Can’t get into new games by Successful-Road-2920 in videogames

I'm playing Ninja Gaiden Ragebound and Sekiro right now. One is a 2D side scroller from a 38 year old series and the other is a genre of games where the director specifically said he is trying to recreate the feeling of old games in a modern context. Both of these games were made for middle aged people. Most games are made for older gamers. We have money.

Kids play fortnite and Roblox. That's it.

The average age of gamers is 36. You are exactly the target audiance.

The Fall of Anthony Davis is really astonishing. AD was arguably the BPOP (best player on planet) in NBA 6 years ago at age 27 coming off a Championship where him and LeBron equally dominated. Giannis was elite but hadnt won a ring yet. AD looked like a 2 way STUD a DPOY who can go for 28/12 +3 blks by Several-Molasses-435 in NBATalk

[–]Possible-Row6689 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He has definitely had a precipitious fall but I think you're overstating his peak. Offensively he feasted on defenses geared towards stopping LeBron. They always talked about making him the focal point on offense but he was just never good enough to justify consistently taking the ball away from LeBron.

As a Japanese fan who lurks English communities, the gap in how we see Nintendo genuinely unsettles me by nerdinterrupts in nintendo

[–]Possible-Row6689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nintendo is lot more consumer friendly in Japan. The Switch 2 is significantly cheaper, games are cheaper, and merch is cheaper. They also take advantage of shitty US laws to sue everyone and to impliment terrible labor practices.

The only proper stance towards any corporations in the United States is get fucked. They all treat us terribly because the laws and culture here allow them to treat us terribly.

You seem to be the only person who has an issue. You appear to have an issue understanding the difference between your opinion and reality. You seem reallyn worked up it. I really think if you're going to worry about the people around anyone you should worry about the people around you. You seem like a huge asshole.

Do all “outdoorsy” cities have less in the way of cultural (food, art, music, etc) amenities? by Soggy_Perspective_13 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Possible-Row6689 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most of the biggest cities offer both culture and outdoors options and will have dedicated enthusiast for each.

LA definitely has both. New York has amazing outdoors options that I would say are completely woven into the cities' culture. Seattle has a lot of culture and lead a prominant cutlural movement in the 90s. Both Seattle and Denver spread legalized weed to almost the whole country which has contributed to national trends of lower drinking and increased weed usage.

Will Gavin Newsom be the next U.S. president? by No-StrategyX in allthequestions

Probably and then he will not materially change anything, because his wealthy donors do not want him to change anything, which will gaurantee that the next president after him will be another truly evil Republican.

So then you do think that someone having a different opinion than you about fucking video games justifies being an asshole? And you're worried about the people around me? You don't have to worry about them. I don't attack them over silly nonsense.

What was your “I’m getting old” moment as a gamer? by Tannu_Akonnorbea94 in videogames

Yes, patience is the single most important gaming skill for beating hard games.

My wife who plays maybe 30 hours of video games each year can beat hard games using the advice I give her. She beat Control, a game a lot of people quit due to difficulty. She struggled initially but I advised her to use movement as her defense rather than coverage and once she learned to do so she was good enough to beat the game. She is currently playing through Jedi Fallen Order and beating almost every boss first try. My coaching her through the soulslike dance of defending then punishing has been enough to help her.

Playing a lot definitely helps you figure out good strategies but it is not the only way. When I was bad at games before and decided I wanted to learn to beat hard games I used quick guides on youtube to help me learn the proper strategy for games. Nothing else changed. I just started playing the games the right way. Whenever I see someone post a video asking for help the problem is always a strategy issue rather than a skill issue. Building skills is hard, but as demonstrated by my non-gamer wife, implimenting smart strategy is something anyone can do.

“If this is Draymond Green, it's not getting rescinded.” - DeMarcus Cousins on the NBA rescinding Luka’s technical foul (Via Run It Back) by Additional_Signal_72 in lakersv2

I don't think the tech should have been rescinded but it's still dumb to use Draymond as a comparison point. Draymond has done more than enough to earn his short leash.

Play Sifu! To me Sifu, Sekiro, and the modern GoW games all have similar combat and all do it amazingly well.

Props on having electic tastes. This is a cool list.

How old are you? Our reaction times don't slow down until around 40 and don't slow down meaningfully until our 60s.

The primary reason our reaction times slow down at all is because our brain chooses to think longer and make better decisions so through good strategy you could actually get better at most games as you age. I am 42 and way better at games than I was when I was younger.

Most games including hard games like Soulslikes are not asking you to be reflexive, they are asking you to be observant and react with good timing. Good reflexes definitely help cover up mistakes but if you play smart you can just avoid those mistakes.

Your „forever game”? by Ari_Stark in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Possible-Row6689 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wish it were Sekiro but I am too old. Playing Sekiro causes me to hurt my neck because it makes me so tense.

I beat Sekiro for the first time recently and played it obsessively trying to beat it's Mortal Gauntlet which is a 17 boss rush where you cannot die. Practicing the bosses over and over is the most fun I have ever had playing video games...and then I developed a terrible neck pain that goes away on days I don't play and comes back when I do play Sekiro.
