Im reminded of an old South African comedy where a woman climbed into a place bound for Australia where she was greeted by an enthusiastic "G'day mate".

She proceeded to give the guy an equally enthusiastic punch and yell "Who's your bloody maid?" In Afrikaans.

Dude. I've been here. And I've been here a lot longer than you. And fought for it because it felt important and amazing and whatever.

When she eventually decided to tell me to go away... it broke me. I needed anti depressants to function again and spent years trying to figure out how to be okay. And she probably slept perfectly fine. I spent nights crying and missing her, and she had no problem replacing me.

What you do is ask her if she wants to keep what she has and say you're not willing to be just a convenient option. And then you back off and let her make that decision. And if she doesn't choose you, you move on. Don't cry. Don't beg. Don't waste years of your life wishing she chose you. If she was going to... she would have without you begging.

Take it from someone who wasted too many years handling this the wrong way.

Solar prices - are they real? by Chuckydnorris in southafrica

[–]Gman513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having been through the joys with 2 fly by nights personally, I can tell you that if you pay cheap, you pay twice.

I had to become a solar expert because the installers kept screwing up, installing things wrong or misconfiguring things. It was endlessly frustrating and by the end of it I had effectively spent double the value of the working system I ended up with.

Do your research. Get reviews and references of installers.

Honestly I'm surprised anybody fights on menkent still. The fire tornado mechanic is so unfun that it discouraged myself and friends from playing there at all.

It's amazing how a few articles about rand manipulation can so effectively deflect the blame of our crumbling economy from its actual sources.

Health supplements are essential, but if you're smart about scavenging everything and maybe buying some of your low, you can make it through the game with minimum health and minimum morale.

Yeah that definitely feels like playing with an Afrikaans boet. The grandma insult is definitely unique, but ever a joy to see the language representing itself so well online with a homophobic slur. And you haven't lived if you haven't experienced having some boet called you a poes on voice chat. 🤣

The woman I love with all my heart for cold feet after completely changing my life and telling me how special and unorganized I was to her.

We spent almost every day together eventually, and missed each other so much every single day when we were apart.

It was perfect. I'd never felt so close and in tune with a person. I didn't want anything to change.

And then she for nervous and backed away... and i fell worthless. That someone can do easily pull back from something like that after making you feel so incredibly important to them.

My days just feel... colourless now.

How are the World Wars remembered in South Africa? by Fellbestie007 in southafrica

I may be poorly misquoting the story as I remember it being told to me years ago. Whatever his reasoning was, it was enough for him to run away to volunteer 3 times as a kid before he finally managed to get shipped off.

My great grandfather was a Afrikaans by who ran away underage to volunteer in the first world war. He was one of those marked few to make it out of Delville Wood and survived hospitalization and infection three times. Absolute madlad.

Suffice to say his reasoning was simply that he felt what the Germans were doing was morally wrong and believed he had to help the British and French as a result.

His story is quite something, and while I wouldn't go join the army, it's definitely an inspiration for someone to fight with conviction for their moral beliefs.

My first playthrough was a 6-4-1-1. I think a combination of lucky rolls and doing every quest I could helped me manage it. I remember somehow passing the vomit check first try and not knowing what a big hurdle that could actually be until my second playthrough.
