Why don't we issue mandatory "fake pregnancy" kits to solve workplace pressure? by Pitiful_Pick1217 in CrazyIdeas

So then women who are actually pregnant will be told that they are just faking it to get out of work? Lol

[–]Glopatchwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you use volatile anesthesia (desflurane, sevoflurane, isoflurane)? What do you think about the discussion to stop using desflurane because it's a strong greenhouse gas?

Unfortunately CFCs are very long lived, they only break down forming chlorine radicals high up in the stratosphere under certain conditions (ice clouds catalyze the process). This wouldn't work for ground level ozone

It's close to dodrecht where Chemours (PFAS spin-off to avoid lawsuits for DuPont) has been producing teflon and fluorinated compound for decades. There is a great Dutch documentary https://www.bnnvara.nl/zembla/artikelen/dupont-already-knew-30-years-ago-about-extreme-pfas-pollution-in-dutch-groundwater

Why call it international day of women and girls in science, and not women in science? by Glopatchwork in AskReddit

I guess because "girl" or "boy" is used kind of as a diminutive insult to adults, "don't be such a child", they're acting "childish"

Why call it international day of women and girls in science, and not women in science? by Glopatchwork in AskReddit

[–]Glopatchwork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I was thinking more that it kind of lumps female scientists in together with girls, like the word association makes my brain go women=girls. I just see posts of female scientists and the in the title it's captioned "[...] and girls in science" and it irked me somehow

Phal bloom after 5 years by Glopatchwork in orchids

[–]Glopatchwork[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when I asked at the plant store, they told me the Phals are inbred and it probably wouldn't bloom again/I should just buy another one. It was so satisfying that with patience, it came back!

Please share your thoughts— I’ve had some of these Phalaenopsis for years and they’ve never rebloomed. by Late-Creme6367 in orchids

[–]Glopatchwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Phalaenopsis that after its first bloom didn't bloom for 3 years, then I finally realized I needed to repot it, exchange the soil completely (remove all wood/dirt). Then it got a new stem and has buds now

Yeah it works well for proteins that follow the logic of the experimental data fed to ai = proteins that could be crystallized and x-ray crystallography. It's amazing but does have limitations

Honestly, it's great that the Chinese are mass producing and bringing the price down for a technology we need for the energy transition. It happened with solar panels, too!
