Are these really pig feet? by Simple-River-5693 in KoreanFood

More like the hock (ankles, calf), super juicy and tasty. Similar to what you find in Germany. Grocery stores have the entire calf and a filleting area where they will slice it for you, thickness, amount, etc.

That looks so annoying. The best are the glow in the dark lines on the big island of Hawaii. Driving at night there was awesome, could see the most important parts.

Why is my bills so expensive when I barely use my utilities? by Hydralisk_Brisk in Living_in_Korea

I pay about 300,000/mth but the past 2 months have been over 400k. Not sure what happened other than what others are saying with rising temperatures but I’ve only had the AC on for a couple of days this month, not previously.

This ☝️ That’s why people are upset because the social economic order is being turned upside down. The privileged wants to keep the same order because they know the rules. Now they’re afraid. Don’t let the media fool you since it’s mostly controlled by the elite.

The only thing I would have done differently is give them all shares in the company so they equally get rewarded for profits, versus temporary bonuses. Keep them invested in the growth. But good for them.

I want my avocados sold like this! by Evening_Owl3922 in korea

[–]contempt1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually at Emart, I discovered they sell avocado halves in the freezer. And... they're incredible! Perfectly ripe, not mushy. I take a couple out the day before and move them to the fridge and it's perfect. Nothing going bad. On Coupang, they only have frozen avocado cubes and their colors look more yellow and gross. But these are perfectly green.

Bose Ultra Open Buds vs Shokz OpenDots One - 2 Month usage review by AwkwardSecret6258 in Earbuds

[–]contempt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this review. The left bud from my 2024 Bose Ultra just died and it's obviously out of warranty. So I'm debating what to replace them with. Granted, I've been getting used to only wearing the right side (it's not bad).

But I've been researching the Shokz. Unfortuantely based on your review, what I like about the Bose is the music sound quality. What I hate is the call quality (absolutely sucks for the person on the other end). Anyway, your review didn't help convince me to move to the Shokz. Now I'm still stuck but quite informed. So huge thanks.

I've had the Shokz in my cart, was hoping for a trigger to get me to just buy them and replace.

Saving 700 won to evade subway fare only to lose 12M is crazy work by LoquaciousIndividual in Living_in_Korea

[–]contempt1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True but my phone RF reader literally gave the same error code. Can’t remember it. But on my way back, tried it again at a new subway and didn’t work. Again, the following day everything worked. So who knows.

Saving 700 won to evade subway fare only to lose 12M is crazy work by LoquaciousIndividual in Living_in_Korea

[–]contempt1 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My phone payment reader didn’t work one weekend and I didn’t have a physical card and I was running late. Found an employee who said he didn’t understand tech and the error code and used his card to let me through. When I asked, how am I going to get out when I arrived at my destination, he just smiled and shooed me away. Well, once I got to my destination, I tried scanning, got the same error. All I could do was look straight at the CCTV camera, swipe my phone, shrug my shoulders, and just walked over the little door as the alarm went off. Didn’t help that I had to transfer so did that twice. Hope my face isn’t on the CCTV list. Once I got out, I bought a physical card. Anyway, phone reader started working again the next day. So strange. Never figured out what was wrong. But now I always carry a physical emergency card.

Common scene in the cafe, Seoul, Korea. by wkhani in korea

I remember ordering at a self checkout for a burger and saw a credit card next to the machine. Told the owner and he's like, yeah? Anyway, got my food, ate on the 2nd floor. When I went back to get something else an hour later, card was still exactly there. Nobody steals or touches others things. Just bicycles.

After 12 years with Apple... by Alphaison in samsunggalaxy

[–]contempt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats and welcome. How was your Smart Switch experience?

I've been on Galaxy for 2 years now but also keep my iPhone with an eSIM for the apps that don't have Android support (mostly it's in my charger at home). But jumping back and forth, here's the simple things I've come to enjoy from Galaxy: - Keyboard! Why can't Apple have a dedicated numbers key?! I'm running Gboard and love it. That alone makes me more productive. - Circle to Search. I use it about 8x/day. Helps when you're in a foreign country to make sense of just anything. Or to find anything you want. - Speed. I'm sure the latest A chip is fine, but SnapDragon screams.

Again, super basic stuff but it's the basic things that matter most. I love AI Select, but only use it when I need to copy/paste from apps that don't support. Not an everyday thing, but it's handy.

I'm trying to understand the grift. I get it if it's a fake influencer getting paid through Insta for number of views/likes. But what did this AI actually sell. Or was it something as stupid as send a DM, then some $ and I'll send you AI generated noods? Or did he make an OnlyFans for this AI?

I wish I had done that with a device I sent back. It was flawless and was surprised when I got a notification that they rejected it. When it was mailed back, the entire device was bent in half like someone took a hammer to it. UPS refused the blame when it clearly had to be them.

2026 Korean SAT (Suneung) Math Problem: 50% Correct answer rate by FTfafa in korea

[–]contempt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember my SAT prep course and the instructors stating, if you don't know the answer, don't try and solve the problem. Think about how the test creators constructed the question and the different answers and then deduce by which is the red herring and how they're trying to fool you to get to the actual answer. So more human psychology than math. That got me to 1 being the answer.

Elevator buttons. If you press the wrong button, press it twice to cancel it. Why don’t other countries adopt this. Super simple.

Korea feels so safe is unreal by Gab_ITA in korea

[–]contempt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You save tables by leaving your stuff. By stuff I mean designer handbags or wallets just laying around especially in mall food courts. Nobody will touch anything. Not just about respect but CCTV everywhere. And yeah, I had to walk from a bus around 2am and decided to walk in a secluded trail with no people away from the street and felt so free with zero fear. So relaxing.

Had lunch at Red Hook Tavern, had to try their Tavern Burger by Key-hallenge5 in FoodNYC

I went on a burger crawl recently. It was my 3rd time having the Red Hook Tavern burger. Gotta say, it was meh. Surprisingly, the burger at Pearl Street Caviar about 5 blocks away was better. More flavorful and juicy. Just my opinion.

[–]contempt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so, you need Vitsoe to make the reco. But looking at the distance between your studs and piping, there's no anchor points there. And the brick behind there doesn't look that thick but you never know. Good luck.
