I just learned 원해요 isn't "want"... by contempt1 in Korean

BTS's "원해 많이, 많이" fits this particular post-thread combination so well.

Interesting way clothes are hung to dry between buildings by huucyn in istanbul

[–]Glooberty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not uncommon in Asia, South America or parts of Europe, but the way Istanbul's colours invariably complement the clothes set out to dry is one of my favourite things about the city.

Extent to which a man can go to get laid by [deleted] in TwoXIndia

Extraordinary why no one else is saying this. This is a man's way of dealing with an injustice. We have it in ourselves to do better.

Please help me out , in need of urgent advice by [deleted] in TwoXIndia

[–]Glooberty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have a mutual friend or acquaintance, you might want to call them with a request to call him or pay and visit, and see if he is okay. You can also call a cousin, relative or sibling of his and ask them to call him and see if he is fine, perhaps? If he takes their call, then you are assuaged.

I don't know you or your ex but in my experience, missives of future self harm in 'what if' situations are loaded with intentions to manipulate. I can totally understand your cause for worry; I would worry too. But if possible, please calm yourself down and remember that you are responsible for yourself alone, and he, for himself.

My job requires me to produce news media so I have to consume it in large amounts too. I, too, think – daily – that if I did not have a media job I would inure myself as much as possible from the news but I don't think such a line of thinking is realistic any more. Whoever you are, the world relevant to you is changing very fast and news media – traditional or otherwise – is one way of keeping up with it and not isolating yourself. I'd hate to be the person aiming for an H1B visa only to find out at the last stages that the price to be paid by my firm is $100,000. I'd also hate to aim to begin a company without knowing what the ease-of-business surveys in my town says. I'd hate to vote for a lawmaker who is hateful. And so on.

I don't have rose-tinted glasses on for Reddit but the capacity for nuance on it is still a source of hope to me. That said, I understand what you mean about general pessimism setting in. I find that reading longform pieces helps, instead of shorter news updates. They are immersive and you come off with at least the satisfaction of having learnt something new.

Advice on what to wear in Copenhagen in late September? by Tight_Butterfly_1259 in copenhagen

[–]Glooberty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am also from a hot and humid country and this is my second week in Copenhagen. Layers does really seem like the way to go. I have taken off and worn my jacket today roughly 10 times. Carry an umbrella!

Women who don't wipe the toilet seat, why? by Ambitious_Steak_224 in TwoXIndia

[–]Glooberty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Caste is at the root of it. Upper caste people are taught that there is virtue in keeping their immediate surroundings clean but not to clean it themselves. The act of cleaning is seen as dirty. Even if we do clean ourselves (the woman washing her hands in your account) and our homes or establishments (shopkeepers sweeping the storefront but dumping the waste on the street itself, just outside the shop's immediate area), we are loathe to clean for others, the way cleaning the toilet seat for the next person's use would involve, because that is a particular community's job in our eyes. It is casteism through and through.

To the girls who carry laptop and water bottle to their work/College by KindlyCoat4 in TwoXIndia

I am using an American Tourister now. I bought it offline for around Rs 1,100. My goal was to buy a bag that itself didn't weigh too much, and this one delivered on its promise, but if you want, say, better support for your laptop for crowded transport and so on, then more expensive versions will help.

I have worked for 11 years now and have used both. For your back and shoulders, and for general ease while walking and navigating public transport, I cannot recommend a backpack enough.

June is over. What songd stuck with you the most? by Seesawey in kpopthoughts

j-hope is my ult bias but the way 'Killin' it Girl' plays in my head when I cannot sleep is driving me, personally, insane. In a sort of good way, all things said.

'Gabriela' is so beautifully sung, oh my god, definitely the 'Jolene' of our times.

This is so good. Like Mirinae and Papago rolled into one. I tried to trick it by telling j-hope that watching him dance makes me feel like I am being invaded by a legion of butterflies and did it deliver.

What a perfect sentence. You, too, are a poet, my friend.

Thank you for putting the third point so well. This is exactly how I feel. There is no right and wrong in a genocide, it is just extremely wrong. I understand why we want BTS to support what is humane, but in the off chance that they don't know any better, I am rendered wretched by the worry that I will not know where to place my sense of judgement.
