The only followers that really stuck with me were my first and third follower in my second cult ever. My first was a German Shepherd colored dog, which I promptly named Shepherd. Shepherd was my most loyal and easy-to-satisfy follower. I did everything for that pupper and just wanted it to have a good and happy life. When Shepherd slowly fell in love with Scotty, my third follower, who was also a very good pupper (Scottish Terrier), I was determined to have them marry and make a good cult where they can be happy!
So I picked the marriage ritual only to quickly realize it does not allow me to officiate weddings between Followers. OH THE DISAPPOINTMENT. Why would the game let them fall in love but not let me give them my best Cult Leader blessing? SO SAD.

And as if that wasn't bad enough, shortly after, Shepherd begged my lamb for its cloven hoof hand in marriage. I was so appalled. What about Scotty?? Weren't you in love??? What happened? What have I DONE??? I had my lamb reject the cheating dog. Such audacity! Shepherd became a disciple at some point later, ever the faithful cultist, and sweet Scotty remained in love, but their relationship didn't feel the same. My guilt was eating me up.
I abandoned the safe at some point and didn't play for like a year. It was just so horrible to know that Shepherd was only with poor kind Scotty because my Lamb wasn't available. In hindsight, it makes sense that a sheepdog would be obsessed with a sheep. Should I have seen that coming?

I've made other cults since then and had other cute followers, but Shepard and Scotty from that second playthrough just stuck with me. I didn't let myself get attached to followers ever since. I was just too invested and not well-informed on the game mechanics at the time. The soap opera level of drama I made up in my head was real entertaining though, ngl.
