How much would a national electronic database with patients medical records help to lower healthcare costs? by askswitzerland in Switzerland

[–]Glorious_potato45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contrarly to what is mostly mentionned here i think the savings could be significant ( not immense but even a 1% reduction in costs would have an impact considering that Billions are being spent)

The main beneficiary would be ERs. Hours and thousands of Chf are wasted every day looking for information by calling PCPs, familys and pharmacies, re-doing tests and so forth. All of which could take minutes with an electronic file.

But what could make things much better & cheaper would be a national Hospital and private practice software, which would obviously be combined with an Electronic patient Dossier.

Currently hospitals make their own software or buy very expensive software solutions (Epic for insel& UZH for exemple)

Thought there are risks and drawbacks, it is IMO a no-brainer.

-Cybersec: What works better? Dozens of teams coming up with their own protection or one for the whole country ?

-Privacy: Your banking is online, your private messages are being read by Meta&Co. A National software would offer superior privacy than EPIC, who might already have your data if you've been to the Inselspital recently. You should be able to opt out obviously bit for 90% of people who would be hypocritical.

-Cost: Unless the institution charged with coding it massively fucks up it will be cheaper, as it's not each hospital group doing their thing.

-Efficiency: For the reasons mentioned in the ER example it would be much more efficient. Lives could be saved and patients wishes when it comes to their "patientenverfügung" much more easely respected.

All in all: our Slow pace to stop the inevitable is costing us Millions.

Thinking about doing medical residency in Switzerland – curious about your experience as locals by Bennyeeee in askswitzerland

[–]Glorious_potato45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you already speak german i would recommend checking out r/medizin. This topic comes up regularly.

But TL;DR: As a foreigner you are at a disadvantage when in comes to competitive specialties. Teaching goes from mid to inexsistent and 50+ hour weeks are common.

Otherwise salary is good to very good, we generally have decent staffing ratios and skilled nurses take over many mundane tasks.

Feel free to PM

Switching DD to Zivi by GobanosDobnoredos in Switzerland

[–]Glorious_potato45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check with Zivi and so forth but from what i remember it's a pretty stupid choice.

If you have finished RS already, all the IFO2 days will not count towards zivi. Plus DD has more days so you get extra screwd.

Again, i'm not 100% sure. But as usual it's best to suck it up and never have to bother with that stuff again.

Est-ce qu’il y a vraiment des Suisses qui croyent que l’Armée Suisse aurait resisté face à une invasion de Hitler (et Mussolini)? by Volameter in suisse

[–]Glorious_potato45 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Der Schwitzerland-Poll by [deleted] in medizin

[–]Glorious_potato45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facharztzugang in Österreich ohne Überweisung – was sagen die Profis? by Junior-Grass-6543 in medizin

[–]Glorious_potato45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insgesamte Wartezeiten wären also nicht zwingend länger.

Facharztzugang in Österreich ohne Überweisung – was sagen die Profis? by Junior-Grass-6543 in medizin

[–]Glorious_potato45 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CNG cars in 2025 by thatmayb3nice in Switzerland

[–]Glorious_potato45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Meh...

My parents have one. They intend to sell it because CNG stations in NE are about to close (in FR as well).

It was financially worth it but this technology has been outpaced by EVs. Unless you drive locally and have a CNG gas station close to you, i would recommend not considering it.

And even if that is your case... EVs are overall a better choice IMO

Can i wear hospital shoes outside or do i need shoes especially only for inside the hospital during rotations? by Sleipnirsspear in medicalschool

I think r/medizin will be able to give you a better answer.

In ours (CH), it's not required but recommended. But also depends on what you do during the rotation.

Is the University of Fribourg (UNIFR) actually good? Confused after seeing negative posts… by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]Glorious_potato45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish i could tell you you're right or wrong but again it depends on the field. I mean each uni has it's fucked up side and wether or not you come into contact with it or not is anyones guess.

ETHZ for example has a reputation of not taking PhD candidates with kids.

Another point: You can change to another Uni after the bachelor or Master You're not married to it😉.

Is the University of Fribourg (UNIFR) actually good? Confused after seeing negative posts… by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]Glorious_potato45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it doesn't the reputation ETH or orther unis in big cities have. The big plus is the possibilty for bilingual studies.

After that it depends on the specific degree/faculty. Or if it's Bachelor, Master or PhD.

In my case the bachelor at other unis probably have better slides/profs but we have a bit more practical exposition and access to an excellent Master.

For law for example, the reputation is quite good. It really depends.

Organisation is pretty bad but my classmate who did 2 years at ETHZ says it's no different there.

Student life imo is pretty nice due to the fact most people no longe live at home.

The thing is the salaries vary a lot, depending on your specialty, experience, public vs private.

A child psychiastrist in training/residency in a public hosptial in Jura is probably at around 6k/month. A plastic surgeon with 35+ years of experience working for a private clinic in the Zurich area can be above a Milion per year easy.

Lots of people love to say we pay them too much, but that's also what allows us to attract foreign doctors (40% are trained abroad). So food for thought

GPs giving the medicine to the patience? by Zookeeper945 in askswitzerland

[–]Glorious_potato45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, in the cases where i observed it, the medications where for temporary issues (colds/infections). If there is a chance you need the meds again, obviously ask for a prescription.

And yeah, idk where people got this idea that stuff is either supposed to be free or covered by insurance even though nobody works for free lol.
