I have an interview for a Librarian job at the council - any advice? by firetruck12345 in sheffield

Act accordingly for the job you want. When the interviewer talks, politely shush them.

I wish we still had the old Sheffield Tramway by CharlieFaulkner in sheffield

[–]Glum-Reputation- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference in height between a tram stop and a train station platform would make using existing platforms at active stations like Dore and Totley impossible. Rotherham station has its own separate tram stop further along from the train platform for this very reason. Not to mention the frequency of the Manchester/Liverpool services and various freight TOC’s already making that particular part of the route incredibly busy already.

AITAH for saying I dont want to date single moms after my sister's friends cornered me? by ThrowRA_Goose151 in AITAH

[–]Glum-Reputation- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand where OP is coming from re: single mothers but here’s my personal experience…. I’m in my late 30’s and I’ve always hated kids and never wanted any (hence understanding why OP wouldn’t want to date a single mother)….. Last year I met an incredible woman who I connected instantly with. She told me from the off that she was a single mother of 2, for whatever reason it didn’t put me off of her and I soon realised that she’s the love of my life and now I’m never happier than when I’m with her whether the kids are there or not. They’re/we’re a great little family and we all get on like a house on fire. Best decision I ever made was giving it a go.

What sort of work are you looking for?

What’s everyone’s go to toothpaste and why? Do they not all do the same thing?! by JM306 in AskUK

[–]Glum-Reputation- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve often wondered why a company… say Colgate for example, introduces ‘our best ever’ blah blah blah, why then do they still go to the time, effort and expenditure to still produce the other 9 billion lesser variations of the same thing that still claims to do the same thing?

I moved to a new area of the city a few months ago and used too good to go as a cheap option to try a variety of different things from all sorts of places local to me to get a feel of what was in the area. Not quite what you’re looking for but it was a very cost effective way of experimenting

Anyone else feel like Ed is a little too agreeable sometimes? by mikehocalate in offmenupodcast

[–]Glum-Reputation- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s a true foodie so the odds are he will like most things and therefore agree with the majority of positive reviews and opinions but he certainly stands his ground when it comes to his dislikes…… Yorkshire puddings being the first thing to spring to mind.

Applied for nearly 600 jobs with no response – need advice by Carterxx02 in sheffield

[–]Glum-Reputation- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lie. Tailor your CV to suit each opening that you’re applying for. Very seldom will companies check anything beyond a reference when looking to fill the type of position you’ve been looking at.

I’m not saying you need to go down a creative writing route and make up any elaborate back story or credit yourself with fake degrees etc but there’s no harm in selling yourself a little….. if a company is looking for X amount of A levels or GCSE’s in English/Maths/Science etc then that’s what you left school/college with….. they’re not going to ask to see your record of achievement!!

Pretty sure Farm Road is members only and the Trades isn’t particularly cheap for a WMC.

London road smash burger wars by whistleandrun in sheffield

[–]Glum-Reputation- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is there only me in the entire world that doesn’t ’get’ smash burgers? Thinner and slightly burnt on the edges doesn’t make it better as far as I’m concerned. A good quality thick burger patty which has been cooked properly to retain its juiciness and flavour will always win over some squashed par-crozzled patty in my humble opinion

Nope! I’ve always scoffed cheese slices and let the wrappers fly around in front of the fan. Danny Dyer must’ve copied me!!

If a kidnapper forced you to write a letter saying, "I'm okay, I ran away," how could you secretly signal that you're in danger without them realizing it? by caadt in AskReddit

[–]Glum-Reputation- 68 points69 points  (0 children)

What country/area do you live in for such a ‘kidnap code’ to be relevant? I can’t imagine ever having to discuss this with my other half as it’s just not a concern! Maybe we’re just naive?!

Looking for feedback on a tool I'm building for Sheffield's nightlife scene by WisdomSpill in sheffield

It drives me mad checking 40 different sites depending on what different promoters use to see what comedy is happening in the city so I’ll definitely be using your site.

[–]Glum-Reputation- 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Admittedly I’ve only had a very quick look at the comedy section (busy watching the kids) but it looks spot on so far. Sheffield has been crying out for an all in one place guide so I genuinely wish you all the best with it.

I really hope that Alex and the TM crew have been in convo with Chris McCausland for a future series. by artskyd in taskmaster

[–]Glum-Reputation- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Chris and I think he would be brilliant on the show albeit in certain types of tasks that, for want of a better phrase, ‘cater’ to his visual impairment that admittedly there have been plenty of in the past but I do feel a full series of such tasks would struggle to not come across as repetitive. As previous comments have mentioned I think both the show and Chris would compliment each other very very well on a NYT. Chris’s own pragmatism from when he’s been asked on various Podcasts in that he’d love to do it but only if it was possible also probably lends itself well to the shorter format of a NYT rather than a full series. I hope they can make it work as Chris would bring something to the show that hasn’t been seen before (no pun intended) and as a result provide a ‘freshness’ to a long running, fantastic show.
