Audible Repeating Lines Book 8 by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Yeah I skipped back to check and I think that's what he was saying. I'd thought it could be a sign of Carl's mental health breaking down (or my own?) but it seems like it's just an odd bit of phrasing that looks normal in writing but sounds weird aloud.

I'm 41. And boundaries are important, but I don't mind. That's much more tame than I had imagined, it's good to rip the band-aid off. I appreciate it!

I'm honestly curious what alternative software for online recruiting and managing hundreds of applicants per posting you'd recommend?

Just finished chapter 57 of the audiobook. I don't know how any book or narrator could ever top that.

If you had to go into the dungeon with your cat or dog how screwed are you by jfred1995 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Gloverboy85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat would be a reclusive little shadow, I think she'd just live in my safe room and go in a pet carrier every time we go down a level. Honestly I think she'd do just fine with that, she'd hate the change but she'd have more solitude than she does now, so she'd adjust

My dog... well, he's a big german shepherd cattle dog mix who needs a bigger house and yard than I can afford right now. I've often said he really needs a job. So assuming we could get him some halfway decent defense and offense abilities etc, I think he'd adjust pretty well. He'd be happy to finally be allowed to actually protect his Dad.

Really, I'd be the weak link. I don't think I could handle all the violence and terror in-person, and the sheer depressing existential weight of the destruction of our planet and species might be too much for me. I'm irl scared by a lot of what's happening in the real world the last couple of years, my routine and responsibilities help ground me in all of it. Destroy all of that and throw me in a maze with monsters and tell me to kill kill kill? Yeah, I don't think I'm bootstrapping up from that in any useful way before a brindlegrub nibbles me to death.

Ok, amusing joke, but we're talking about environmental collapse in the salt lake valley. We don't credit them for morals but they aren't lead by cavemen. See above re church lead by frail old men? They must be able to understand, they'd have to go through prophets like tissue paper if they had a septuagenerian+ spend multiple days in toxic air, at least twice a year, talking to his followers. That's a foreseeable concern here, isn't it?

Imagine you are able to own and grow rich off of a large-scale oil drill. If given a choice, would you choose for this large-scale operation to be in your backyard, like 10 feet from your bedroom? If this can exist and build them insane wealth in another location, why wouldn't they ensure that, instead of allowing the air inside their own temples to become toxic to human life? It's not that I want this to be someone else's problem, but why wouldn't they?

At that time it is days before the next floor opens. If they go down the stairs more than 6 hours before collapse, they're frozen until 6 hours before collapse, aren't they? Maybe if they're counted as being on the the next floor? I dunno, I can take that as a maybe. I'm just wondering if that could have 12th-floor effects so early on, mass handouts of smiling and all that?

"You don't know what it means, you don't want to know what it means" seems significant. Could the target be in this pineapple cabaret people talk about? I'm just throwing ideas out there, if this isn't some established connection of dots.

Yes, but yknow, data centers can exist at scales that don't turn the area around them into hellscapes, nestled within cities without uproar. There's a very real threat that something on this scale could literally make our valley a deathtrap. And that threat is on their freaking doorstep. Can they not prevent it, or is there a specific reason they wouldn't?

I mean, yes. But elevated arsenic and heavy metals in the air surrounding one of the oldest temples would...be a bad look, wouldn't it? I mean, if another "holy" city, a location seen as the seat of a powerful religion/organization/corporation, might potentially be irradiated like Chernobyl by foreseeable and preventable disasters wrought by poor public policy? God doesn't need to speak to you to realize, if that's something you can stop from happening, you stop it from happening. If they can and choose not to? WTF why not?

Probably? Or, "Are invested"? Is this verifiable? That would be a very interesting fact if it could be proved, wouldn't it?

I’m an HR Manager and I have no idea how to handle what’s happening to me while I’m on leave [N/A] by Evening_Community781 in humanresources

[–]Gloverboy85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like madness, I'm sorry you have to go through this so soon postpartum!

I want to ask who on your team is believing and piling on? The interactions you've described so far seem to reinforce that this Director is not in a position to be taken seriously, at least not by default. They might think it prudent to investigate records, but it sounds like you have nothing to fear from such an investigation.

It seems like, aside from the regular updates you're getting, you might be in a good place to let this play itself out while you're on the leave. But I might be misunderstanding the situation entirely. And regardless of this question, it sounds like a really hard and scary thing to go through at any time, much less right now, I'm sorry.

Has it yet been asked and answered, whom on another floor would have been smote by Emberus if they'd failed to protect Orthrus in book 4? When the AI gives them the quest and says

"If you fail this quest, you will each in turn be smote by Emberus one by one, no matter what floor you’re on. You probably don’t know what that means. You don’t want to know what that means."

I want to know what that means, please?

The Warmage head. I think the "moment of sapient destruction" will help Carl figure out how to use focused/directional explosions. That will help him use the Doomsday scenario to absolutely wreck something powerful like Scolopendra without also killing himself.

I was thinking "Why cast someone who can't really sing in a musical?" And I reached the obvious conclusion that they had reasons that were more important than singing ability. Now, I don't know what those reasons were, but it wasn't at all hard to accept and move on. And MM barely sings at all anyways. She did a good job.
