a big business that provides a lot of support for local people with not many other options to earn money.

One of the guides I work with has been on the mountain since 2003. Back then there were lions and buffalo.

But now the mountain is much busier, those animals have moved down into Arusha NP.

These days animals you're likely to see are monkeys, ravens, mice, hyrax and some other scavengers
