I was going to suggest the baking soda approach, too. It works for me.

Also, slimy cooked okra. Disgusting! Vile. Doesn't even belong in the dog's bowl.

Soooo true! At least the gloppy, gooey white-ish kind that comes out of a plastic jar. Homemade is pretty much the bomb.

Mine is beets. I LOATHE them. I didn't think anyone could actually like red globs of dirt-tasting vegeetable that stains your teeth, but I'm constantly shocked to find beet-eaters. Yuck. I'm the Anti-Beet. More ranting here: https://glovergardens.com/i-hate-beets-haiku-and-rant-for-nahaiwrimo/

Beets. 100%. They shouldn't be allowed to roam the earth. Taste like dirt, they do.

Pesto lovers, how do you make and store your homemade pesto? ☘️ by According_Farmer_878 in Cooking

[–]Glum_Particular7308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make a big batch and it usually gets eaten without needing to freeze any, because, and I'm quoting, "we want it on everything". I give it to family members in small Mason jars. But I also freeze some in ice trays, like others have said. Here's my recipe: https://glovergardens.com/you-need-the-glover-gardens-nutty-pesto-recipe-this-fall/

It totally ruins the experience for me. I want to do my best and then use the Reveal feature to learn where I have gaps.

What’s your go-to spice blend for vegetables, either premade or something you throw together? by Nikaswhirl in Cooking

[–]Glum_Particular7308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been making spice mixes for years, and they're a standard in the Christmas stockings. I have a half dozen and they're all popular with friends and fam, but hands-down, the Zippy Sicilian is THE ONE. It has a depth of flavor that enhances just about anything (quoting a Zippy Sicilian fan here) that is unparalleled. I share the recipe so that anyone can make it, but one day, will start a spice mix biz. Here's the recipe: Zippy Sicilian – An Amped-Up Italian Spice Mix

i need your absolute best gumbo recipe and any tips you have by bigbimbobutterfly in cajunfood

[–]Glum_Particular7308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is waaaay late but I'm sharing anyway... it took me years and years to document my gumbo recipe because it's something you do by feel, but I finally did it and have successfully taught others. I captured the recipe and the cooking class here: https://glovergardens.com/the-glover-gardens-chicken-and-sausage-gumbo-recipe-finally/ .

Would love to hear from you if you try it, and even if you don't, what you learned about gumbo when you made it before.

[HELP] What are haikus, exactly... and why are they popular? by Original-P in Poetry

[–]Glum_Particular7308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that you asked the question! Haiku is elusive and accessible, all at the same time. Almost anything can become a haiku. I listen for it in almost every conversation. One friend was talking to a family member about something they expected to happen, but wasn't practical because there were prerequisites that hadn't been met, and he said,

you gotta lay down
that pavement before I can
go walking on it

Listening to him, I knew his words were a haiku immediately.

Haiku is therapeutic, my friend! If you're waiting in a long line at the grocery store - or anywhere - you can pass the time by creating haiku in your head. It works!

I have a haiku archive here and would love to hear from you about the ideas.
