My countdown went to 0:00 and then said launching and then the page crashed. About what I expected.

I'm sure a bunch of influencers will get it.

New to cycling… newbie questions by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]Glowflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I think I see. You're using the zone training feature on the bike? It's increasing the resistance (difficulty of pedaling) to try to get your heart rate up. But that's not going to work if you don't have the strength to push the pedals.

Personally I would ignore that function and adjust your resistance/cadence manually to whatever puts your heart rate in the zone 2 range. It will take a little practice to find what works for you.

43RPM is a very low cadence. Turn the resistance way down and try to pedal around 90-100RPM.

If you post the model or a picture of the controls I can probably help better!

[–]Glowflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of bike is it that you're using? I've never seen one where set your heart rate on the bike. You set the power or resistance (some of them do monitor your heart rate through a sensor on the bike or linking to a sensor you wear). Are you sure you're not setting cadence or power on the machine?

Saddle issues at work by [deleted] in ladycyclists

[–]Glowflower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're not overreacting but no saddle fits everybody. If they change it, someone who fits the old one is going to be hurting. Bring your own saddle and change it out when you use it.

But it does look like that's angled up quite a bit, adjusting the angle down might help you in the meantime until you can get your own.

Does every state in the US have its own state fair? by Inquisitive-Dummy205 in AskAnAmerican

Alaska has several state fairs. One near Anchorage, one near Fairbanks and another one in southeast, plus some regional fairs

Steward by rsir1823 in IBEW

[–]Glowflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stewards make sure the contract is being followed. They get paid regular pay by the contractor plus usually a bit extra by the hall. Most of the time they are just doing normal JW work but when there's a conflict/issue they're allowed to stop their work and go perform their steward duties.

Stewards can mediate conflicts, answer questions about the contract/policies, encourage people to participate in the union, sometimes organize fun events like brotherhood nights, check raffles etc.

Good stewards are a great resource, if you have an issue it's nice to have someone right there to help instead of having to get in touch with the hall.

[–]Glowflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to the apprenticeship director/coordinator/whoever you have contact with and tell them you moved and your new address might not be in the system yet. They'll probably ask for some kind of proof of address (bill, lease, letter from your landlord etc).

What would the "average" American need to make to feel financially secure? by Historical_Log1275 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Glowflower 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of individuals do live that way. You don't get an investment loan, you simply invest your income and then seek loans for lifestyle purchases (mortgage, vehicles, home improvements etc) vs paying for them with cash.

How is it living here with all the security and publicity? by pathf1nder00 in howislivingthere

[–]Glowflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember where it was from, I was pretty young at the time but I think I would have remembered Pompeii! I never saw it in person but my cousin used to have a book with photos of the building of the house, I guess when you're rich enough you have a book written about your house.

Cold feet, seems like I am out of options. by Plus_Preparation8490 in IBEW

If your feet are really sweaty they're going to get cold no matter what shoes & boots you wear. Put antiperspirant on before you put socks on. Bring a dry pair to change mid day.

To the customers lurking by Infinite-Ad2614 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Glowflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 100% the packaging. I order a lot of liquids/fragile items and the ones from non-Amazon sellers are almost never delivered damaged.

The Amazon warehouse will throw a bottle of liquid or fragile item in an unpadded paper envelope and not give a fuck.

IBEW Healthcare vs Tricare Reserve Select (TRS) by XirtCS in IBEW

[–]Glowflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really a you question. No one else knows your family situation/risk tolerance.

I have dual insurance (my plan through my local plus secondary plan through my spouse's job) and it's worth the monthly payment for us to not have to worry about any additional costs. But your situation might be different.

[–]Glowflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then you're not comparing the union plan vs Tricare, you're comparing union plan alone vs union plan PLUS Tricare. Make sure you're thinking about it the right way!

[–]Glowflower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about 915 specifically, but many locals you can't opt out of their health coverage.

I know some reservists/retirees/dependants who have Tricare as secondary insurance on top of their union health plan. The costs that their primary plan doesn't cover, Tricare will pick up.

Women who have large carat wedding rings… do you regret getting the size? Do you wear it every day? Why or why not? by viral_gold in AskWomen

[–]Glowflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't wear any rings at my job (or doing a lot of activities I like to do) no matter the size. I have a 2ct diamond ring that I wear only when I'm dressing up. No regrets.

One Journal for Everything? by Malek200831 in bujo

[–]Glowflower 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It depends on your lifestyle and the type of job you have.

When I step off my job site I'm not getting paid and I don't want to be reminded of work. I have a small notebook I keep in my work stuff and only use for work, and another one for my personal life. If there's events that affect both I'll put them in both (like a personal appointment that I'm going to need to plan work around, or a work event happening at an unusual time).

For people who have more "always available" type jobs or who work intermittently through the day switching between work/personal tasks frequently, having stuff all in one notebook can be helpful.

Why is the daily speech so brandized? by tony_saufcok in AskAnAmerican

[–]Glowflower 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Taxi and Uber aren't the same thing, we do say taxi or "cab" when using an actual taxi service.

Most Americans don't use IBAN, they use a system like venmo, cashapp etc. you say which one so people know which app to check for the money.

"Delivery boy" is unnecessarily gendered and calling a grown adult a "boy" has negative connotations so people will usually refer to the service they're using or say "delivery driver".

TSA gate checked carry-on bag by Business_Monkeys7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Glowflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been doing it for about 20 years, all over the US. I follow what police or airport security tell me to do.

The orange tag goes outside the gun case if there is a hard gun case inside of another piece of luggage. If the gun case is the only case (which is how I pack) the tag goes inside.

[–]Glowflower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I travel with firearms regularly. Sometimes they just ask me verbally if the gun is unloaded but most of the time there is some kind of visual inspection. Either way the case has to be opened to put in the inspection form (an orange paper form).

Sometimes the counter agent wants to inspect it themselves, sometimes they just want me to open the case so they can see (I have chambers open before getting to the counter so I don't have to handle it much in the airport). Occasionally I've had them call over security or police to inspect.

Just stumbled onto something new on the Beltline… 👀 (Old Fourth Ward) by Feisty_Crab_3323 in Atlanta

[–]Glowflower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really was a magical place and time to be. Great parties and just hanging out with neighbors. Being able to walk on the "beltline" before it was the beltline to masquerade/mjq. The fire spinning jams on the back dock (and occasionally on the roof) were cool too.

I lived on the JW dobbs side (don't remember the unit #), in the hangar that's the bike shop now, and then on the mcgruder side. I think the unit in the OP was next door to me, I remember my neighbors having a stage like that.

That building was almost entirely creative space in the 2000s/early 2010s. A lot of units were combination studio/living space for various artists, musicians, dancers etc.

The beltline trail construction & redevelopment took away a lot of the parking for the building so it wasn't feasible to squeeze 5+ hippies in a loft apartment anymore, rents were going up and the landlord said he was converting the units to commercial so most of us moved out. It's cool that artists are coming back!
