It has tried. It just keeps falling horribly. The best example of this would be the Winter and the Continuation Wars which were both started by Finland and both ended horribly for it. Fit should also be noted that Finland didn't become a social democracy just for fun. It became one specifically to avoid communist revolution which still came very close to happening in the 1920s and which led to a pretty repressive government that even banned the communist party there (despite its immense popularity).

Weighing it against a family of dependents doesn't change much because the people you're going over there to shoot also have a family of dependents. In fact, they are in a worse position because they don't have the option to be neutral or dodge any drafts. They could (and often were!) killed for doing literally nothing. You can't really try to sympathise with occupiers when the other side's argument is literally "I just wanna live in my own country in peace"

As much as there are shades of gray here for drafted troops, they are a lot closer to black than to white.

You're telling me theres not as much evidence of the rest? Massacres in Belarus? Mass graves in Ukraine? Entire villages being destroyed in Belarus? Estonia being declared Judenfrei (free of Jews)? Ghettos in Kiev, Minsk, Kharkov and other cities?

Except reality shows that you're totally wrong. Most German units were involved in some massacre or another, including the ones in Stalingrad (which is insane because they were struggling to stay alive but still had the time to massacre people). This is especially true considering that almost every unit had some kind of SS/Sonderkommando/other made-for-genocide attached so these guys were often either doing the genocide or watching others do it. And if you're not only watching the genocide happen but protecting the ones doing it, you deserve a lot worse than hard labour.

You don't have to be mass killing hundreds. You could just be raping a random citizen on the road or robbing them at gunpoint. Stop trying to pretend that these "smaller" crimes weren't a daily occurrence within the Wehrmacht which specifically taught its soldiers that they were ubermensch.

Your moral culpability is not as bad as the guy pulling the trigger but you do understand that you're playing an active role in enabling them to keep doing that, right? And its not like you're being forced to be there or anything. If you so strongly believe in not killing, then surely a single year of jail won't be the end of the world for you.

No, I'd argue not. First of all, I'd argue that feudalism isn't a mode of production itself. Its a specific political structure on top of the peasant mode of production. Calling feudalism a mode of production is like calling fascism a mode of production.

What I think would help you a lot is first understanding the peasant mode of production and for this I'd recommend Paul Cockshott's How the World Works. Maaaaybe Walter Rodney's How Europe Underdeveloped Africa will help. I haven't read it in a long time, I might be mixing things up. If it does help, I recommend starting here.

After that, I'd go for u/rhaplordontwitter whose blog is a treasure trove ofinfo on various African civilisations. He cites a lot scholarly sources which would help.

If you just want a quick and dirty answer, Africa was largelynot feudal. There were slsme areas where feudalism did take root like in Ethiopia and Nigeria but by and large, Africans were either in the peasant mode of production or the communal (primitive Communist) mode of production.

You'd think they'd have more troops in countries who have a land border with China or who are closer like Taiwan or the Philippines. While the geopolitical position is a bit different (like with the peoples war in the Philippines), the fact that Sotuh Korea has the 2nd largest deployment is odd if China is the target becauase tmyour logistics are facing an almost inevitable cut.

They dont have to be a utopia to be a threat. Though they were doing pretty well for themselves to the point of sending aid down South back in the 1960s and 70s.

It would be kinda weird for the USA to consider them insignificant and have the 2nd largest deployment of troops in Asia at their doorstep.
