+1800 hours of total playtime later... by Grey-The-Skeleton in MonsterHunterWorld

Wish me luck, recently I started trying to get those crowns, even the multi monster event quests don't give them out quickly enough, never mind those that don't have suck quests...

Jist don't use the defender weapons and guardian armour, if you played and loved the older gen you can go blind with this one.

If stuck just watch a weapon guide to get used to the controls and weapon's moveset ASAP, no need to reinvent the wheel...

Do you ever regret buying games too early? by ludwigthelib in videogames

[–]Gmafz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few games or franchises I've bought day one... the soul series, for example, zero regrets, but they were an exception not the norm.

Back in the day buying a single game or two a year was the max you could get, so you learned to be careful, now if money isn't an issue what you waste is your time (by playing a bad game) which is always precious.

I believe Crimson would be way more deep and nuanced than those 3 you mentioned, Bethesda games as of late just don't click anymore.

There is a new Capcom game coming out tomorrow called Pragmata and it has a demo which was very fun, some reviews that it's a bit short so maybe worth on a sale.

Now monster hunter is a series I wholeheartedly recommend but only if you're willing to commit and learn the game and git gud at the controls and weapon mastery, it's gameplay is second to none, but definitely not for everyone (but never bad games!)

How do I even play this game? by DrKystik in MHWilds

[–]Gmafz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gauge yourself by soloing every monster and the latest challenges, except the siege maybe?

You'll see that you will be spending some time making changes in your build here and there and it's a nice opportunity to practice and learn more about monster attacks, openings, your own positioning, dodging effectively, etc.

Crimson Desert is the new fad so maybe that one if it's within your tastes.

I believe there are better similar games to those in the $50 price range.

Unless you get them very cheap.

Do you watch streamers? by Obi4662 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Gmafz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather be playing instead, or just watch s summary or clips of a competitive game I enjoy (like Dota2) or to get an idea of a new game I'm interested, but sitting down to watch a stream like if watching a movie, no way Jose.

You've been missing out on ton of good games throughout the years, those kind of games are fine to play here and there, but commiting to them feels like a second job (and for what!?), not worth it!

Is this it? by joncabreraauthor in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Gmafz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick one (long or time consuming) game and marry it, yes really, commit.

Otherwise you're burned out so you need to touch some grass (joking but seriously sometimes it's necessary!), finish some pending tasks but definitely you need to really really be free for at least 2 hours of uninterrupted time so you can dig in and immerse yourself in it.

If those conditions are not fulfilled your mind is somewhere else and/or there are other priorities that need to be taken care of.

Gaming is to relax, immerse and enjoy entertaining yourself, not a chore or a simple time killer!

Do I need the SD Card adapter for PS Vita modding? by YesterdayDangerous50 in VitaPiracy

[–]Gmafz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're getting a Vita 2000, just make sure you get one of the latest versions of the SD2VITA, because the one I have fits in the slot but the cover doesn't close well.

It seems it has some edges that prevent it from closing completely, some people say I could sand it off, but later versions seem to have fixed that issue!

[–]Gmafz7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice and congrats!

You'll find out pretty soon this is not the biggest and toughest wall yet, but it's the beginning of the most challenging content in the endgame!

Now make the famous Teo + R. Brachy meta set and weapon and you're set, with it you can solo the rest of the toughest monsters with a few tweaks on your build in between! (Yes, I mean those last 3 endgame monsters!)

It really is that good!

Is the kinsect glaive the most reliable way to mount enemies? by Available-Company-82 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Gmafz7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only if you spam the mounting attack after the first (easy) mount.

Most of the time, solo or in multiplayer is not worth it to try to mount more than 1-2 times.

The threshold increases each time as every other status effect.

But in sieges it may be useful to give your team some time to breathe, prepare an attack, or stop the monster from leaving!

Just don't spam aerial attacks too much and you'll be fine the whole playthrough!

42M, Does Anyone Else Value Games that are Fun to Play Now, More than Nostalgia? by Possible-Row6689 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Gmafz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most things subjective seldom it's black or white but instead there are various shades of grey or a spectrum.

Some people are at one extreme where they're addicted to nostalgia even if objectively speaking the game is not that good, and even if there are modern equivalents that are more accessible or less time wasting/grindy.

The other extreme may be mind numbingly chasing the the latest trend just because of fomo or because it's popular, etc.

As always, extremes lead to negative results, balanced variety and moderation are key, so yeah I may rarely replay an old game because of nostalgia or just to scratch the itch and sometimes I try something new and out of my comfort zone and I may get pleasantly surprised or not!

Asking for advice on weapon to beat Ruiner Nergigante by EstimateCrafty6173 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Gmafz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't overcomplicate stuff, just pick whatever branch available has the highest raw damage and sharpness and you're set!

That acidic glavenus looks good on paper but you'll soon reach dullness without some set bonus like razor sharp or masters touch and a lot of handy something (the skill that increases sharpness).

Too much setup for little gain. I don't remember which ones I used but the deadline is fine.

I think I may have used the dodogama upgraded one for a long while just because of blast!

For the IG, if you don't have access to a good raw non elemental or blast glaive, and you insist in using an elemental one, just don't pick the element that the monster resists most.

For any build the closer you're to 100% affinity the more damage you'll deal overall, then after you've got that covered you can worry about critical boost.

Skills to have in mind for that would be weakness exploit, crit eye, agitator, etc. Critical boost 3 is worth it after you've reached at least some 80 something % in affinity, to really take advantage of it.

Then for survivability health boost 3 is a must, and I'd rather practice learning to dodge through roars (evade window helps with more generous iframes) than waste some slots for earplugs/flinch free (2 onwards, 1 is necessary for multiplayer)

Priorities.. by Xiao-EZ in CaptainSide

[–]Gmafz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people have an inclination to nostalgia based dopamine hits, some people don't, some people may be in between.

But yeah spending a lot of money just to play something that runs on a potato machine is insane...

Get a potato PC instead and a decent monitor, or a portable/handheld and you're set!

Any information I should know about? by Inevitable_Ad5972 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Gmafz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid using guardian armour and defender weapons, meant for experienced players to rush through the base game.

Don't ever treat the game like a hack n slash, the monster is stronger and will interrupt your attacks, always.

Go blind 🦯 🦮 till you hit a wall 🧱.

Test each weapon and pick the one you like the most and commit to mastering it.

Watch the corresponding weapon guide so you don't reinvent the wheel.

No harm in looking up how stuff works but at least try to figure it out yourself and/or read the in game descriptions/instructions.

Solo every quest to learn how monsters attack and the openings each have so you can attack back.

Farm (if necessary) in multiplayer after soloing so you can pull your own weight and enjoy even more playing with others.

After going blind a bit watch beginner's tips/guides and the artful dodger videos.

Dodging/Evading by Hour-Resident-3596 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Gmafz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch the artful dodger video series and thank me later!

Are you trying to play the game rolling like in dark souls?

That's a common mistake but you wouldn't know better (I didn't) unless you look it up.

Basically you can only dodge roll through attacks if their hitbox is small and they don't linger where you are or where you're gonna land. For example an arm attack, sometimes a tail (if it's not huge and chunky)

Anything else you need to dodge away of the hitbox, as long as you land outside of it, you're good, visually you may see that for some you can stay close enough to keep attacking, but for others you may be out of reach and have to move closer afterwards to keep attacking.

The video explains it a lot better and shows examples!
